The biggest problem with most of these mounts in small airplanes is that you can’t find one that will actually be useful without the iPad mini still blocking the instrument panel. I was able to mount my iPad mini from the bottom of the yoke but the problem was now the mount and the iPad hits my lap when I try to move the yoke. The mounts may be good in Cirrus planes because they have just one stick to the left of the center of your body. Another thing if like me, you rent airplanes you really don’t want to take them in and out often on the aircraft’s plexiglass because you not only make marks, but you weaken the suction each time you reinstall it.

Yeah, I had a Yoke mount for my iPad mini and it block some critical instruments. I have moved the iPad to the left side suction on glass with the magnet strong enough to hold it while I punch on it. Seems to be the lowest profile for blocking any instrument panel.

@@TakingOff yeah, I’ve tried that before too. Another problem at least on my behalf is I am left-handed it is very hard to write on the pad when it is mounted there. Also, it is not ideal to block any window whatsoever especially when you have to look for traffic. Maybe one day they will have a spot that it could be mounted on the instrument panel away from other instruments. In the meantime, I put it on my lap and when I need to use it, I’ll pull it off the Velcro strap and hold it up eye level when I, I level while I need to look at it. A great option would be to mount it below the yoke with an extension long enough to curve the iPad closer to your chest and be able to curve up to the level with the top of the yoke and angle at about 45 degrees toward the yoke’s center area.

@@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity they do now have a kneeboard mount that I used for the first time on my last trip. Uses the same magnet to hold the iPad.

Kneeboard mounts are only good when you’re away from busy terminal areas. When you’re in high traffic areas your head is bobbing up and down constantly looking at ADS-B traffic targets on the iPad, making you dizzy very quickly. Any position that’s up high and keeps your head straight up all the time is safer, especially on night approaches or taking off in the so called dark hole over water, looking down during that time is just dumb.

Ive got an exterior GoFly mount. I don't know about GoFly specifically for suction cup mounts, but I believe 67d is the only one to make it all in the US. A lot of the others are just buying stuff from China and putting their logo on it. Probably why my suction cup mount I had of another company just fell apart.

Excellent episode Dan and Christy, thank you. 67 Designs has some good looking mounts. I have been having the biggest problem with deciding how to mount my iPad mini in the 172. Since I am 6'4" there is little real estate that doesn't interfere with something. So far a knee board mouth has been the only option that somewhat works, but don't like it. I will be looking into these to see if something they have will work. Keep up the excellent work as always. Safe skies 🇺🇸🛩️
