I just bought a 2022 Ridgeline and am very impressed with how it rides and runs. Its a super solid ride and greatly functional. I drove all the midsize trucks and none of them came close. I dont do major off roading, I just travel old farm and gravel roads. It is more than capable of towing a camping trailer and a boat. That is all i need.
The specs for the top model Ridgeline are insane. Built into the bed are 6 weather proof speakers, a cooler with a drain plug with slots for separating beer from food, and a power outlet for a tv. This is a tailgating/camping dream truck. Not to mention the Honda Tent fits a Queen sized air mattress and comes with zippered access ports for the cooler, back window and power outlet. You can even fit a 4x8 Sheetrock flat because the beautifully engineered bed is flat. And did I mention it has a dual action lockable tailgate with free crayons and coloring books 😂
The "not a real truck" people are insecure snowflakes. What is the definition of a truck? is body-on-frame a requirement? WHY? Once upon a time, all cars were body-on-frame. Does that mean every single modern car is "not a real car??" LOL.
@@ScotWithOnet Trucks do have to be body-on-frame if you want to use them like a truck. Body-on-frame trucks have a higher towing capacity, higher payload, better off-road capability, and larger beds. My 20 year old F-150 can tow better than a new Ridgeline or Maverick. Unibody trucks are great for people who want to own a truck, but they don't need the capabilities of a truck.
The Ridgeline is hideous! And Japanese looking! That’s the main reason people hate it. I’d never buy one of those things, but the Maverick is good-looking. The Maverick is very affordable, which has many people excited for it.
Andre is RIGHT! The interior space and width of the Ridgeline (and Pilot, passport) is something you'll appreciate, but won't realize it until going back to smaller or normal cars.
My wife has a Honda Pilot (she allows me to drive it once in a while) with the same drivetrain as the Ridgeline, I have to say I,m not surprised with the results we’ve been very impressed with the power and rock solid reliability
Go Ridgeline! I have the 2021 Black Edition Ridgeline. I absolutely love it! Everyone who says that it is a car with a truck on top, is wrong. The new 2021 has changed completely. I had a 2020 Chevy Colorado Z71. I had the manufacture "buy it back" because it turned out to be a lemon. In the 7 months that I owned it, it was in the shop for a total of 94 days and it only had about 3K miles! I have now had my Ridgeline for 7 months, and it has been in the shop for "0" days! It now has over 5K miles. I am very happy with this purchase.
I have a 2019 Black as well with 105k km. Zero engine problems so far. Just had its timing belt replaced. Looking forward for more road adventures with it
After owning one for over a year I'd describe them as 1. Comfortable and 2. Convenient, always a pleasure to bomb a back road or run to the store with space for the mulch 😂
@@kjrehberg he means it's not structurally the same since the other three are body on frame built for taking a beating but nobody use's vehicles like that so it's pointless
The Ridgeline has practically, it rides smooth, and it's quite in the cabin I think I'll be checking it out soon as I'm going to be shopping for a mid size truck the Ridgeline and the Colorado are the ones in mind right now
Judicial, + the Ridgeline will never be in the shop for repairs, + the Ridgeline gets much better fuel economy, + the Ridgeline handles better in deep snow, on hard pack, ice, slush, + the Ridgeline rides, drives & handles with better precision, and best of all is the resell/trade-in value.
@@huetuber1204 😂 it cant be that thats how I feel tho? It has to be that I heard that and regurgitated it? Whatever floats your boat man .still not a truck tho .
The Jeep Gladiator is one of those cars that actually feels faster. It’s the shift to third that slow the 0-60 time. The sensation on road is pretty quick. Thanks
There’s a reason the Gladiator still is not crash tested by the IIHS. Take a look at the Wrangler and remember how long it took for those results to be released. Most crash test results are within the first model year.
What about this article which says “Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Test Results The 2020 Jeep Gladiator received the highest score of “Good” in many crashworthiness areas, including side, roof, and head protection. It did not do well in small overlap front driver side testing. In this test, it received a “Marginal” rating from the IIHS. In the crash avoidance and mitigation testing, IIHS gave the headlights a “Poor” rating across the board. It gave it a “Superior” rating in front crash prevention in vehicle-to-vehicle accidents and a “Good” rating in the ease of use of the LATCH child seat anchor system.”
Well I knew from the title before watching that the two fastest the Gm twins and the Ranger were not there, then be default the Ridgeline becomes the fastest, unless it is a trick question, I remember C&D saying the Frontier was the fastest of any truck, as in it had the highest top speed before the governor kicks in.
No different than when you read a news article and half the comments on are the title and not the content that they didnt read. Gets irritating after the 5th or 6th one. lol
Interesting. I actually think the gladiator is the ugliest of the bunch. In fact, I think it's the ugliest truck period. Okay, the cyber truck might give it a run for it's money.
Yea I was thinking that too, I wouldn’t consider the Tacoma’s interior dated at all. My buddy has one and every time I get in it I can’t help but appreciate how nice I think it is
I saw one too. And I always think a midsize truck is a great option to replace my half ton, but then I see one in person and the bed is ridiculously tiny and the interior narrow. As for the Taco, have you sat in one? It's pretty awful, and that V6 needs to get replaced.
I test drove one of the new frontiers and it was great, except the brakes were not very good. Curious if anyone else had a similar experience? Compared to the tacoma feels like I'm trying to stop a heavy duty full sized truck
Gas prices are getting crazy again i hope the top auto makers start making small trucks again a real small compact 4x4 with a small v6 and 4 cyl options
I love my Ridgeline. I checked out all the competition with the exception of the new Frontier and I am happy with my decision. It suits my family and I's everyday needs just fine!
I think it is perfect for most people who buy a truck. I just got my Ford Maverick and I will be honest it is a really neat little truck. I hope more companies make smaller trucks again.
I've had one for a few months and I love it. I really like how the back seats fold up and give you a nice flat area for storage. It's really great for groceries on a hot summer day when you don't want your frozen foods melted by the time you get home.
I had the Tacoma and loved it . Just didn’t care for the power on it . I work for Honda & love the comfort and quality of it . Great job guys! Btw I’m driving a new Passport and love it . After I buy my house I’m getting the baddest full size truck and I am definitely looking for your input. ZR2 Silverado ?
I was surprised how 'slow' the Frontier was. But when you look into it, the Frontier is as heavy as a base model crew cab F150 lol. Even the now-segment old boy Colorado is over 300lbs lighter. Even the ZR2 is lighter and an SV crew cab 4x4 Frontier. The next closest curb weight is the Gladiator and it's 150lbs lighter too. I think Ridgelone is the lightest of them all. The Ridgeline update looks great, but they NEED to ditch those ridiculous fender flares haha. Scale them down to 50%. Same with the black plastic rockers. That plastic trick may work on a crossover to make it look 'rugged' but this is nasty
The curb weight makes the Tacoma the lightest per info available on Edmunds and the trucks' respective websites. The Tacoma has a curb weight range of 3915-4315lbs, to the Hondas 4436lbs. The Taco shown here should have a curb weight of about 4255lbs, depending on options, but even the heaviest Taco is still over 100lbs lighter than the Honda, which is the second lightest.
I think most of that weight is due to the fully boxed frame... which is "shared" with the full size titan (which is why titan swaps are so popular and easy to do)
The Honda is a very nice truck. They ride great, tow well and carry a hell of a lot of crap. The trunk below the bed make it a great choice for most people. Great video gentleman.
@@doylee469 so 2wd trucks are not trucks either? Think your getting off-road truck and pickup truck confused. Tundra and Tacoma are trucks even though they can’t carry the weight the ridgeline can.
@@doylee469 for $300 I added the 2” front 1” rear lift/level kit and 265/60r18 tires… ground clearance is now 10.25”… still rows 5k with ease and Carrie’s 1400+ lbs. Enough room for 5 adults and the lockable storage in the bed is without question a great thing to have. Also… has the widest and longest bed in the crew cab short bed midsize truck arena. Let’s also not forget it is the best in inclement weather due to AWD. Will it compete with full size trucks HELL NO, will it compete with the taco or Gladiator for serious off-road NOPE. will it do truck stuff better… yup!
Yet it's a best-seller, ever wonder why,? because judging a vehicle's worth in its 0 - 60 performance is what kids do not someone who just needs to get things done.
@@KingJahTheSecond I’m a self-identified Toyota fanboy and even I know the new engine and transmission is garbage, not to mention they’ve felt cheaper and cheaper since moving production to less ideal places. If your Toyota is built outside of the U.S. or Japan, I’d reconsider.
You guys keep driving the "ridgeline is not a truck" nonsense. Every ridgeline review you constantly tell viewers that it is not a truck! I own one, it's a truck. lol.
He didn't state that the taco was the fastest truck. He said "We now know which of these four, (well, not the 4runner, the tacoma), is the fastest truck."
@@gwlane5509 Ranger's built like a tuna can compared to the Frontier and the Taco. Rides like garbage too. Only good thing about it was its powertrain, which I have to admit felt the best in the segment. I daily drive a '19 Taco and can tell you the Frontier is just better. Way quieter, rides/handles way better, powertrain feels better/none of the Taco's transmission jank, usable backseat, and a seating position that doesn't destroy your back.
Id consider the ridgeline, but it has too many annoyances (adaptive cruise shuts off at 25 mph, bed depth under the tonneau cover is less than a foot and a half) and interior tech looks like it’s straight out of 2008. Honda can do better, and currently does in other vehicles, idk why they dont modernize the RL more
@@mct8888 I completely agree with tou on the wireless CarPlay, but I actually really like the arm rests. I have a lot of back issues after falling down a ladder in the Navy, and the arm rests help me take weight off my back when driving. Besides, our little ankle biter dog is able to sleep on the flat center console.
Should've included the Chevy Colorado because it's actually the most powerful in class if you opt for the factory "power package", which is a cold air intake and catback exhaust (forum guys seem to estimate it'll add like 10-15HP). Seeing as this is an OEM, from-the-factory option, I think including it is valid.
That’s a dealer installed deal, just like Ford has a FP performance package and tune for the Ranger. I’m sure Jeep has a Mopar performance catalog too, probably also Toyota and soon to be Nissan for their trucks as wellz
I think they said somewhere else they were at an event and these were the manufacturers who agreed to participate. Ford, Chevy and Rivian declined to participate.
At the end, they did specify Ranger, Colorado, and Rivian (sp?) declined to participate at the showing. Would have been nice to see them in comparison, though.
I love my ridgeline. And choose it over the a new tocoma because I needed a everyday diver that is comfortable on long trips with more room because I’m 6’3. Plus the interior is simple and easy to clean and just less to worry about. I also knew it’s faster then the tocoma having driven one. The Honda had me sold a long time ago and after the warranty expires I’m hopeful going to make a bad ass turner out of it with a twin turbo mod. I’ve bee man ahuge fan of Honda for decades and I want to show the world how they are different.
You can get a Ram tradesman 1500 classic quad cab 4x4 v6 with lots of extras for less than all these midsized trucks here mine cost 39 k 😀 and it tows more and rides better up to you I guess 😉
@@cup_and_cone I thought they were based on the Honda Passport or Pilot? If it is based on the Odyssey, then maybe they'll update the Odyssey to have AWD to compete with Toyota's Sienna.
Parked next to an 90's Hardbody in my 2020 Ranger last week and it absolutely dwarfed it. Definitely a tighter fit down trails compared to 93 Hardbody I owned.
We’re you going downhill to get a 9 second 0-60 with that hardbody? I owned a 92 v6 hardbody and raced my wife in our 2020 Colorado with it and I felt like I wasn’t moving🤣 she didn’t even floor it. Fun truck none the less. Cornered like a car.
That jeep is cool but I drove the 21 4 runner your right I get weird in the seat I paid for 16 highlander I wish it 4wd nut I love it and most importantly can afford it
Andre is the man. All the trucks are nice and the Honda Toyota and Nissan can last 200,000 miles or more. Pentastar makes good power and is a fun engine until it has its major breakdown.
Notice they knew the Ranger would make quick work of them all so they didn’t provide one to you for testing. It may not be great everywhere but the ranger is fast.
The Keeps ad always makes me laugh, you guys have the young guy with great hair doing an ad about hair loss product, LOL. Credit to Kase though, he did a good job presenting.
Roman it’s like calling a crossover a suv when it’s not. Truck is a body on frame SUV is a body on frame Crossover is a unibody The ridge line is a crossover with a bed. We need to stop changing the meaning of words and understand for what it is.
That is your personal definition of a truck to fit your narrative that unibody can't be named trucks. Especially when you find out that can do many things better than a equivalent body on frame
MY wife has a 2009 Ridgeline and I own a 1991 Bronco 5.8. The Ridgeline is quite impressive, rides really smooth and very comfortable. Has a somewhat effective 4wd but mainly good for getting caught on the way home from work type of system. Still handles very well in the snow. But like I tell my wife, when the shit hits the fan and you're in a Blizzard time to take the Bronco
The ridgeline is a practical but stylish truck that most people who are realistic can enjoy. It is great for homeowners who don’t tow super heavy items.
Hopefully the frontier is a huge hit and energizes Nissan to bring back their true beast, the Nissan Xterra! Love my pro 4x’s! Love my Xterra, love my Titan!
Hey huge fan here I have watched most of your videos and alot of the midsize truck videos. I know people ask why you drag race midsized trucks but personally I'm very interested in seeing those results. Have you guys ever drag raced a Colorado and a ranger? Personally I think the ranger is the quickest midsize correct me if I'm wrong. Also interested in seeing the frontier race other midsized trucks. Can't wait keep them coming!
The Ridgeline is a solid truck. If the off-road capability or lack thereof is enough for your needs, there isn't much negative to say about it but a lot of positive. Definitely the most family friendly among the mid size line-up. It can actually fit two rear facing car seats without any trouble while being quiet and comfortable. I'd take the Nissan personally but the Ridgeline was on the radar.
Just got rid of my tundra, terrible gas mileage was getting 13-14 highest on the highway was 17. Harsh ride and way to hard leather seats. Felt like a major step backwards from the 4Runner I traded in on it.
@@henrybrar I cannot speak for the Tundra's econ, but my 2017 RTL-T Ridgeline got as high as 29 highway and routinely had 22mpg mixed (I measure routinely, not relying on the dash display). My 2021 I have only had a few weeks, but similar performance thus far after 700 miles. When towing a 3900lb travel trailer I still get 12-15 depending on hills. My results may be atypical with the travel trailer, as I have a bed cap which is reducing frontal wind load on the camper (a 2020 Coleman Lantern LT 17B for reference), as those towing with open beds have reported issues with wind loading. Flat trailers up to 5000lbs are no issue for it whatsoever and returns that 15mpg number with them. Don't take my word for it though, check this video from last week by Truck King, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7BQjZUivB9o.html in which they test performance with a 5k trailer behind the Honda. Spoiler, with the 5k behind it, it still had a faster 0-60 than full-sized trucks with the same 5k behind them, despite their larger engines/hp and towing ratings.
I don't know why people say things like I have a 5000lb trailer and the Ridgeline wasn't enough truck.... Dude... that much weight and more, then you need a full size truck. Any midsize "might" advertise 5 or 6K towing but you need a longer, heavier vehicle or you're squirming all over the road... the trailer is towing you! Not saying you are, but others often compare the Ridgeline to a full size competitor.... not a fair judgement.
Ok guys so where are the Ranger an GM Twins? In my Colorado Crew Cab 4x4, V6, came stock with 308 hp 271 lbs ft. TQ. Then I added a K&N CAI, in all black polymer, plus Borla exhaust. Now before I ran a timed 0-60 run in 7.1 sec. Then I went back with the added intake and exhaust, running without any tune and reg gas I then ran 6.7 sec! That was at a local 1/4 mile dragway in central Florida, called Sebring International Raceway. Where I just happened to be camping just down the road from, three days after installing the CAI and exhaust. So I emptied everything out of my truck an went to see. I was able to make two runs in stock production truck class. I was pleasantly surprised to improve so much with both mods. But the extra noise does get tiring after a while towing. But 0-60 in 6.7 twice, plus a best out of two 1/4 miles at 15.6/96 mph is dam good! Running with traction control off, stability control off at start, plus tow/haul mode activated. Then the next day hooked up to my Grey Wolf 24 JS and drove home.
@@BAYAREAMX actually maybe I should have been more informative, for those who have comprehension issues. I did go back, to the same track, only on a camping trip, to see for myself if there was any difference. So between the CAI, exhaust, taking everything out of the truck, including the spare tire, running on 1/8 gas tank and no tailgate, I saved time, plus gained a bit of speed.
The ECT does nothing for full throttle accelerations. It will shift at the redline whether the ECT is off or on with full throttle acceleration. The ECT will hold a lower gear longer and downshift sooner with normal driving! It’s useful for towing and hauling!
Why do you think? Hint, turbo loses less power. Its forced induction meaning a compressor is shoving air into the intake whereas a natural aspirated engine does not. More compressed air more fuel more power.
The ridgeline may do 90% of what most truck buyers need but it’s also got highest starting msrp out of the entire group (37k). It’s a really cool vehicle but at that price point I’d rather have any of the other trucks. Really interested to see how the maverick does and what other auto makers come out with to compete.
@@jonhernandez3783 Ironically it was one of the cheapest of the group too. Take the nonsense HPD pkg off and the price will go down a few thousands more.
Yeah, the Honda will win that, too. Here is the Truck King video from last week where the Honda, with a 5000lb trailer behind it, got a faster 0-62 mph (0-100 kmh) than a Ram 1500 Tradesman, GMC Canyon AT4, and Ram 1500 Bighorn with the same trailer behind them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7BQjZUivB9o.html The 0-62 times were as follows (12m20s mark in the video) with the 5k trailer: Honda 14.2s, Ram Tradesman 17.8s, GMC 18s, and Ram Big Horn 21.4s. It is a full 3 or more seconds faster than full and mid-sized trucks with equal weight behind them. Yes, those others may have a higher tow ability, but they are not quick with a load.
