9:40 this is what sells me on it. I have SUCH a DEVASTATINGLY hard time finding turn based games the let me customize my own look to a character and let me build all kinds of different abilities so that i can replay to my hearts content. Everything is always a hero/monster collector or i have a fixed protagonist with a fixed set of equipment so im bored to tears by the end of it if i even make it that far. I'm literally subscribing to you just to view your back log and find more games with this feature.
This is the kind of video I want to watch. The matter at hand is so specific and obviously denotes your authentic nature, which elevates my appreciation for it. :) Great job!
I believe I played this as a demo months and months ago. It was way better than you would think, just based on the demos you can get sometimes on steam.
Hi ! I don't really understand those "retro style pixel graphics" games (I find lot of them on Steam). I mean, I didn't played them 'till they aren't "retro style" anymore (I'm 50 by the way), but isn't it better to play beautifull ones ? I really like this kind of games, but the graphics here make me leave this one... Is this just a matter of taste ? Or for low PC configurations maybe ? I don't critize, I assure, I just ask because I think I'm missing something about those graphics choices. Nice review otherwise.
Diff strokes. For me and many people, gameplay > graphics. There are many games that are graphically gorgeous but fundamentally unfun. And more often than not, art direction is more important than graphics itself. The only thing I probably won't play anymore is 8bit graphics coz it's too restrictive. And the amt of detail folks have done with pixel graphics has improved tremendously. As an example check out chained echoes.
@@warnerlewtv6923 Well, more like "Divinity", "Pillars of Eternity", "Pathfinder" or even "BG3" (not the 3D scenes of course)... But it's may be way more difficult (and so more expensive) to do ?
@@peanutbutter625 Sure, I totally agree with all you say. I just wonder how many players "prefer" the same game with pixel graphics than in "Divinity - Pillars of Eternity - Pathfinder - BG3... like " graphics. There are, probably a lot, but I don't think it's the majority of players. That's why I'm asking myself why do I find so many games with this kind of pixel (or; indeed, 8-bits) graphics in the new games realease.
Story and characters are an element of rpgs though. Gameplay is my primary draw but that doesn't mean "narrative isnt gaming." In the way calling a cell phone a phone seems kinda preposterous in 2024 seeing all it can do gaming has evolved beyong being just a game akin to say Tetris. Or i dunno...hide and go seek. Now im fine with a game that has no narrative. Let me be clear. Unicorn Overlord is my game of the year and its VERY story light. That said i can play a visual novel and have just as good of a time. Vanillaware again with their last game 13 Sentinels released one of the best narratives ever put in a game and the gameplay? Irrelevant. More of a chore than anything. So what happens if you strip a game down until its only story and characters? Depends on who's making it. Might be a piece of shit. Might be masterpiece like Disco Elysium. It's not indicative of anything as a rule.
This is EVERYTHING wrong with gaming. It's not about story or character or choices in the story or dialogue or an immersive world, THAT IS ALL CRAP. It's 100% about INNOVATIVE & IN DEPTH GAMEPLAY MECHANICS, PERIOD. & these horrible reviewers with no critical thinking skills that keep focusing on everything that's NOT COMBAT are sending the message to devs to focus on everything that doesn't matter which is why we keep getting CRAP games that are nothing more than interactive movies. It would be better if this person said nothing at all because everything he's saying is DAMAGING THE GAMING INDUSTRY.
