Good video mate appreciate it, i used the wiring coming off of my old wired thermostat in my hallway which is right next to the router and bridge i had 4 wires in there which went up to the honeywell junction box in the airing cupboard i just rewired the honeywell box as i didnt see any point in having another set of wiring coming out the boiler, i bridged the old thermostat blocks in the honeywell and put the old thermostat wiring to central heating control all working good I've also left my old drayton ip722 timer in place to do the hotwater and can also use the drayton as back up for central heating encase tado servers or internet goes down so we can use manual override.

Excellent video, and instructions. I infer from what you said that I can replace my current system which is boiler, thermostat and programmer by replacing the programmer with the receiver but with the old thermostat can I terminate it or do a pass through with the wires?

Thanks for the great explanation! Question: I now have a BOiler with a wired thermostat. If I turned off the power of the house, instead of opening up the whole boiler, could i not cut the thermostat-wire somewere close to the boiler and then connect that wire to the receiver in the way you described it?

Great video bud and properly wired as well as it's amazing how many people use the mains in terminals for connecting accessories and not the mains out, the idea being when you switch the boiler off all accessories down stream will be isolated. I will draw your attention to the link that you left in between live and hot water, this is the hot water pre-heat and with the link left in the boiler will cycle every now and then to keep the water hot in the heat exchanger so you get instant hot water when you open the taps, if your at work all day this is a bit pointless and a waste of gas. You could take the spare black wire you have and remove the link in the boiler and connect it to the preheat hot water terminal then in the control unit connect the black to the hot water normally open terminal put a link between the live and the hot water common then you can control the hot water preheat from your app like you do with the heating.

Many thanks for this video which I have watched many times before purchasing the Tado. I followed the Tado instructions initially which included linking the HW even though my boiler is a WB greenstar30i similar to yours in the video. My controller mounted on boiler was a RF comfort which I left in situ. On completion I had problem with the boiler not firing up and I had to revert to original installation and reset the controller. Today I removed the controller and wired up as per your video and all is working fine. When I started the install I selected the RF comfort controller and Tado said that the system wasn’t compatible but I then selected green star boiler and all went well. Can I bring your attention to the video at around 24:48 where you connect the purple link . This should be from L to CH COM but on looking closely your link is across the L and N input - surely this would blow fuses being directly across the mains ? Is it possible to use the same cabling thats currently in place for the newer tado boiler control? Cheers!

It’s a Vaillant plus boiler connected to Dataterm IHC (warmworld) system. How do I get about to replace it with Tado?

As I have an old receiver I can just swap it out with the Tado, however there is an earth wire in the old unit, Im wondering if theres somewhere I could put it (other than just crimp-lugging it to wall inside the unit or inside the unit itself) Cheers!

Great Video. I have an Ideal Vogue Max combi boiler which is about 2 years old and is run via Halo thermostat set up. Would I be able to install just the Tado Smart thermostat valves and Internet bridge to some of my radiators without the need of installing the Tado hub? I have read that as long as my boiler is compatible with Opentherm and 240v, my Ideal boiler will work? Can you please advise? Thanks so much, Ian

I would suggest to do extra research on products provided by Tado prior to advising people on how to connect this particular product "Wireless Smart Thermostat". There is a "Wired Smart Thermostat", which is what is supposed to be used for when you already have a thermostat setup in the house on the wall and combi boiler, and it excludes the box that connects to the boiler, just thermostat gets replaced and internet hub attached to router, simpler and cheaper product. This product is required if you have hot water control and have water tank in the house, regardless if you have already a thermostat or not available.

Hi mate, i do have a logic combi ESP1 35KW boiler and replaced wired thermostats from danfoss ones, but i am confused as do I still need a hub to connect it to boiler please, as when temperature is turned down on thermostats heaters are still firing constantly. Do I still need to install the hub please, in order to communicate thermostat with boiler please.

Hi Mate, great video. Have you had any experience installing this Tado wireless thermostat on a Vaillant EcoFit Pure 835 before? Having a nightmare getting mine on so hoping you've managed to get one to work on there?

Very good video. How ever it should be noted that taking off the boiler case ,breaks the seal to the combustion chamber. The law states you have to be Gas safe registered to do this . It should be added that some boilers allow you to gain access to the electric panel . But not the one in your video

The question is, which Tado has not answered satisfactorily, how do you switch the boiler on at the receiver if you need to override the system (perhaps because the thermostat has failed or whatever). There should be a way of bypassing the Tado system and being able to switch the boiler on if need be. Tado support said to use the heating test switch but that only has effect for 2 minutes until test mode is deactivated.

Why did you not just wire the black common to the live terminal in the boiler rather than use the jump wire in the receiver.

The programming seems complex, what i like about the salus it500 is that the app is very simple to use and to program teh schedule is even simpler. You can also control the heating via a portal on the internet from any laptop.

Tado seems to make a "Wireless Smart Thermostat Starter Kit" but when you look at the contents, it has a "Wireless Temperature Sensor" not a thermostat. It's weird because they also seem to sell both items (thermostat and sensor) separately at different prices. They look the same--are they the same item in fact? Put another way, is the Smart Thermostat you installed here actually a Temperature Sensor?

Great video and very useful - just wondering why you opted not to connect the Tado to the hot water connection to have control over the pre-heat function? From reading the manual in your video, it seems that you can control the pre-head / eco function of your hot water from an external device and the Tado does have the right connections on the hot water relay connections. Surely linking the black wire to the HW LR terminal in the boiler and to the HW NO in the Tado, and then adding a linking wire from live to the relay in the Tado would give you pre-heat control from the TADO also? About to do this myself, so just wondering if I am missing something, and would love to know if I am making an incorrect assumption! Thx

Can you explain how it knows that you're using a Greenstar boiler? The Worcester Bosch boilers have their own modulation language, and I want to make sure I get a thermostat that can modulate properly by turning the gas down and not just cycling on and off more frequently.

Did you check or test what happens if you switch off the WiFi? Does it have internal clock to keep the schedule running? Or does the wireless controller doesn't rely on app?

Do you have to disconnect the mechanical timer? What if the Internet goes down? You won't be able to control your boiler.

I love how it’s Bluetooth no matter where I am in the house, I plan on buying more for my other snakes when I can, I highly recommend this! It’s so easy to check it without disturbing her and stressing her out. Only complaint is it’s in military time but otherwise not horrible

its a heating engineer you need to do this sort of work rather than an electrician, they know this stuff better than most sparks and its illegal to remove that boiler combustion cover without gas safe registration!

what a nightmare of a sytem to set up, just spent 3gours trying everything to set it up for the customer, everything was working fine until we connected his phone then it all stopped responding, pairing now no longer works, went theought the instructions 6 times and still nothing, cant be bothered anymore. not impressed!!!

In order to open the outer case of most gas boilers (this one included) you must be Competent to carryout "Gas Work" too at minimum. If your watching this and don't know what that means then the answer is you're probably not. Good video otherwise.

Rather than smack the wall plugs in with a hammer and risk damaging the wall, thread the screw slightly into it and then tap into the wall.
