its very disappointing we wont ever get a goodbye show. feels like they have been a part of our lives for so long you always imagine the ending will be different.
I worked in radio in Producing & On Air for 25 years You never get a "good bye" show, it happens very rarely as most times you're fired, not leaving on "mutually agreed terms". Stations are always afraid you're going to say something that may put their license in jeopardy or that you'll bad mouth the station.
Hardy is the only I can see stepping in and keeping that balance of entertainment and sports talk that I like about the show while having chemistry with Fred, big Jim Murray would be cool too but he’s not waking up that early, hopefully Hardy is an option

Fred and Rich were a great Ying and Yang. Fred had great nfl knowledge but Rich had such a fine grasp of pop culture and music knowledge. It was perfection in radio!
Sounds like Rich (who wanted to negotiate separately) wanted to increase his own personal footprint. Perhaps get into mgmt or something like that. Nothing wrong with that. He is ambitious. It didn’t work out.
Bring back Gary Tanguay! But seriously, it always sucks when the band breaks up, but the production has gotten kind of stale post-pandemic. Rich was obviously burned out and the lack of new content showed. I’m sure some of it has to do with management pinching pennies as well. Good luck Fred. I was around when Rocco and Birdsey killed the afternoon ratings, then they had a disagreement in contracts and both disappeared.

I have a feeling Beasley's decision had nothing to do with Fred - he was just an excuse. I think Beasley soured on Rich the exact moment he complained on air about paying for Lockhart, especially the Administrative Costs line. I think that was when the line got crossed. You can't publicly humilate your boss like that and expect to get away with it. This does not look good if Beasley has to go to the bank for anything. I know other guys have joked about Beasley's financial problems, but not like that. For comparison, think what happened to Red Barber when he demanded the director show the empty seats in the stadium, directly leading to his dismissal. Joe G said afterwards that they were all commenting on it, but not like that. Not that explicitly. I think the same thing happened with Rich. Maybe without realizing it, he hit a little too close to home.
Underrated point is how Beasley Media screwed Rich over by firing their production guy, Mike Lochart, and forced Rich to pay out of his own pocket to bring him back. I always find it curious that Fred didn't contribute to that effort. Probably didn't care since Rich did all the hard work around production. Fred's marriage and now his professional career have blown up. I give the guy credit for putting on an air of optimism. I wouldn't be so confident in his shoes.

I moved away years ago, but always thought Toucher was hilarious & liked him more than Rich...used to change the station when Fred was out. I think just Toucher would be great, but I know I'm in a minority hahaha!
Minihane was fired because a moonbat activist teamed up with the Boston Globe to try and ruin his life. Callahan was fired because the show tanked after Minihane left.
I don't listen to Boston radio, but I've heard this is similar to the O&A breakup where the significantly more talented one had to go and the douche took over the reins of the show. Is this accurate?
Well, he was battling alcoholism. He is clean now, give him a chance. Soon his body will be healed from the boozing. I listened to these guys and 98.5 when minihane was hired. Minihane was such a rotten turd, I gave up on weei completely. Ita been 7 to 10 years since I listened to sports radio religiously. I rather listen to podcasts and RU-vid 😅. And the patriotis suck now. Lol
Maybe Rich did him a solid with the contract stuff. Once Fred inked his own deal Rich could leave to do whatever it is he is going to do. If he quit before Fred signs, maybe they don't sign him and Fred is without a job?
I have a feeling that comment is from when Fred was laying into Nick and Rich stopped him, saying it got angry and weird. Then Fred, enraged, responded with "we have seven minutes left." I believe the implication that this was a planned bit that got blown up. I think it was somewhere in there.
Rich is notoriously despised by about 90% of Boston sports radio employees. He’s a grade A douchebag. He’ll go to EEI with Adam Jones and it’ll suck so bad lol
How about last summer when Fred invited Rich to the Bill Burr Fenway show? Rich said he would go, then started telling Fred who else he could and could not invite. It was so weird.

Like him or not, Fred's rants & opinions usually drive a good, interesting conversation which is the whole point of a radio show. I fucking hate sports and I still listen to the show for the personalities & opinions. I'd get so bored of a show that's nothing but "98 Mile" bits, silly man-on-the-street gags, parody songs, etc. I'd also get bored of a show that's nothing but 1 guy ranting. Interesting shows need a healthy mix of personalities, opinions, and content.
First was the Crash breakup but the show felt like it had too many hosts. When Rich left though it felt really sudden and hurt the show. Hardy has stepped up to the plate well though. What they need is more produced bits though which is what Rich brought.
I used to listen to Rich when he was on the Kidd Kraddick show (RIP Kidd Kraddick) back in Dallas before Toucher and Rich. His stuff was excellent even back then to the point that Kidd often commented on air how much he missed Rich's bits after he left. No doubt the guy is talented!
When I heard Fred say, it was time Crash to go I think of one incident early in their 98.5 run (like first few months) when Crash was the news update guy. Crash has many talents but news reading is not one of them. The incident I recalled involved a visit from the PM of India to the WH. Crash said they will be having a "Steak Dinner." Fred - Wait. Wait. A steak dinner? For the visitors from India? That doesn't sound right? Are you sure about that? Crash - It says it right here. They discuss how inappropriate this is for several minutes until some guy calls in and they take it on the air. Caller (laughing hard) - It's a State Dinner...not a Steak Dinner. A painful moment of silence follows with the only sound being the Calling cackling. The silence is broken by.... Fred - AHHH, DAMNIT CRASH! Rich broke into hysterics, but Fred was as mad as I have ever heard him.
Weird that radio duos always seem to have the bitterest break ups. I think of Opie and Anthony and mike and mad Dog now toucher and richEven though mike and mad dog Have made peace in recent years.
Don't forget John Dennis and Callahan 😂.. they pushed ol' Dino out the door. Let's face it, married couples hate each other after 10 years. These guys were just sick of each other, it's normal. Imagine waking ⏰️ up at 4 am everyday 😢, and seeing the SAME faces for almost 2 decades

Disagree! I think Fred is hysterical and spontaneous, but Rich balanced that perfectly. I really thought they were close friends, this news sucks. But I would be bored to tears listening to Rich without Toucher.

The show was much better when Fred went to rehab, and had his throat issues and it was Rich and John. Fred is the one that has to go. He acts likes like early 2000’s Stern just not funny. Rich kept the show going with Fred’s on going issues. The show never went down in ratings. Sounds like management and Fred didn’t give him respect. And maybe Fred crossed him behind the scenes.

A few months ago they had a corporate Zoom call for all on air talent at Beasley at which Joe joined twenty minutes late and asked the moderator to catch him up. Something like that. Rich described it in detail. (Fred and Jon were both helpfully in the bathroom). It felt like one of those deals where T&R makes fun of someone then it starts a running bit - but Joe did not take it well at all and the whole matter was quickly dropped.
Fred, maybe Rich didn’t tell you anything because you don’t do anything. If Rich didn’t tell you that he changed the Twitter account, I bet you wouldn’t have even known. You’re the absolute king of throwing shade at people, and then acting like you’re the good guy or you’ve done nothing wrong. I stopped listening to the show a few years back STRICTLY because of you. I’m partially ashamed that I came back, but I’m also glad that I was giving Rich his much deserved attention and support. The Sports Hub is gonna look soooo dumb when you inevitably show up some morning, 12 drinks deep, and ranting about some racist sh*t again. I'm sure Rich was done with Fred, for the past 6 months I've been done with Fred and the only reason i didn't go to WEEI was Rich and John Fred is a negative and miserable person, treats John like a rented mule, picks fights with Murray and Lipshatz, and can't put together 2 sentences without stammering over his words. No more fart court, and Brookline 911. That was all Rich and Mike. Gonna give Greg Hill, Wiggy and Courtney a try next week.

The morning show, at times, can be more funny than not. Bertrand and Zolak with Hardy is the glue of the station, and Felger and Mazz with Jim Murray is just as good, if not better.
Minihane is a suicidal maniac, and toxic. Nobody wants him, he is now a OLD white guy that is obsessed with "trans" issues.. minihane would NEVER be hired
Beasley Media group kept the wrong guy. I watched because I was wondering where Rich was. Him and John are the reason I listened for the past 10 or so years. Fred is the reason I stopped listening last year. Good luck Rich. I will be tuning in at 10, until then I will be listening on WEEi. Wallach always gets stuck with cohosts that berate and demean him. Rich seemed to act as a buffer against that, now that he’s gone I wonder how long John will be for the show unless Fred starts showing more appreciation for him. To me, Rich was the far more important of the two. Fred is great at reacting but doesn’t seem like he is any good at planning and keeping a team together. Good luck to you both.

Yeah, we’re good on that. Hardy was the perfect replacement. Fred wouldn’t put up with Kendra for more than a week. He can’t talk shit about her because she’s a young woman. But he’s put in all his dues. He’s not going to work well with some 27 year old girl they dug off Instagram.
Just sucks....obvs knew for awhile things were bumpy. Rich carried a lot with all of Fred's stuff going on (mostly nobodies fault...life happens.) Just wish we could have a send off if this is ultimately whats going to happen...i blame money bags Wallach !!!!
Not a Fred fan rich kept it real and was the only one with any kind of sports knowledge stopped listening to this show because of Fred now I know to never tune in again
Actually, 99X is back on the air in Atlanta. It's on frequency 100.5 now and features at least two of the 99X originals, Leslie Fram and... Well, a guy Fred probably doesn't want mentioned.
Kirk Minihane called this a while ago. He's close with Jim Murray and Scott Zolak and is even friends with Fred now, so he definitely heard that the show was going to end from at least one of them.
Who wants to listen to this crap....it's not entertaining. In my opinion Rich was more creative and positive. Toucher has a lot of personal problems (misogynist, addictions, paranoid, physical issues, etc.), and always plays the victim. I feel badly for the people still on the show who have to interact with him. You can tell they are walking on eggshells because he's easily offended. I guess that's why Rich left the show.
Fred he was probably sick of having to pick up the slack every time you showed up hammered or didn’t show up at all… Even though I couldn’t stand Rich laughing constantly like whatever was said was the funniest thing and I listen to the other station because of that Fred being a drunk on the show is what drove Rich away

I always preferred Fred. The fact is when Fred said that sometimes you could say things and Rich wouldn't listen, was exactly true. When topics were debated Rich often took very asinine, non-nuanced positions and wouldn't relent. Sometimes I thought he was maybe the dumbest host on the sports hub. Anyway just some random meaningless listeners' opinion
This is sad news. I think Fred is the reason to tune in, but Rich makes him funnier because of how he responds and also when he cracks up - bc Fred rarely breaks. I laugh harder when people laugh too. Most of all, I’m worried about losing: 1. Fart Court 🫣 🙏 Who will try these important cases if not them? 2. SAS is Horny Also, T&R is a great radio show that just happens to talk about sports between bits. They are/were unique and that’s why they have lasted. Some of you in the comments just do not get that your opinion never mattered, and still doesn’t.
