Hi Wade, great job for doing this! Great ideas. Quick evaluation: Work on: simply length of time. With items like this on RU-vid, viewer usually want to get to the meat quickly. Doing good: overall good quality video with excellent ideas. I do like how you have the topics pop up on the screen so that viewers can get to what they want to view. Also the bonus for easing new members into Table Topics is great.

There's no app with table topics generator? i'm thinking doing 20 minutes daily of Impromptu Speech to improve my conversationalist skills

There may be this type of app, but I haven't looked for one in the past. Please do share if you find this type of thing! That sounds like a great strategy for improving! Feel free to comment back later and let me know how it goes!

My group "COS freedom speakers" Zoom-based from La Jolla, successfully played/created "Toast madness". Voting in groups produced a playoff in table topics. A lot of fun and allowed second time speakers a chance to improve. Mike Ruthaford is our president

Hey Wade. How would you suggest a Table Topic session "Online"? Where you will not have a hat or books to give to choose a topic? Will I use a Power Point with options A, B, C or D with the questions hidden?
@wadepaterson
@wadepaterson 3 года назад
Great question! For control your destiny, you can still have questions numbered on a separate piece of paper and choose somebody to give you a number between 1 and 10 and read them the corresponding questions. If you're on a Zoom call and let's say there are 12 other club members on the call as well.... you could ask a member to give you a number between 1 and 12 (let's say they pick "6")... then you can count out the 6th Zoom screen on the grid on your screen, and that is the person who will get asked a question. For the debate concept, you could manually split up 2 groups virtually and have each of them change their zoom names (for example: Wade - Team 1 and R Olguin - Team 2, etc.). I hope some of these ideas help!

@@wadepaterson Hey i like listening to your video, I started off being a Grammairan , Quizmaster and then i'm gone to Table Topic. I don't know how to give out question, hopefully i will get some tips from your video, or maybe you can give me some tips. Thank Wade. 😊
@wadepaterson
@wadepaterson 2 года назад
@@jessicawilson2964 Thanks so much for taking the time to listen, Jessica! Hopefully this video provides you with some helpful tips, but I think the biggest key things to remember are: - Try to make your questions relate to the meeting theme. For example, if the theme is "dancing," you could ask the following types of questions: "On a scale of 1 to 10, how good of a dancer are you and why?" ... "What is your favourite type of music to dance to?" ... "If you could dance with anyone in the world, who would it be?" etc. - Say the person's name before you ask the question. This gives them time to mentally prepare because they know the question is for them. - Try to ask easier questions to newer members and save the difficult questions for more advanced Toastmasters. - At the beginning of the Table Topics section, explain the purpose of Table Topics, but don't spend too long doing this. The whole purpose is to ask as many questions as possible so club members have an opportunity to practice impromptu speaking. Best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions!
