Tacoma TRD PRO 2018 Grill Install - WITH Sensor!

This Tacoma TRD Pro grill swap was filmed over the course of a few months to make sure everything was working and the TRD Pro imitation grill didnt fall apart and the sensor would keep working. Honestly the 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro grill worked fine without the garnish EXCEPT for when it was rainy or snowy, and the sensor got wet. Then it would stop working until everything dried off and got cleaned. Not a super big deal if you dont like the shiny-ness of the grill cover.

2 things. The shiny garnish that goes over the radar sensor has 2 "star" clips that hold the top in place and 2nd, you can use Xpel Stealth film to put over that shiny part to make it matte finish. Looks much better.

I have a 17 sport, i ordered the very same grill, the stock crome one looks terrible, and to have it added durring purchase.... it would have added $600 to the final price and 2 days to wait for service to install the Pro grill.

For the Garnish cover there are OEM clips that go over top two pegs so that it doesn't come forward like that

If I could give you more than one thumbs up I would. I just followed your video to the T" I have a 2019 Tacoma w/ the Toyota symbol and following your video I was able to install the new Toyota lettered grill, the same 1 that you have. I purchased the sensor in advance so once I received it I already took out the pieces and yes, just like yourself, it's like they welded them in there so I had to break off the plate to replace w/ the sensor cover. everything is in place & on point. Again I would give you more than 1 thumbs up if possible. You're awesome Now I'm going to see you posted a "HOW TO VID" on installing the 30" LED light along the bottom of the new grille thank you

still have my factory grill on, and driving today the sensor stopped working because it got covered in snow and slush. wiped it off when i stopped worked like nothing happened. Havnt had it in the rain yet though.

I did the pro grille mod with raptor lights from Runnin 4 Tacos. Their garnish isn't very good. I keep getting TSS errors. I will try another garnish at some point.

I bought a 2017 Grill for my 2018 Tacoma. Behind the toyota emblem there is no place (Mount) for the sensor. Could the mount from the 2018 insert come out to add to a different grill insert?

Great video - really helpful - the OEM sensor cover is the way to go, I used the fake one and the collision sensor kept turning off randomly. The OEM cover has a nice plastic glaze which seems to do the trick!

@@michaelmorgan330 I actually bought the OEM TRD Pro grill (400 bucks) and the fake sensor cover initially (35 bucks). I think the knock-off grill's on Amazon (120 bucks) comes with the letters for you to stick on.

Hey zack Inside that Toyota emblem there is thin layer of material that helps focus radar cruise sensor beam that's why it's a shiny finish on the face.. your replacement cover looks like it should have the radar beam material .. cut open the emblem and see for yourself.. I cut open a Toyota Prius emblem and I'm sure it's the same for the Tacoma.. without the proper emblem you will notice that it detects cars in the lanes next to you.. what's the proper emblem the sensor will only detect the car in front of you like it's supposed to

Hey Zack, you can change halogen bulbs to HID bulbs. It will give more light on the road. Specially when off-roading.

Zach, are you able to jerry rig your own sensor cover?? There must be a way where you can use the old cover and somehow seal it from the back so it still has the honeycomb look. I just bought the grille for my Inferno Tacoma so I’m hoping it looks mean!

I have heard with having a lift and the TRD Pro grille that you may experience the instrument cluster light up with a Christmas tree. I know you said you had some issues without the plastic piece and then again for a few days after that. Since then have you had any issues with your sensor. I have an off road and am looking to do the same thing and want to know if it’s worth it before I do. Thanks. Love the videos

I think the $100 price for the pro grill is great because for $400 or so you can get some really nice custom steel grills instead of the stock toyota one. Personally I came close to purchasing a cheap pro grill but its like every tacoma I see now has one so I just spent the extra money and got a steel custom grill. So far everyone loves it and I'm the only person I've seen with one in my area.

you can probably just sand that glossy portion of plastic in front of the radar, although water might have a harder time beading up and rolling off when stopped, not sure.
