In this video I do some cleaning and maintenance to my tablesaw the DeWalt DW745, to keep the blade height adjustment, rack and pinion fence and blade tilt working smoothly and I also clean the teeth on the blade to help it cut cleanly.

Keith on the height adjusting mechanism use some Teflon lubrication spray. It gives the metal a ptfe coating plus the saw dust won't stick to it like it does to the oil.

I purchased a similar DeWalt about 4 months ago and had just started thinking about maintenance. Because my shop is mobile I fold up the stand and blow off the underside each time I use it. Thanks for showing how to scrub the gears and blade those parts filled in a few gaps in what I need to do.

Good job Keith. I just tried 3 in 1 Dry-lube on my planer adjustment threads. It's not supposed to attract dust. Time will tell. It sure moves smoother now. Have a great week!

I've had mine a year now so it's about time I showed it some TLC :) Try getting some dry lube from a bike shop/halfords. it doesn't attract dirt and grime to bike chains so it should work on keeping sawdust out of your gears

We always wiped and lubed the blades at the end of every shift. We used bee's wax for the light lube. Each morning we'd run a sacrificial board to check the fence and remove any excess from the blade.

I've been taking a leaf blower to mine to remove the dust. I need to start turning it upside down to clean the nooks and crannies though. I put automotive paste wax on the table and spray wd40 into the miter gauge slots and on the fence tracks.

Thanks for sharing. Have you ever experienced the fence not moving at all? I have the fence unlocked and it struggles to move up and down the rail. It seems like the fence lock mechanisms' arms pushing out into the rail holding it in one place is not retracting. Not sure if this make any sense.

Thanks for the video! I’m in the middle of a flooring project and am switching from the 2x4 phase to the laminate finish phase. Those 2x4s were very sappy! (Probably should’ve cleaned it earlier, looking at the blade and other areas up close, it makes sense that things felt a bit “sticky” towards the end there haha…!)

Did yours come with that piece of mesh attached to the blade enclosure? I got this same model saw, but it doesn't have that, so tons of dust escapes before it gets low enough for the dust collector to pull it out.

Coincidentally I did my DW745 very similarly to you just a couple of days ago. I used WD40 rather than oil as that's what I had to hand.
@gordonchapman222
@gordonchapman222 5 лет назад
Just ignore this if you disagree H O A. Ive heard that WD40 can be a dirt magnet so I hoped you wiped it all of. Also I think it may be a water based solvent so while it gets stuff clean if you leave it on metal it may attract rust, unless of course you keep re-applying it a lot and cleaning it off.

Freud make blades with different bores, you just need to choose the one with the correct bore to fit your saw. I didn't adjust my riving knife. Thanks, Keith

Hello Keith. Do you think we can use a dado blade set on the DW745? Second question: If not, is it a good idea to set two blades against each other to get a thicker kerf?
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 лет назад
The dw745 doesn’t have a big enough arbor for dado stacks. Stacking blades is very very dangerous. In the UK even proper dado stacks are not considered safe.

@martenveldthuis 5 лет назад
I have the same saw, and what I did was just order a second blade guard assembly from some spare parts website. Once installed, bring the blade up so that it's up to or just above the insert plate. Then you can mark a line on the riving knife, which will be at the same height as the blade, or just under it. Cut at that line with a tool of your choice (I found it pretty hard with the hacksaw and used an angle grinder instead). Round over all of the edges with a file.
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 лет назад
I just cut down the original knife. I haven’t made a video about it because I don’t want to upset all the safety nellys!
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 лет назад
It’s not something I would recommend doing because it means your blade guard won’t fit. Unless you buy an additional one and want to swap them over all the time
@paultay23
@paultay23 5 лет назад
@@RagnBoneBrown I bought a second one and cut it down and drilled (eventually) a hole in it so i can have the guard on... Also ground a bit off the back so my zero insert fits without cutting through to the back if you get what i mean.

It's a "flappy paddle", makes turning the saw off quicker when you've finished a cut and for safety reasons. They cost £20 from Paul Taylor, one of Keith's viewers and attach with 2 X M5 bolts after drilling a couple of holes in the trim above the power switches. If you're interested drop Keith an email and he'll supply contact details.
