I’m 25 and a week in as an Oiler/Rigger apprentice with a crane rental company. Love your videos. I’m trying to learn as much as I can because I want to be able to make it in this career and provide for my family. I’ve only been on 4 jobs thus far and it’s really hard to learn on the go, as it’s pretty fast paced. So your channel is a great platform for me to learn. Love how you threw in the hand signals too. Keep em coming sir!

Just found your channel. Like your videos. I ran cranes years ago (I'm 78, long since retired). Most were crawlers, and some self propelled rubber tired, with the counter weights permanently installed. How about a short section on installing the counter weights??? We see them being off-loaded from the dolly or support semi, but never installed. Would be interesting.

This 74 year old kid just got alerted to your channel by his 45 year old son (kid) . As engineers, we both find your channel fascinating. Please show how the slewing part of the crane connects to the c’weights after it places them on the non- slewing deck. If I have missed this part, please give a link to it.

walter mattson, we try to fuel at the shop. However, there are times that I have to stop for fuel. I just pick the closest place with diesel. The crane is pretty maneuverable. Thanks for watching! 🙂

Definitely fall into the over 35+ year old kid bracket ... good videos. Work in the UK construction industry myself, so been around plenty of mobiles operating (incl. an LTM1500 last week) and one thing I'd like to ask. Why do you use a boom dolly? In europe mobiles travel with the hook forward of the cab.
@ToTheTopCrane
@ToTheTopCrane 5 лет назад
Ruairidh Munro, in the states, we have to spread the gross weight out over more axles in order to meet the bridge laws. I wish we could travel everywhere without the dolly. Many thanks for watching! 🙂👍

why isn't the top of the pins for the counterweights spherical or at least conical so that you don't have to fight too much to thread the needle?

Do you always take a person to give you signals. It's difficult to trust someone you don't know to do it. I've run machines to assemble equipment and many people are very poor at giving directions or even staying in a position where you can see their directions. There are also people who only look at one location and don't keep track of things that get in the way in other places. I preferred to get directions via voice or radio so I could ask questions. With a radio, you could have told you helper to leave that switch hooked up. Cameras are also very helpful like watching your spool, boom tip position and one looking down from the boom tip.
@ToTheTopCrane
@ToTheTopCrane 5 лет назад
Tired old mechanic, anytime our big cranes are out, we have an oiler with us. They are also rigging/signal person certified. We don't always have radios with us. I have cameras on the drums. No where else though. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍

@@ToTheTopCrane I suspect that OSHA will soon require video recording devices on all cranes. There are too many unsafe operators. Have you seen the Sonetics headset radio systems? Plaza Towing has a set in a couple of videos.
