I found you through a comment you made on Letsdig18. Your user name looked interesting and after viewing some recent videos I don't regret clicking on it. This channel is going to be good.
Same here. I was certain I had seen you comment on other videos I have watched. I mainly noticed because you were never demeaning or rag on people. I wish you success.
You are absolutely right about learning a skilled trade and being willing to bust your hump. I spent 35 years in the commercial HVAC service industry and worked with lots of crane operators. Never lost a finger and loads always made it “To The Top”. Thanks for what you do. College educations are are great if you want to be a doctor, engineer etc., but most liberal arts degrees don’t come close to the income level that a skilled tradesman can make. May not be for everyone, but I enjoyed going to work every day knowing that my work benefited people in a tangible way. Boom up!
I spent some time recently in Raleigh watching a Liebherr LTM 1400 working on a hospital renovation project. I was in awe of the skill of the operator as he placed some huge pieces of equipment with such precision and ease, usually without being able to see what he was doing. Excellent first video and I'm looking forward to learning more about cranes and how they work.
Haha I got such a kick out of your Prius comments. I drive high speed aluminum tubing (airline pilot). I have a buddy who owns a construction company and I help him move equipment around with my Ram Diesel and a 22 foot tilt trailer. In the Seattle area if someone pulls right in front of you or doesn’t yield it invariable is a Prius. We installed Kline air horns on all of our trucks to wake people up haha! Great video, I am now following your channel.
Many, many thanks! "High speed aluminum tubing"! LOL! Love it! I've never heard it referred to that. But, I'm stealing it and giving it to my pilot/loadmaster friends. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
I finally got caught up with most all your videos. Now I can concentrate on the new ones as they come out. Really enjoying the content, especially the repair work. They are way fortunate to have an excellent operator and technician too!
20 years with the railroad, I've spent my share of time in cranes. Nothing this large though. Much respect for what do everyday. I inspect and repair freight cars, cleanup derailments, etc. Working around large equipment takes skill and a calm, steady hand. Love the videos. Found you through LetsDig.
A very interesting video. Well done, I would not have guessed it was your first video. Looking forward to your channel. Watching from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺
Love your answers to the questions you often get asked....and I for one most definitely have respect for and give plenty room for extra large vehicles, semi-trailers etc etc, I dont now or ever did pretend to imagine that a 2001 Ford Focus would fare too well vs. your behemoth crame and or support semi. vehicles. She looks good without the caked on salt from the winter roads. Love the content, will be watching more of your vids ! ~Chris~ ( from Elkton, MD)
tommy13t, thank you! I have a few videos that didn't do so well. I just started the whole RU-vid thing in February. So, there has been lots of trial and error with editing and such. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
New subscriber from Iowa here. Seen you comment on letsdig, logger wade, and others and had to come check you out! Slowly going through your videos from start to finish. Good livestream with Wade the other night! Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Keep up the good work!
You have another subscriber tonight. Very interesting video. I hope they keep you very busy using this wonderful machine. Your first video already answered some questions I had, so you are a teaching RU-vidr too.
80’ wow! I get annoyed driving my single axle dump truck with 30’ trailer in traffic. I could only imagine trying to navigate that. I’ll never complain again
Elite Earthworks LLC, it's not terrible. People tend to not want to stay near it. However, there are always a few that feel they have to be right next to it. I suppose it's like anything else. A person just has to get used to how big of a machine it is and what it is capable of.
I like your videos.. you don't come across very many Crane videos on RU-vid.. I Live near Pittsburgh and there are 3 large Crane Companies in around a 45 mile range of each other..
Mike Whipkey, thank you! There are lots of crane accident videos. I wanted to show that operating a crane can be a very rewarding and lucrative career. Hopefully I can spark the interests of some of the younger generation. Many thanks for watching! 🙂👍
To The Top Crane yeah I've noticed that an awful lot of those Equipment Accident videos are from other countries lol.. I would love to see more kids get excited about getting into a career like this! I work on pipelines and a sad fact is most young people now don't want to work.. They want to be paid to play video games and shit.. either that or if you do get them to come to work they can't put their phones down I mostly operate an excavator or a Feller buncher and I've come awfully close to killing a couple before because they are not paying attention
I just discovered your channel and have watched a few of your videos. Very interesting content as I'm kind of a heavy equipment junkie. I'm a farmer from Illinois and completely understand what you are saying about highway traffic. Some of the most stressful situations involve moving machinery on high traffic roads. Stay safe and best wishes.
Nice, just came over from letsdig18's channel as well. That dolly thing is quite interesting, you don't see that here in GER or Europe in general. Maybe it's a matter of oversize length and / or weight, or because of the space required when doing turns on narrow roads. But quite handy if you save an additional oversize transport for counterweights. You did a good job with your first video, will leave a subscription.
Came from Ron Pratts channel I'm a driver for Fremont contract carriers I usually stop in St Joe at the Bucky's for a soda and a snack (it's alot nicer than the raggedy gas station that it replaced) if I see ya on the road I'll give ya a wave It's a very nice crane and a really expensive sounding stereo system that thing must put Bose to shame 😉and I know nothing about jibs blocks etc so this will be a fun channel to enjoy on my 10 hour breaks
john leininger, thanks for stopping in to my channel! If you see me, and I am stopped, don't be afraid to come over and say hi. If you have any questions on anything on my channel, I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Well hello to you good sir. Like many others probably I found you while watching Letsdig18, I've watched a few of your videos already and It's all pretty damn great! Cranes are just fascinating and I mean who doesn't enjoy watching a crane? That and the informative commenting you do just makes it enjoyable and although you said it's not to educate... for me atleast the commenting you do teaches me stuff I don't yet know so thank you for that! Now I wish you all the best with your life, job and your channel and I'll be looking forward to tons more good content!
Awesome content 👍 just started watching your channel. I figured I'll start from your first video. I operate cranes but have no experience with this type of crane so I'm here for the learning as much as the entertainment.
Greetings from the local Caterpillar house up on Pear Street! Nice first video and looking to checking out the rest of them as well as your working exploits around the area. Quick question about the cranes, I see a lot more made in Germany cranes in our area, and at the various jobsites in our area, are they that much better crane or is there another reason for them instead of one made in the USA? It seems that I see a lot of Liebeherr and other German cranes. Anyhow, looking forward to your work videos and come by and see us if there is anything we can do to help maintain your equipment!
matt lee, hello there! I've met you several years ago. My son was in scouts in Savannah, and I worked for Loch back in 2009. Most all A/T cranes are built in Germany. Liebherr, Grove, Tadano, etc. are all built in Germany. Thanks for watching, and good to see you on here! 🙂👍
I knew I recognized you from my travels somewhere! Been looking at some of your other videos and I must say that the job is fascinating. Nice job in showing the rest of the world the job that you do! Moved back into the truck shop recently and I miss getting around the big iron while it's on the job site for sure.
Recently found your channel & love it, instantly subbed, I live In Maryland & work for a welding company next to to crane company’s, I don’t know the laws but they seem to remove the boom totally & have a special trailer it sits on pulled by a peterbuilt
Kevin smith, what they have sounds like a boom launching trailer. They must have a bigger crane or the laws are more strict there. Thanks for watching. 🙂
That crane sure looks like a Krupp. A local company that did quite a bit of lifting for us has a 125 ton Krupp. Krupp was the first, that I know of, to use the towed boom support to spread out the load over a longer area. I know Grove acquired Krupp and Grove is part of Manitowoc. The Todano appears to have DIN[German] hydraulic fittings which I find odd for a Japanese machine. I've worked on a few German machines like Liebherr, Atlas/Terex, Fuchs and Sennebogen.
Tired old mechanic, the A/T Tadano's are built in Germany. I also see the resemblance to Krupp. I'm guessing because Grove, Liebherr and Tadano all build their A/T's in Germany. Our boom dolly was built by Nelson Manufacturing, in the states. Sounds like you have been around alot of neat machines.👍 Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
Tadano bought German crane maker "Faun" and slapped their name on it. It's still a Faun, designed and manufactured in the Faun factory in Lauf an der Pegnitz, Germany and even says Faun all over it in a lot of places still.
Yes you should have more gopro set up in all angle in cab and on boom and away where could see the crane, keep up with your videos and some day I'd like to grow up just like you in a crane lol..
zalmaflash, thank you for coming by and checking the channel out! I haven't been at this RU-vid all that long. So, there are some videos in the mix, where I was experimenting with editing and such. If there's anything you want to see or have a question on, let me know. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
I only have a 22101. One of my "tree-guys" put a Go-Pro on my ball, I knew if I wasn't Dead Smooth, I'd look like a cowboy. That turned into a LONG video! (but it was smooth!) Nice rig! I can only wish.
Thomas Nelson, putting a camera on the ball shows just how much it moves around. Even when you are as smooth as glass. I have a few videos with a camera on the ATB weight or on the block. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
Don't mention it, I was binge-watching for an hour or so. Here's a link to the video I mentioned; yeah I know, I'm "small taters"!. I still try to be the best & safest that I can. @@ToTheTopCrane
@@thomasnelson2463, a crane is a crane. There is no less danger or responsibility in a 10 ton rig than in a 200 ton rig. You may have to email the link. RU-vid tends to filter links out. My email is tothetopcrane@gmail.com.
@@ToTheTopCrane Thank you, I know "a crane is a crane" but I understand that there is a WHOLE different level when you get into the 40+ton level. 200 ton with 330' tip height? I have a 22101 boom truck, I'm NCCCO certified, & safety is #1. Thanks for the kind words. I shot a lot of good video for posting, but when I got my website going, I realized I would be incriminating my best contractors for OSHA infractions. They've been deleted. nelsoncraneservice.com
Amazing for your first ever video sir . Am from uk and used to European equipment but have always wondered why the boom dolly is it for high reatrictions or center of gravity for travel if u have any idea ? Amazing amount of info u made my brain itch with happyness thank you . Ps I found u thru RU-vid recommdetion
Craig Nicholson, thank you! The dolly is to spread the gross weight out over more axles, therefore reducing the per axle weight. Thanks for letting me know how you found my channel. Seems like RU-vid is now starting to put my content out in the mainstream. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Every State in the US has different laws as to the weight you can have on each axle and the distance between axles. They don't want too much weight in a short distance. The dolly makes the combination longer and adds more axles to spread the weight over a longer span. For heavy loads over 40 tons gross, and loads over a certain width or length, most states require a permit.
great video, nice to have the operators of a crane make some video's, when Grove, Leibherr and others make videos they sometimes do it too fast, or when they show us how to assemble these cranes they skip steps or have the operators appendages in the way, so you can't see the pin or knob they are pulling/pushing. one Question: how fast does it take to assemble, ie from road condition to all booms up, and ready to lift?
Derek mc mullan, thank you! Can I ask where you found my channel? I only ask because my channel has been getting alot of views lately and I'm trying to figure out what happened. I didn't know if RU-vid is recommending it? Many thanks for watching! 🙂👍
Finally a crane channel! Never been around a tadano. Doesn’t link belt sell the same model? Like built from the same manufacture? Different dolly design too. It’s unique. Normally I see three or two axle dollies. How do you like the todano vs Liebherr or Krupp? What other cranes does your company have?
Awesome machine. Are those planetary hubs? You almost have a gear for each mph. Urea is ridiculous, they're worried about CO2 that they say is warming us, but they're more worried about soot that just settles. I don't know why folks can't merge. I can be on a desolate stretch of interstate with my cruise set at 5 over and 50% will have themselves at the end of the merge lane with their nose just behind the hitch of my trailer. I guess it's the strange psychology of driving. Great video. Hope you have some nice neodymium magnets for those nice cams!
To The Top Crane guess they decided a high speed driveline was the way to go with 8? wheel steer(my son's Lego has 8 with stationary center lol) and all the other weight savings that go with it. Does it crab? Some things just make sense when you think about em! I've watched a bunch of crane vids and absolutely love your perspective!
Jimmy's Tractor, it is 8 wheel drive and 10 wheel steer. It will crab, round and front steer. It does have a high speed driveline, but with the planetary hubs, it is slow on the road.
Show us a set up of your dolly, my boss wants to buy a bigger crane but doesn't want to commit 2 guys to 1 crane. Would be kinda neat to see what you've got going on
Tyler G, I have an older video of the dolly. I think I have covered almost every system on the crane. Aside from the drive train. But, that will probably happen soon. Depending on the size of crane your boss is going to buy, a two person crew is a necessity. These bigger rigs would be impossible to set up without a second and sometimes a third person. Many thanks for watching! 🙂👍
Great stuff I'm a crane op from Canada. Running a Tadano 130 rt. At a dam site now. Just wondering if there is a state or federal licencing in the states? What is your opinion on this, in Canada we have a red seal program. Thus all journeymen are trained and tested the same from coast to coast.
Mike Borud, thanks for tuning in! How do you like the 130rt? So far, in the states, there isn't a mandatory certification. Most places are starting to require it, and some cities have a mandatory certification process. My opinion on it is....(and this may start a ruckus) I am all for a national certification requirement. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
That certification shit started here in UK over 30 year's ago. We thought it was great cause better job better money and happy ever after. Not true, now you can have an operators card in 2 weeks if you pay your money. You can be working in a shoe store and 2 weeks later you're on a job operating a 100 tonner. Yes it's true and yes it's dangerous!
Thats a super impressive machine. I've got an old 40ton P&H friction truck crane and have a thing for them. I'd really like to hear more about what you go through to move that beast. It has to be a permitted load right?
It is permitted for over length, over width and overweight. I have some videos of it going down the road, if you haven't made it to them yet. "On the road again" is one that does a pretty good job at showcasing it's size. Thanks for following along. 🙂
I got to ask cause I’m curious. When you showed the dash, one thing I was looking for was the Air Brake system (yellow parking brake knob, Duel air gauges, warning light and buzzer). I did not see any. Does this even have Air Brakes or a totally different system? I drove school bus so I look at neat things like that.
Faun German carrier. Tadano Japanese crane. Awesome quality.Salt is enemy. Ruined alot on our older GMK 5120 Grove. We sprayed oil under frame to stop rust.
james norse, that's a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Peanut oil in a pump up sprayer would go a long ways to preserving things underneath. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
I wish I watched this video the first time I checked your channel you I wouldn't have wanted a week or so to subscribe. I like the way you think and talk at 36 I've done just fine lobstering with two and a half years of tree work. hard work can take you a long way. Oh and if you think your the best you have no reason to learn more. Never go that way. I brake for tonnage 😁
To The Top Crane it can be if you let it,it's more knowing you limits and being proactive on maintenance saying something we you see something out of place like the crew feet they get comfortable standing on the rope some times pisses me off. My aunt has a shop and can overnight them if you like Hawkes lobster.com I think you should buy a bunch and help keep the price up for me 😂😂😂
100% Agree on college.. unless you know exactly what career you want and it requires a 4 year degree.. But if your unsure don't get a dog dancing therapy degree.. go to a trade school.. There are a lot of jobs like Plumber, Electrician, machinist that probably pay more than what someone with a 4 year degree makes!
Hey Jimmy yeah I was wrong thinking it was a 120 I was only guessing by seeing one of the cheaters so I know it had to be at least a 120 I watched one of your videos when you were putting a luffing jib in and I was very impressed how you would double and triple checking all of your connections when you were done smart man Safety First
Sycamore Valley Shops, fuel burn is very inconsistent. If I am doing repetitive work, the burn rate can be fairly high (6 or so gallons per hour). If I am doing inconsistent work, I can run for 3-4 days on 50 gallons. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
cam lobe, love your channel name. I am a motorhead too. We have eight cranes. They range in size from 4t capacity to 200t capacity. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
Razorback1360, that is the configuration that we have to use when we travel on the highways. We typically travel with the boom over the front in our local area. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
@@cranedude5847, when I said "local area" I was meaning in our local city. We are allowed to run inside of our local commercial zone without the dolly. However, we can't venture outside of the city limits without the dolly. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
Well I don’t live anywhere near where you do, but here’s what would happen if me in the family managed to see you on the road somewhere. You would see the SUV Roll it’s back window down and you would see a full profile of me because I would be trying to get as close to the window as I could without sticking my head out the window. I’ve only seen one crane like yours driving down the road this one had a Catapillar Engine in it. I always thought your name was cool when I seen you comment on some of the let’s dig 18 videos. I never assumed it was arrogant. i’m just a blind guy who likes heavy equipment. And the first time I Heard that praying with the big cat engine driving down the road I wanted to know more about them. I was coming out of I think a doctors office and then I heard all of the car noise stop and it passed right in front of me.
To The Top Crane Funny thing Jimmy, I found Logger Wade thru Jeff Anderson, "JPAYDIRT", and now you. All people that do, or operate things I have done over the past 32 years myself!
@@ToTheTopCrane Yea man keep it up. There's not many vids like yours. Mainly accident vids lol. Hollar at me if you guys get in on compressor stations. I'm a rig welder
@@qklmike, I hope I never make it into the accident videos. 😳 I realized pretty quickly that I am one of few, and possibly the only crane operator who is uploading videos on a regular basis. Thanks for checking my channel out! All of the people taking the time to watch and comment is what makes this RU-vid stuff fun.
@@ToTheTopCrane I think you'll be fine. You take pride in your trade and that's what it's about. If your proud your less likely to screw up. You guys work good together and I seems like your lifts go as planned unless weather comes in. Keep up the good work
