I get so tired of people getting so butt hurt over someone parking in the fuel island for what ever reason…..there isn’t a pull up line for cars….you just have to wait until someone moves or go somewhere else….what’s the difference!
Jonathan Smith. Indeed. It’s the same as parking on the scale. Just wait until the driver finishes his 30 minute break, and then you can scale your truck.
Great video - I liked the first part having camera in the cab with him - felt like I was riding along. Short story: A friend in his 80's ran a Chevron gas station off interstate 20 in GA - he didn't mind truckers parking in his back lot behind gas station. One day the county officials complained about the lot being dirty and littered badly - he asked me if I would clean the lot being that he couldn't find anybody willing to do it (I working as a handyman). I found tons of trash - empty oil containers /soda bottles /beer cans....I removed 23 old truck tires. There were oil stains on the gravel where it looked like motor oil change took place - piles of broken pallets - old carpet. Took me nearly 2 days to clean it and cut weeds and crap. I know most truck drivers are honest hard working people just like the rest of us but...there are some that will just shit on you even after helping them out. I only charged him $300 for the work...he kicked in another $100. I worked my ass off. The old fella had one big gripe running the gas station - said the credit card companies made more money each month than he did as when he paid the *transact fees* they charge (hidden within each sale of goods). He passed away in 2017...heart attack. Y'all be safe out there you truckers and keep our country alive. You are appreciated more than you realize... 👍
I love the sound of the manual transmission. My soul’s purring. I’ve been stuck with an automatic for a few years. I haven’t run the NE for about 5 years now. I don’t miss it.
Always wanted to ride in one of these big rigs...at 73 this is as close I'll ever get...thanks for taking me along...made my day...Oh yeah and not to leave out that beautiful cabover 😛
@@Fetguf Thanks for the tip...have not heard of it...will look for it as I'm hooked...wife accuses me being a 10 year old in 73 year old pants...and my grandkids make sure I stay 10 🤪 👍
If you ever make it to the Willamette Valley in Oregon, the TA in Coburg on I-5 at Exit 199 is a good spot. They've made improvements over the past 5-10 years in that zone, as well as the city itself has grown in population.
I like loves. Always food i like, and they are everywhere. I am not a Big truck driver, but i do run cross country alot. Sometimes in a hotshot rig, sometimes in an RV for customer delivery. Sometimes for fun on my harley.
I drove a 362 in the 80s to and from the landfill it's only problem is it didn't have power Steering and no ac great video and keep up the good work God bless from Georgia
That TA has a huge abandoned vehicle problem trailers , tractors being left in the lot for weeks even months Some never being reclaimed I know for a fact I work the company that’s tows for that TA Multiple trailers and tractors where towed out of there the last two months Some drivers are using the lot for their own benefit Parking several pieces of equipment there on a regular bases that live in Baltimore That don’t pay for parking daily weekly on monthly That takes up many spots and makes it so over the road drivers can’t find a spot when needed I see drivers wanting to work on their trucks in the lot for days on end TA is trying to get the lot under some sort of normalcy not sure if that will ever happen !
@@xxzz9789 Try and stop trucks & trailer just being dropped for days & weeks and months tying the lot up for free Have to try something I could care less I have a place to park my truck It's drivers that don't care about other drivers that's the problem
Charging for parking sure isn't going to do it, that's just going to drive all their business away. Just get a towing contract set up & have clear signage that vehicles left unattended for more than X amount of time will be towed and list a very large recovery fee on the sign as extra incentive not to do it.
Upon leaving the oversized loading pen, I do hope that one truck gave you a laugh with his oversized load he had to haul... left side, starting at 13:36. Look closely. It sure made me smile and appreciate the humor!
What I like about this video is the 'birds eye view' of what a truck driver sees out of his windshield. If more car drivers were aware of a trucker's restricted p.o.v. and blind spots, maybe they wouldn't do such stupid things that put them in jeopardy.
10 or 11 years ago, it was 15 dollars to park overnight at the Boston street TA. It's probably way over 20 dollars now. If I got out of Baltimore when it was around 2pm, and I only had 2 or 3 hours left, I always tried to make it to the Pilot on I-70 at Hagerstown, or the one in Breezewood PA.
I've done the same over the years. BMT use to ding me for going cross the bay to the TA I said there's no food or nothing in Curtis Bay I'm not taking my 34 out there.
I’d park at businesses. When they woke me the next morning to ask who I was, I’d just tell em sorry, I’m at the wrong address. Worked every time. Toots.
Id say there was a wonderful opportunity for an enterprising, truck loving family right now. Throw a dart at the map and open a truckstop. Provide home cooked food and clean tidy showers, maybe even some rooms for those that have been in a sleeper for a week. Maybe even a truck wash and a service bay.
Just bringing back the home cooked food alone would be huge. Nowadays 99% of truck stops have garbage franchise food. I remember fifty years ago when I was a lot younger and drove from one duty station to another i made it a point to find truck stops when I was hungry. The food was always outstanding and sometimes it was even better than my moms.
Sadly, due to my age I actually remember places like those...a few places where put in 100gls and get a free steak dinner, shower, and parking... Now lucky to get a free cup-o-joe
I stayed the night at that same TA about a month ago, 25 for a reserved spot. Drop trailers and locals parked every where. Hot water was out also so no showers. This place is definitely one of the worst truck stops around. But it's hard to find places in that part of the country
Hey man, Thanks for the ride. Enjoyed the virtual experience. I know you have to have a deep well of patience for that profession. I don't have it. "To each his own" as they say. Be well.
I remember when I started Driving a Truck they didn't even have power steering on them That would put you to work in a tight spot and no air conditioner and talk about the sweat but I survived now days it was worth it KEEP ON TRUCKIN 🇺🇸 🚛 👍 🙌 🐘 Another good video Steve 👍
After 50 years TA is currently circling the drain... Can't buy enough oil to keep the PM business going. Can't keep the service department open 24/7 because they can't hire enough qualified techs. Technician skill level is below average. No longer in a partnership with Freightliner. Restaurants closing.... TA is not long for this world.
In the mid 90s all of the 76 truck stops in the DFW metroplex were all owned and operated by by individuals. Those owners got together and created a company and partnered with TA. I don't know the full details of the agreement, but I do know that TA was to provide fuel and property maintenance to every location. They purposefully began to neglect maintenance and delay fuel deliveries. This forced some to get fuel from other suppliers which ended up being a breach of contract and they lost their truck stop to TA. Others couldn't afford the maintenance costs of their properties and were forced to stop providing some services which was a breach of contract and lost their truck stop. The rest ended up out of fuel and therefore couldn't provide that service so they ended up losing their truck stop to TA. The owners group was too small of a group to fight in court and ended up giving up. So in my eyes TA basically stole about 25+ truck stop locations in the DFW metroplex and got away with it. I'm sure they did this nationwide as well. Again, I don't know what the full agreement they had, but the end result was going to be in favor of TA. Probably bad oversight on the owners, but that doesn't excuse TA for their shady dealings. I hope they end up failing.
@@wetspotswimwear1199 "Probably bad oversight on the owners, but that doesn't excuse TA for their shady dealings" Literally covered what you said and you are defending a predatory company that attacks small businesses. Good job.
Well now. For those of you that either park at the fuel island for your break, or don’t see anything wrong with it, would you be okay with another trucker to back in front of your truck (blocking you) to take their break? Shower? Go inside and eat?
Great video Steve. I'd eat on the side of the road before I would pay any amount.. That is just ridiculous! I bet a lot of drivers don't pay just to eat or whatever
I just Left Baltimore, I'm in New Jersey now at a mall doing a 34. But when I'm staying in Baltimore, I always go to that Walmart on the North Side. Nice, ducked off, and nobody bothers you. I would never sleep at a TA, I'm a Love's guy myself. It's unfortunate Love's don't have any stores in that area for at least 50 miles. And the only Love's in the whole 3 state Radius of that TA stays full 24 hours a day. It's the Loves in New Jersey lol.
That's an understatement....prices they charge for junk food etc in store are very ridiculous...even the coffee prices are hilarious. I stopped buying stuff from them...just gasoline (not a trucker). 👍
@@rongamache6980 yes, I realized they didn't care about us drivers when I couldn't buy a steak at 6:55pm because they closed at 7. I was shocked they weren't open 24/7. Shame on shithole companies
Thank you for telling all the great Big Rig Driver's about this BS charge. I'm just asking anyone what do you do, when you been trying to get load on TIME. The only Truck stop is TA. Driver needs FUEL. what do you do. They have a strangle hold on all you hard working guys.
It’s been a few Months since I stayed at the Jessup, MD TA, but when I was there, it was $25 to park or spend $25 and show receipts. And the first two hours were free. This was probably February or March 2022.
If you get 50 gallons or more parking should automatically be free. If you purchase $20 in the store parking should automatically be free. If you get your truck washed there you're parking should be free. And if you don't fit into those categories your damn company should reimburse you for the parking!!!!
I-44 Springfield, Joplin New Buc-ees coming to Springfield, MO I-44 200 Truck parking spaces. Coming soon 70 acre Travel Center in Mt. Vernon, MO I-44 78 fuel pumps, 200 truck parking spaces. TA in Mt. Vernon MO I-44 Good truck parking, good food, good service. They have fuel attendant and will fill your tanks & clean windshield, free.
I spent the last 14 years over the road..... And I just locked in local employment a couple of days ago..... I am so glad I don't have to deal with this junk any longer....y'all can have it
Go to the Royal Farms on Ponca Street. It’s a few minutes from the TA. You can park on the street and get food made at the Royal Farms. Easier than wasting time in that cluster.
New York towing trucks for no reason, over 100,000 California drivers losing their job. Truck drivers FORCED to pay back student debt, Pilot/Flying J collaborating to make autonomous trucks, and now this?? How bad does it have to get before we do something guys? Not just a strike, we need to ACTUALLY do something.
As a fuel hauler, I can tell you firsthand how this shit is so annoying. Especially if store volume is low and you really need to make a drop and you can’t because you have trucks blocking you left and right and parked at your fuel drop location
Funny thing is TA and petro charge for parking ; 20-25 bucks a truck per 10-24 hours and some have potholes as deep as a foot . Along with that most of those truckstops are outdated and understaffed, restaurants closed or low quality high priced food offerings, same old crap merchandise like shiny CB,s and keychains. Seems we were forgotten about. Seen as cash cows for these places. Most truckstops are more interested in the car drivers and tourists nowadays . Not us. The truckstop owners seem more interested in selling roller hotdogs, keychains and Jeff Gordon hats.
At this point Steve, it might behoove you to search out smaller Mom & Pop truck stops and patronize them instead of these chains... If there are any left. 🤔
Very rare to find mom and pop places especially in the eastern part of the country, just finding a place to park to take a break is a pain in the butt. I no longer run east of Ohio or north of the Carolinas for the past 5 years.
They shouldn't charge parking under 45 min. Just get a stack of boots and a tow truck if you have issues with ppl that drop their sh*t for weeks at a time. Tow the rig to another lot and charge 50$/day for the storage fees. (Put signs everywhere saying you'll get towed.) Give it a couple months and it'll come back to normal.(a couple will need to be towed very month but thats normal operations)
one of the bad reminders of wy I'm glad I don't truck anymore, the pay to park is bull💩 Yeah I still remember the truck stops that charge a parking fee. 18 WHEELS ROLLING PIGGY BANK IS WHAT SOME PEOPLE THINK. Thank you for the video and safe travels now.
the main problem i have with ta or any gas station charging for parking is non of it goes back to maintain tha lot, they make you pay to park in a lot that looks like it got bombed. for the most part its just a money grab but some place may do it to stop abandoned equipment/trucks. or stop locals from storing they trucks/trailers when not in use a few truckers ruin it for all sadly
I just went on a road trip in my car. I don’t know how you guys do it some days. The trucks make the economy turn and you guys get treated like second class citizens. Truck stop packed. Can’t park anywhere. The trucker food in a lot of places is garbage. Maybe guys should start parking on the White House lawn and idle all night. It’s disgusting how the life of a driver has changed so much. Not enough truck stops and most are to small. Ya know after seeing all that I still get the itch to go back. Great video FSC. Stay safe and have a great day.
Most of the time pumps 1-4 are either broken or somehow they get reserved to use as extra parking. Screwed up thing is if you don’t know that those pumps are down, the whole bullshit waiting game starts all over again as you have to circle back around to the end of the line. Then dumb MFs gotta park three wide on that road between the pumps and the Shitty store just to get out. Needless to say the O’Donnell St station is a piece of crap I’m no fan of. I used to hate that TA in Jessup, MD, but now I’ll gladly go there and never go to that dump off O’Donnell. Rude and disrespectful employees there as well, only being nice to the drivers who’ll later pay them 5 bucks to use their crusty crack pipe burned lips for you know.
must be a pain in the ass dealing with all the inconsiderate imbeciles out on the road don’t think I’d have the tolerance to deal with jackasses every day being a truck driver 🤷♂️🤔thanks for the ride along 👍💪🇺🇸💪👍
Truck driver always parking where they have no business parking when they come into TA, like there's no back parking lot for the tractor trailers but they want to park out at the front where the fire lane and places where they don't suppose to park, and then they get all Butt Hurt the truck drivers, when you wake their ass up because, I mean who decide to park in the Firelane, you should know you going to get woken up.
I was there 20 years ago tried to sleep but lizards work 24/7 at that place been there once at noon and they were already on the radio selling their bodies LOL it's kind of a s*** hole there that's for sure I doubt it's changed any.
Hey Steve, I have noticed that the past several videos, the Closed Captioning is unavailable. Is this by design? I find that even the youtube generated cc is better than none.
That's a crap hole T/S RETIRED NOW AFTER 50YRS BUT I REMEMBER THAT STOP I QUIT PICKING UP FREIGHT THERE AROUND THE CORNER BUT STOPPING THERE YOU PUT YOUR LIFE ON THE LINE LOTS OF ROBBERY'S AND A FEW SHOOTINGS!
TA's corporate leadership sucks. One of the TA locations do I go into regularly has a guy running an entire trucking company out of the parking lot and they do nothing about it. One guy has like 10 Drop trailers and five tractors. This guy has taken over one part of the parking lot to the point where he's bold enough to try to make people move and corporate won't allow the manager to have him towed. No he does not have permission or any type of agreement
Yep that dundalk in Baltimore lol,17 yrs going in there hauling BMW cars what shit hole it is and that ta is only place to cat scale out within reasonable distance
TA Baltimore is the biggest dump there is been there once and that was enough never again, they should pay drivers that stop there not be charging for parking
Wow that’s amazing how they are charging the TA needs to go after the ones that are causing the problem all TA has to do is mark the truck and trailer that has been parked for over 3 hours with a orange sticker after that tow time if not have paid for 24 hour parking.
I must have driven past the ta Baltimore a few hundred times. Never stopped. The smell is horrible just driving past. I used to park at the one in jessup. You could get a spot there 8 years ago. Now it's a gamble. Now 3/4 of the lot is reserved. And was there a few months ago and got backed into by you know who in a clapped out volvo. The ta/petro is making up for lost revenue by reserving the spots and making the drivers pay. Theres only a handful left that are still old school and doing well.
hey Steve! i must say that i approve of your choice of the background music for this episode. nothing like "the symphony of motion" by the "4 clys and turbo quintet" 😁
I haven't been to a TA in many years. Most of them are shit holes and since you have to pay to park at most of them they never get one cent of my money.
Have you ever seen those portable coolers that are also air conditioners? Vice Grip garage used one on their road trip down Rout 66. I wonder if something like that would be a good enough stand in until you can get an APU?
I mean on private property the rules is what you make it when it comes up to what the manager says and what upper management says, yeah you can't park out in the fire lane or places where you don't suppose the park.
When 🇺🇸 cant find a name for there own cities, lets copy our neighbors and confuse the sh*t out of them. Ontario california lol. You guys also have a montreal, vancouver and so much more. Even street names lol.
