Shows how the tailgate on the BWise Ultimate Dump Trailer works and performs some preventative maintenance on the moving parts by using WD-40 Specialist Silicone Lubricant to protect the surface of the metal springs and hinges. Wes stops by to deliver insulation we will be using in our pole barn so TTWT gives him a chance to operate Johnny (John Deere 1025R) and the 3032E tractor on loan to us from Good Works Tractor. It has a Curtis cab on it for warmth!

A heavy duty non skid tape like “skateboard tape” is perfect for between the bars. For anyone saying it won’t hold up to the tractor this is what we used on c-130 floors and we load 30,000 lb armored trucks on it.

Hi Tim. I have a dump trailer and when I load equipment I tip the box up a little bit which brings the far back down a little which in turn makes the ramp not as steep. Works good for me. It might keep your backhoe from digging in the ground too.

Tim, Enjoy your video's. I have had two ultimate dumps for a while when the gate is slick I use the front lift to raise the front of the trailer even with the truck still connected that lowers the back and give a smaller grade for equipment to climb up.

Tim, I've used military grade non skid coating by American Safety for an anti skid coating on metal ramps that were exposed to heavy forklift traffic. It was a roll on application and held up extremely well and was a very good product which exceeded expectations. I believe it would work well on your tailgate.

Tim: Try Gator Grip high friction tape from Koffler Industries. I put some on my very slick aluminum ramp on my trailer, sealed the edges as they told me to (it's worth the time to seal the edges), and have found it to be extremely durable. No rips or cuts, and very aggressive tread. Will stand up to tractor tires with ease. Their customer service was very helpful with explaining the installation process. Thanks for your videos! Craig

Tim, I had some similar concerns with the tailgate on a toy hauler RV. It had checker plate which was fairly good when dry but not so hot when wet. When unloading the motorcycle, it was a little dicey at best and very nerve racking at worst. I came up with the idea to clean it so no oil or water was on it and used roll on truck bed liner from Menards and sprinkled black silica sand for sand blasting on the liner before it was dry. I put two coats on and it has held up well and is non-slip! It feels like coarse sandpaper and I wouldn't want to fall on it. May work for you and isn't too expensive or hard to put on. Easy to touch up if necessary.

Hi Tim, i've seen people paint the tailgate and sprinkle sand onto the wet paint so it sticks and gives grip, cheap and easily repeated. Some even paint over the sand to make it more durable as it can loosen eventually.
@AnotherLameYTchannel

I think you would slip on bed liner if it was wet or muddy also. I would probably get some metal grate and cut it to fit in between the ribs on the gate. Either screw them on or weld them.
@AirplaneDoctor_
@AirplaneDoctor_ 5 лет назад
For non slip I use stuff called deck tread which is a paint/sponge on type of product used for wing walks on aircraft. It came in both black and clear and lasts forever, I used it on my 806’s platform and steps 20 years ago, still hasn’t chipped.

Tim I live on a hill with a really steep ramp. What I did was you can go to Home Depot a lot of other places like that and you can buy these little bags of sand that you mix into paint. And you can just use that kind of paint on any slippery surface and it has lots of grip to it. It won't do any good with mud though or leaves I don't know if there is anything that can work for that

Taped grit adesive comes in different sizes and grits, but from my experience they don't last very long if you load often. It does not hold up at all if sliding anything. Spray coatings might be a good option. Me personally I welded some heavy expanded metal about two foot wide and the full length of my gate and welded on, and it does fine been on my gate for eight years now. Hope this helps you.

Use one of the epoxy anti-skid coatings used on aircraft carrier flight decks. They are formulated to withstand a tail-hook slamming into them at 150+ knots. While they will chip off if hit extremely hard, they will not peel or allow moisture to wick under them causing rust. There are several different grades and types depending on how anti-slip you want to be. The most aggressive are as sharp as and as hard as a knife.

Roll on some bed liner and shake some sand on it before the second coat. You could add sand after each additional coat until you have enough on the ramp in line with the tires.

Monstaliner is great, but to save money buy equipment paint from Tractor Supply or similar, mix in some coarse play sand and roll it on thick.
@dustinlantow7138
@dustinlantow7138 5 лет назад
Whenever you need to repaint the tailgage, add some sand to the paint. I would be careful with spray in bedliner. I jumped into the back of a pickup that had a spray in bedliner and it was like a hard plastic and since it was wet, it was as slick as ice. Another option would be expanded metal that has NOT been flattened, but it would take time to spot weld it in.

Your best gate grip would be line-x or Rhino sprayed on liner. I have Line-X in my truck and have hauled a lot of rock. Some so big it dented the bed but did not remove any liner material. Sand paper tape would work for some people. But not for Johnny
@EvanSlattery
@EvanSlattery 5 лет назад
I’d use bedliner. I prefer the line-x. Much tougher then rhino liner. Have it in my pickup. I dropped a heavy piece of steel and didn’t know I cracked the bed until I was doing some work to the truck on a lift
@jaredricker6994
@jaredricker6994 Год назад
For your ramp to make it not so smooth I would look into what to what they use on toy hauler camper ramps. On our toy hauler camper we get on steep grades and unlevel campsites and the rough texture has never been a slip issue in snow or rain. I think it’s more of like a bedliner material but I’m not sure what it is but it works great on all conditions. I’ve even walked up and down the ramp in the pouring down rain loading toys in the back of it didn’t have any issues.

I drove an equipment trailer for 30 years steel is slippery when it’s wet not much you can do about that and the more it wears out the worse it gets, adding a spray on liner paint is also slippery when it’s wet, painting the deck with a sand finish Will help but it will wear out, on the days when it’s wet simply elevating your trailer about two or 3 feet it will lower the ramps, also we used to put wood on our trailer ramp we would purchase the rough saw oak
@michaelbradley8508
@michaelbradley8508 5 лет назад
For grip on the ramp, go to your paint store and you will be able to purchase paint that has 'grit' (e.g. small stone and sand) in the paint. Alternatively you can paint on glue on the ramp and sprinkle on small stone/sand on the wet glue. This can be re-applied as it wears.
@BigGary79
@BigGary79 5 лет назад
If slipping is the only concern, I'd try the skateboard/non-skid tape first. It's way cheaper. The huge benefit with the bed liner is it will also help prevent dents, dings and scratches, which is bound to happen with a dump trailer. Either way, that trailer is REALLY nice.

I used a spray on bed liner on my trailer but after time it started tearing. Pretty expensive for that I think it cost me $500 then I used 3m sandpaper like tape. That didn’t last long at all
@peterkoster5053
@peterkoster5053 5 лет назад
Just my 2 cents. 3m traction tape would be easy because you just clean it and apply it and you get to keep that nice green powder coat, but if you weld expanded steel on you will need to re spray the gate anyways so then you could do a expanded steel with a very rough grit bedliner, not smooth. In my opinion both would work and most places warranty their bedliners. Also on a side note I see the backhoe bucket dragging. I see that the trailer hinges near the back so tilting it wont help, but what if done with car haulers is iv driven the rear axle of my truck on a ramp or a few 2x12s and then the back of the trailer becomes lower. Also noticed you have stands on the back of your trailer to keep the rear of your truck from lifting keeping it from possibly pushing the truck, but 4x4 and park break can also be applied as an extra safety measure. Hope this helps.

Went I had boats and I would have to repaint he decks. I would add a non-slip to the paint. What a non-slip is is sand, you can add a light amount or heavy amount to the paint. I would also tape out areas that I would want to paint with the non-slip so that I put it where I want it. The good thing about this is you can pick it up at Home Depot in the paint Dept and you add it any color of paint you want. It is like putting down the non-slip tape but in any color outher then black.
@jj1479

Tim, Have you tried loading jonny when that trailer is on flat pavement? I seen how the backhoe digs into the dirt about 2" an was wondering how bad it will scratch up the paint an the asphalt/concrete? @scottwarrington3737
@scottwarrington3737 5 лет назад
Since your weekend warrior type contractor, there is no reason why you can use the stick on sandpaper to the trailer's tailgate. If it wears off, replace it again. The stuff weights nothing, doesn't add any height. Spray on box liner is still slippery when wet, also will have to rough up the paint for it to stick properly. That is one awesome trailer you have, so jealous.

I tried spray liner one for ramp traction and essentially accomplished nothing. Just as slippery when wet. Personally I would fabricate an expanded metal grate (or two) that you can pop on and off. They wouldn’t weigh much. A 4’ x 2” runner for each tire would work nicely, add a little bracket to pop them into.
