Gilbert's actual name was "Raymond" ("Gilbert" was his STAGE name) so Clair called him "Uncle Ray" because he was considered a close family friend (she was probably encouraged to call him that by either her dad or Gilbert himself) BUT they weren't ACTUALLY related. Gilbert was even trusted to babysit her. It's horrible. Her father had to have been a creep too because he couldn't have been THAT oblivious. There's no way he could've been THAT naïve without Clair being born with an extra chromosome or two.

Actually, that song is about a guy trying to reunite with his daughter, who’s mother is his ex. “we were pulled apart because her mom did not agree, And tore apart our happy home in Memphis, Tennessee” I can see how it could get misconstrued, but it’s definitely not pedophilic.
