Neat video! Not that it would make katana a good choice for yardwork, but I did notice you’re usually striking with the middle/upper middle length of the blade, but the top end of the blade is moving faster, so that’s where you’ll get the most cutting power. That will limit the wobble, as well.

Thanks! I didn't know that. I figured that you'd want to hit in the center of gravity if you were striking an object you were not likely to pass through. I'll have to mess with my swing. Thanks!

Broke: katana VS axe Woke: katana VS machete ASCENDED: *TRIPLE WIELD ALL OF THEM* love your videos, mate.

HahahahaHA thanks! Love the comments - so good. I guess the machete would be lightest, so I'll have to figure out how to wield it with my foot!

@@homeslicesharpening Thanks for the reply, dude! In your opinion, does the Tactana have a good blade length? According to the online specs, the blade is only 20 7/8 inches. It feels just a bit too short for a sword type machete.

@@Vicarious_Heart No problem! The blade length is ok in the areas where I work, because longer blades can limit the swing options in dense brush. But then the way it absorbs shock and the edge thickness and power are not fully ideal. It does not feel like it has optimal swing speed or power for a katana, the emphasis seems instead on tactical style durability. I would not recommend it overall for general chopping, unless you are mainly cutting lots of smaller thickness stalks (Like the blackberry vines that max out at around 1.5 inch diameter which take over land in the Pacific NW - it would be absolutely great balance of speed and power for pokey viney/less thick & woody opponents like that).

I think the Tactana making it through without being Hoodlum-ized counts as a success 😅 Really underscores impact (heh!) of the stress concentrations.

Yeah - that's a good point. They certainly nailed the tempering on this tactana for durability - the thing can flex without bending or breaking, that's for sure.

Also - YAY - no stress risers haha!

Do your work colleagues wonder why you turn up with different knives each day? 😆

Haha so good! Right now I only have one work colleague for doing this stuff (Covid was unkind to our staff team) and he knows me well enough to just snicker quietly. It definitely garners a few jaw drops and/or eye rolls if I walk past the office on my way out brandishing a tactical katana - but they appreciate having the land cleared one way or another haha! Great to hear from you by the way - hope all is well.

Haha - I sharpened and stropped that Katana to 160 BESS originally (it was about a year ago). Imagine if it had been sharpened by you! Then it would have been like 50 BESS and gone straight through those trees, haha - if only you were here locally!

@@homeslicesharpening I don't know if I could have lived up to that, but it's nice to see how you use the Katana with full enthusiasm. I am now working with a Finnish Kiskard knife, incredibly hard material. So far 128 BESS. Have sharpened the knife in the flow shape and will sharpen it again to improve the symmetry of the knife.
