Thanks for the vid. I just did my pump and belt as it was starting to leak. 135k miles. Here are a few additional tips after going through my swap. The belt tensioner has a slot for a screw that you can use to lessen the tension. Take one of the bolts that holds the tensioner to the head off and use that to push the tensioner down. I ended up removing the tensioner as well. The new pump does not need the pulley removed for the install. The pulley has 3 holes that you line up with the holes that hold the pump and you can just put the socket + screw through each hole. For old pump removal I did remove the pulley off the old pump to see what I was dealing with.
Thanks for the video! Dropped our Touareg off today to have this done, I was not feeling it as a project with the weather we have and I have no heated space to do it. Subscribed for the Decatur plate!
Oh. My. Gawd. Out of all the RU-vids I find your channel and I wasn’t even looking for a DIY. I’ll have to link up with you guys for some wheelin once I trade the gti in for another TDI Touareg. Huge regret trading that for the gti.
Thanks for the video. Just did the same with my water pump. After filling up coolant checked the hose from the bottom of the radiator and its actually cold. Made more than 100 miles after that, no air in the system, but still can't find why is that. Could you please check your bottom hose?
Thanks for posting this! We've done our T1 water pump and getting ready to do the T3's this weekend because we have the beginning of a small leak. Will you also do your thermostat anytime soon?? 😉
Have you ever changed the secondary coolant pump on your car because i have engine light on my 2013 toureg with that same engine, so scan the car with my vcds and it said the secondary coolant pump open circuit.
@@dogshavecars I did found it behind the engine but the only way to access it is to remove the intake hose, it wrap into some form heat shield material. I also the have broke the bracket and replaced the pump without a bracket cause there is no way to get any tool behind there, i try my best for several hrs.
@panteracfh9393 yes I did change mines two times now, it's at the back of the engine like under the throttle body, it's kinda difficult to reach so you got to remove intake pipe and other stuff in your way, it's wrap into a heat shield type thing.
No thread locker... had someone put thread locker on another (Audi/VW) engine and I ended up having to use heat and a welder to remove one of the bolts for the tensioner. Eeek. Just torque to spec.
Anything to know about refilling coolant after reinstalling pump? I’ve found a leak that I think is from the water pump so looking at replacing it myself.
@@dogshavecars Any chance you did that thermostat? would love to see it! Luckily for me my heat just stopped working so thinking ill be doing water pump, thermostat and probably N82 valve and just hope thats it cause theyre all easy to get to lol
Benjamin Narbut This was done as preventative maintenance. Do your homework and you'll find any 100k plus mile car dictates a similar repair. Thank you.
My 2012 just went out at 150k. This and my 2012 passat are freaking beasts. I love these cars. And so far they aren't hard to work on like other German cars. Except that secondary coolant pump. I've got to fix that, and it's gonna be a mfer
