Architects know that thermal breaks enhance performance of doors and windows. Here's a product that uses the same methodology to thermally break the entire exterior wall.

Great show! I think these T-studs will have a prominent place moving forward. Super cool product, saw Matt Risinger showcase on his show as well. Definitely great info. Passive house concepts of tight envelope, good insulation, air circulation and energy efficient exchange, decreased sizing of hvac/heating units because of decreased need is the future. I think all are super interesting. The problem is no one knows about it! I went to a parade of homes, I asked every builder out of the 25 plus very nice homes and only 1 had basic clue of what I was talking about. What I am interested in is the most cost efficient way to achieve this. We will be building a house in the next 2 years and my concern is that I won't be able to find a builder or trades that have any experience using these newer materials or building to that standard. Maybe California will lead the charge because of that initiative but not yet in my neck of the woods yet.

Hey Thanks Luke, glad you enjoyed the video! The T-Stud is definately an interesting development. As for your concerns with the building industry not "keeping up" with energy efficeny advancements and out here in CA, new regulation. I expect it will just take some time. I don't know where you're located but I expect if you continue to research, I expect you'll discover a builder in your area that shares your interest in Passive House. Luke Mil Don’t worry! More and more builders are paying attention. Just keep asking questions until you get the response you’re looking for. Thanks for the feedback!

That's because the T-Studs still have a very limited availability. It is a local market thing which, although it could be great universally, just never seemed to be able to get the product fully on the market. Apparently, it's a great concept but they can't raise the funds to get it to market.

Have you never heard from tji joist. Very efficient. No foam. Better insulation is cellulose. And build walls with 300mm or more. Energy you not needed is the cheapest!!!!

Just use Zip-R sheathing for thermal break, air tightness and water shedding.

How does double studding compare; for example 2x3 or 2x4 studs staggered on 2x6 top and bottom plates 12" o.c.?

Interesting. Looks like a way to go.

It appears they have a great concept, but lack funds to actually do anything with it. They just can't get it off the ground.

I would love to know the price of a 96inch T-stud, a 2x6 is about 5.50$ and two 2x3’s adds up to about 4.50$ so we’re already at 4.50$ just in two 2x3’s and we haven’t even talked about how much the dowel like rods cost or how much it costs to even make something that complex, plus the insulation inside of it (assuming it would be cheaper to buy it pre-insulated rather than pay someone else to do it)... seems like a good idea and concept, but I’m skeptical of if it’s even practical or if it’s too expensive, if the price doesn’t exceed 40% (which is potentially the most amount of extra R-Value)more than the price of a 2x6 (so about 7.70$)then I guess it’s worth it

I have found new and improved to be quite expensive and not much better in function than tried and true.
