I decided to try applying Mr Surfacer 500 to fill in the gap between the bilge keel and the hull on the 1/200 Mikasa I am working, on as being lazy I wanted to reduce the amount of clean up required.
Depending on the size of the gap, multiple applications may be needed and the Mikasa got a minimum of 2 passes and some worse areas got 3 passes. But the removal of the minimal excess was quickly and easily removed.

Very nice, I tried this but struggled to remove, but did leave for over 12 hours. The syringe application would make a difference as it’s more controlled

Thanks for watching and commenting. True, only putting it exactly where needed it minimised the amount of clean-up making it a quick process. Because of the length and number of bilge keels by the time I finished the fourth run I could almost go back to the first and start clean-up.

Interesting tip, thank you. Any reason to not just insert the needle into the Mr. Surfacer and withdraw the plunger? Is the Mr surfacer too viscous?

Hi, thanks for watching. Yeah I did try that but it doesn't really draw anything up unfortunately.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm not sure. I came up with this as pretty lazy and wanted to minimise the amount of cleanup :)

hello! i have been trying your method but i cannot find any way that i can reuse even one syringe. they all fail my even after i clean them. seems that the rubber plunger refuses to cooperate for a second time and simply detaches from the handle inside the syringe. any advices maybe?

Hi, thanks for watching and trying this technique. Sorry I don't have any advice to make the syringes last. I just used it to fill the gaps in the bilge keels I was working on at the time and didn't need to do anymore after so just binned it when done. Perhaps a smear of silicone grease on the rubber part before inserting might work.
