Ok Tex-mex is fine but I really appreciate seeing what real at home meals people prepare like this. I spent the last Covid winter experimenting with Mexican recipes. I have to say I make a mean chili Colorado and red enchilada sauce. I love cooking, steaming, blending multiple varieties of chilis for recipes. I’ve also made a larger variety of salsas and sauces. Mexican cooking can be wonderfully complex, the flavors, the ingredients.
I’ve been needing a base recipe. Most people just tell just make tacos and the oil then layer them . But won’t tell us how to make the oil 🤨. So thank you for this. 🥰
Thank you for this recipe.! I'm slooowly working my way through making each type of taco in Taco Chronicles and thanks to you I know which ones I'll be trying next.
Hi Mama 👋. Grandma never made these she just made the regular Mexican ones. The tacos Doritos. But these look good. My mom doesn’t like to cook. So I learned to cook from recipes my mom brought from word from friends. 😬👍😎👍❤️💕😋😋😋😋😋🥰✌️😁. Your method was very easy. Thank you for sharing. ✋
I have a serious question... I'm from South Central Texas. "Papas" is the name we use for everything potato... French fries, Ruffles chips, bits of potato in tacos, etc. Is "papas" a real Spanish word or a TexMex word simply meaning 'there is some potato in here somewhere?'
Turned out pretty perfect my 1st try. Tortillas ripped a bit but probably just didnt use enough oil or didnt have the heat up high enough. Also was my first time using corn tortillas instead of flour so idk. 10/10 recipe.
We were driving in Los Angeles east la and there’s small stands with signs for tacos de canaste we didn’t know what that meant and we’re Mexican! Thanks for the video it was cool. I think my mom grew up eating this way they rarely had meat she’s 80 and in great health eating simple like this but now we Mexicans have way more meat bigger portions and food food food a lot of it processed and we are officially the unhealthiest country in the world.
Tacos de canasta are all over Mexico. They are the most cost-effective tacos, costing 1/3 the price of the meat tacos. Because they're not reliant on the premium proteins. So, you find them set up for workers, quite often, who need something to get them through the day. I've only ever seen them sold in groups of three. There's always at least a few tacos de canasta set ups in wealthy areas.
Why do use grapeseed oil? I've never tried it & growing up my mom would only use corn oil...I'm curious how it would taste🤔 Thanks for the recipe❣ I had tacos like these once in Mexico and they were the best I have ever eaten🤤 I always wondered what the name of them were!
I could practically smell your tacos cooking and my mouth was watering. While I was living in San Antonio, Texas, I'd find the best taquerias. There was also "The Mighty Taco" in Buffalo, NY. Taco Bell? - Meh! I love tacos, but I have to admit, making them myself takes too much time and clean-up. I guess I'm lazy!
When you add the phrase "De Canasta" it makes it sound like something special, they are nothing more than flat greasy tacos. This makes it easier for street vendors to carry, if you don't mind having grease run down your arm when you eat them.
Today I bought the ingredients to make your home made chorizo, am cleaning my sun-dried red chile pods (20 lb. Bag from a local farmer) as I watch this. Many thanks for this recipe! I'm curious as to what you keep on-hand in your fridge, such as salsas, etc., to be used for various recipes during the week. God's blessings to you and your family 🙏🏻
