As an expert T205 collector, you got a good deal. Being a Boston Red Sox collector also, I would have bought it for this price. Don’t worry about any tampering, it’s legit. Even if it was, he would have done you a favor by putting that card in it. Do what you want as for keeping as is or taking it out and slabbing it. I personally would keep it as is, although I wish the dummies at Topps would have indicated T205. I have a few T205’s in the T206 holders as well as correct T205 ones.
Peter thanks for the reply. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I was psyched for the price - I had budgeted about $40 higher to be honest. I'm keeping it as is for now.
Thanks Orlando! I think I am going to keep it as is for now. It presents nice enough. Grading is always an option down the road, but no need to rush towards anything.
I have all the red Sox t205s and t206s, but none are buybacks. I'd keep it just as it is. It looks great that way. If you really think about it, slabs aren't that attractive. A piece of clear plastic with a grocery shelf price label at the top. If you're worried about authenticity, give those flakes a look under a loupe. Fantastic pickup!!!
Thanks for the feedback! I am going to keep it as is. It presents really nicely in a one-touch. That's sick that you have all the RedSox. The Speaker is a dream card of mine in the T206 set. More realistically I am looking at a T201 Speaker/Gardner for next year.
Nice buy-back! Depends on the collection on whether I would break it out. Topps border adds provenance for the buy--back program. Maybe if you are a T-205 collector you might want to break it out for consistency with your set.
Thanks Stuke. Since I am not a huge T205 collector and don't need consistency I am keeping it as is. It looks nice in a one-touch, plus I figure I can always break it out sometime in the future if that's where it leads me.
HAHA the Celtics run was fun. I'm by no means a hardcore fan, but definitely have a rooting interest. My daughter's friends started watching at school this year so she wanted to get into basketball. It was fun watching highlights with her.
I'm not really sure what I would do here. I get both arguments for grading it outside of Topps' holder. This many years in, I'm still waffling on my thoughts about buybacks. I like the autos but I don't care for the stamps or frames
I'm keeping it as-is. In the future I can always break it out, but once I break it out there's no going back, so no need to rush it. I waffle constantly.
Really nice T205 addition! I have two tobacco cards as well but would like to add more. Personally I would probably take it out of there because I think it would just look better and I love the musty smell of 113 year old cardboard. lol I’d totally get if you left it as is thougj
For now I think I am going to leave it in. I can always take it out later if that sits with me, but once I do it, I figure I can't go back, so I'm going to let it stew and see where that takes me. Can't beat the old paper smell though. Old books, old cards.
