One thing I always liked about Bayern is how the club is run mostly by former players. Like, Oliver Kahn is arguably one of the club's biggest legends. After he ended his career he studied business administration and now he became a board member and will replace Rummenigge as chairman of the board within the next few years. With him, they started the transition in management from the old guard, (Hoeness, Rummenigge, etc.) who were players in the 70s and 80s and ran the club for the past 20 years.

This was a huge surprise to me I took a quick two hour nap woke up found the game 8-2. I did not expect Barcelona to win but the way Bayern killed Barcelona was hard to watch.

They always only need a coach, who allows it to them and don't make to much tactics mismatch to prevent it. There is one important part: defense middle field. Remember 2014 world cup, Neuer was great, Muller was great, but Schweinsteiger won the game against Argentina. The same here, you need a good defense 6 to win championships. It's that easy and everybody should knew since Franz Beckenbauer.

This what happens when one team is run sufficiently at the top and other is run incompetently. Bayern's starting 11 probably cost less than Griezmann alone and that's truly what's most terrifying. The only team which according to me could give us a fight in our current form is RB Leipzig. I'm not saying this from recent form or anything, but Julian Nagelsmann's Leipzig are the only team which we have not beaten yet in the Bundesliga. Nagelsmann is a brilliant coach with a hungry squad at his disposal. If at all we get an all German final, I assure you that the match will be a classic.

I just don’t get how they let it get to this point. 3 years now that we’ve not made major changes to our squad. Messi, Pique, Vidal, and Suarez are 33 years old and we don’t really have any replacements for them yet. The irony is Setien's strategy was spot on, compared to his La Liga outings. That Bayern ripped him apart is testament to my issues with Spanish teams. Very few of them now have the quality to expose the big teams and force them to improve.
Setien's strategy was terrible and the scoreline proved it. We were supposed to play an exhibition knowing we weren't favourites. We could have been versatile in attack but no... Setien instead chose to play Vidal instead of Puig or Griezmann. Dembele would have had a field day with that terrible Bayern defense with his pace. Messi couldn't do much because he's too much of a threat that has to be neutered.

And Pique's experience helped us if nothing else. With the ball he wasn't good like he normally is but without the ball he was the only defender we had some hope from.
As a barca fan there's alot from Bayern that we can learn. A) Don't park the bus. B) Don't think you've won because you haven't seen winning yet. C) Don't for a second think just because you score a point on them they won't retaliate. Bayern aren't meek. And like some other comments pointed out they're young, and what flick has done with the players and their mentalities is nothing to scoff at. Even though we lost 8-2 and being memed to kingdom come we can see how young players can prevail and how older players can use their experience as a backbone for the team. Remember that bayern's entire team is no older than 23 (I think). Is there any way of stopping them? Possibly if you catch them on the flank with a young pacey player than you could possibly do some damage but a serious upset is going to have to take place to stop thier tyranny.
Bayern is literally the only top club of the world who doesn't have either high debts or a Russian/Arabian/American sugar daddy. Also they have way less transfer expenses within last 10 years than any other top club. Until last year, their highest transfer expense on a single player was 42 million Euro. Other clubs paid more over 20 years ago. Bayerns success is 100% selfmade. Barca, Juve, Real has high debts. Chelsea, City, United, Red Bull, Milan etc. has some sugar daddy who gives them money. And still, Bayern can compete.
Bayern is a team and not a bunch of overpaid legends. Hansi Flick could replace any of his players by another one and they will still win. A team doesn't rely on indoviduals.
Besides the tactics advantage over Barcelona, Bayern players also presented an impressive physical performance. FMS, can I supplement your notes with some of mine? Semedo clearly had the instruction to go high and attack. In the first minutes Semedo was reaching the gk's area and Messi looked to find him with through balls (and in general they were playing vertical football in their effort to take advantage of Bayern's high defensive line and they also used some good switches of play). Roberto was used in order to take Semedo's place when the latter was advancing. But I think it really backfired. They got confused and they didn't know who is the actual RB. I think this confusion is clear in Perisic's goal + when Roberto lost the ball he lifted his head in disbelief for a fraction of a second and he didn't run as soon as he could to recover the ball and then Pique was alone vs two and we know the rest. Bayern targeted Semedo for some reason. Not only countless goals were scored because of Semedo's bad positioning and his mistakes, but it also led to a huge chance that Coman could have scored. Semedo's defending vs Davies' run that led to Kimmich's goal wasn't terrific either. Lewandowski played as a wide striker at some points of the game and managed to dispossess Semedo many times. The same happened to Messi. That right flank of Barca seemed very vulnerable and, I don't know, void? Every time a Barca player moved with the ball from the right flank and reached close to the halfway line, he had no options and inevitably lost the ball. From there Bayern's good transition play led to goals. Roberto subbed off with the start of the second half but despite the fact that it was Griezmann that was introduced, he also played as a midfielder. Setien changed basically nothing in his tactics and he still wouldn't do it no matter how many goals they could have conceded. It is characteristic that they made only 2 subs. Messi was playing centrally all the time, while the area where he was playing was very crowded. Thiago was quite physical against him and he managed to erase Messi, but I admit I didn't like that. Messi did find some spaces, though. I expected that he would be better guarded and suddenly I saw him starting a run from the halfway line through the middle and going all the way to the area where he tried a sort of weak shot. Messi was in a bad day and the whole situation didn't suit him. It was such an easy night for Bayern. It isn't supposed to look like this in Champions League, the biggest stage of European club football, let alone in the knock out stages. In conclusion, Semedo had a horrific night -and the trick with him and Roberto didn't really work, but the same can be said more or less about all of Barca's players and definitely for Setien. None of them looked like they were up to the challenge, while Bayern was just very good and I agree with everything you said about them: the versatility of the front 4, the mobility of Lewa, the incredible pressing, Thiago's freedom, Goretzka's runs.

As much as I dont like Bayern München, Hansi Flick is to be admired. Long time shadow coach of Löw, he can finally show who was the major driving force of Germany's national team improvement in the early 2010s and its decline after Flick left.

Tbh Messi was the biggest problem. Because he doesn't pressure players, and bayern punished them through this. Bayern was so comfortable to play from their left as side because there was only one player that was defending(and was doing a pretty bad job at it) Messi just gave up as soon as Bayern scored their 4th goal. I pointed out on a different video that the moment when Davies got the ball prior to the fifth goal, Messi was trying to pressure him which involved him running around Davies in a half-circle, not even making contact, then watching Davies run away with the ball after Vidal(?) failed to get the ball from him. Even though Davies was stumped a bit due to Vidal hitting him, in the space of 3 seconds he was 15 meters away from Messi already since the latter just opted to finish his sorry excuse of a tackle by slowing coming to a halt as opposed to get in there and steal the ball from the then-recovering Davies. If the game was 4:0 in favour of Barca, while he had done two goals and an assist already, I would just say "ok, screw that", but in that situation Barca was two goals down while he, the best or second best player depending on who you ask, is too damn arrogant to even consider putting an effort into a simple ball recovery. Mate, you're down two goals with 30 minutes left on the clock, why do you not wrestle with that youngster for the ball in order to even create a chance?
Man I remember when this channel was still tiny. It took off so fast. I dont even know when that happened. You get these videos out so fast too, really stepping your game up. The future for this channel is bright. one suggestion: you seem to focus a lot on indivual players and roles etc but not so much on overall team shape. I'd love to see more of the basics like, did bayern play direct or short, narrow or wide? high tempo or slow and controlled? that sorta thing. basically the tactics youd see in fifa or football manager lol
