🔥 This training is performed by professionals and supervised by professionals, do not attempt.
🗣️ all performers in this video are adults, ordinary training, so no one gets hurt.
🔔 This video is for documentary only.
today during the flexibility training class, teachers are helping my classmates and me to do the passive stretching training for flexibility, this is important if you want to dance more elegantly. the teacher asked me to lay on the mats, take a deep breath and relax, then they grab my legs and slowly push my legs to 180 degrees, this is a very effective way to get the middle split despite it is a little painful. so we have been told to shout it out when we feel the pain. because shouting can help we inhale and exhale, which can relax our tighten muscle, can reduce the pain, can let us stick to the end, and gain flexibility.
this is ordinary flexibility stretching training for the professional dancer.
cameraman and editor: Qianqian
camera: iPhone
Declaiming:
Please don't imitate the training in this video by yourself. The students in the video are the professional that have been studying for more than years and teaching under professional supervisor, so they dare to train students like this.
The students in the video are challenging to a higher level of flexibility, so the training of the teachers is more strict. But this kind of training is harmless because the students have already warmed up before the training, the bones and muscles have been totally relaxed, after the training, the students will get the corresponding auxiliary massage to eliminate the muscle pain.
Everyone has limited ability to withstand the pain, so you can see some of the students shouting in the video, and some students are not. but This is good in flexibility training, If it is not painful, that means students have not broken his or her own limit, then he or she will not make progress, and such pain is controllable. also shouting helping them inhale and exhale, relax the tighten muscle, relieve the pain, then they can hold in that position for enough time, that is the goal when doing the flexibility stretching.
the students in this video are all adults, they pay tuition to learn, so they knew what they need to go through, and they recognize the teaching method.

It's time to end the "no pain, no gain" myth. It shouldn't be a painful process at all! Most of our students achieve the splits within 3-4 months with nothing but positive encouragement and frequent stretching challenges in a progressive routine. This type of outdated flexibility training is unnecessary, dangerous, and simply not the best way to reach the goal of the splits.

Back when I was still learning Taekwondo, my coach made me do this once and it hurt like hell. I still remember crying and screaming at him to stop. The pain in my leg took a week to recede. He never did it again, but I held a grudge against him for a while (mostly because he said I was overreacting :/). I can only imagine the pain these kids felt. My one-time painful split training can't even compare to theirs in pain and duration. And they're just kids too... :((

I am a Korean and have attended the Korean Taekwondo gym for more than 3 years. I used to practice splits to make kicks higher, but I practiced as much as I could alone. So did other Taekwondo gyms. However, I am sad that many people have experienced this situation. I think I have a wrong perception of Taekwondo in other countries. I am writing because I hope few people have misunderstanding and trauma about Taekwondo, the proud history of Korea. (This Taekwondo gym is not a Taekwondo gym in Korea because there are other languages written on the uniform.)

Goodness seeing this video brought back memories from my karate class where my senpai used to force us all to hold the splits like this, he would actually make another student stand on our legs when we were doing the butterfly sit to make the knees touch the ground and oof dear god I can still feel the phantom pain, and this was like 6 years ago💀. When I told my mum about this cos she noticed I couldn't even walk or sit without taking a break, she was absolutely horrified. My mum was a sportsperson too, and she didn't raise my brother and I to be pain intolerant or run away from harsh circumstances, and she was all for pushing the boundaries. Even she found this teaching bad and took it up with the master to stop forcing the kids like this. There's a difference between testing the limits and putting someone in potential danger. I wanna say that while this method could be beneficial in the long run, it's not exactly healthy. While the teachers have experience teaching students like this, everyone's body is different and forcing children to learn these splits this way is totally wrong, and it will only put them off from trying to practice the splits on their own. One wrong move, one extended second and you could have probably dislocated or broken their hip bones, or forceful strain on their muscles when they've not gradually prepared for it can even tear it and potentially cause lifelong damage. Also, I think the general Asian culture of "we faced this pain so our juniors have to face it too because they shouldn't be having it easy" has to stop, its nasty and inhuman. (I'm Indian so I'm kinda speaking from experience and observation.) When I trained to do the splits on my own, a little every day, I did a full split within three months, rather than when I was in Karate class and training to do so for 4 years💀. So stay safe and please proceed with caution. It will also help if you researched what areas of the body you use for different splits, so you can be wary of the potential damage you could cause to them and push your limits accordingly.

Flexibility takes time and works to achieve, and there are as many types of flexibility as there are muscles and joints in the body. You can be Gumby in one direction and still be C3PO in another. In order to improve your flexibility, you need to stretch more frequently than the stretching done in your martial arts class. You need to stretch every day and try to stretch at least twice per day. However, be aware that any improvement in flexibility as an adult will be slow. Nevertheless, if you keep stretching, you should see gradual but solid improvement over time.

I’ve been doing Taekwondo for 1 years, and was able to do the split by myself gradually before I did Taekwondo, I just want to say, different Taekwondo gyms have different exercise, forcing a split is okay, as long as you’re not as old as 14-15 because, the kid is still developing, and they have more bones than older people, meaning they’re more flexible than older people, it’s torture, but trust me, it’s for the good, forcing an Adult is gonna make them injured more than the kids.
