TAEMIN 태민 'MOVE' #1 MV + Dance Practice || Professional Dancer Reacts 

The look and feel for "Move" is very specific, it's supposed to be androgynous and gender neutral. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look. The industry thought it was novel and cute to dress Taemin up as a girl and play up his feminine features. (And if you ever saw Taemin dressed like a girl, you would see why. He really could pass as a girl, especially when he was younger.) Which ended up giving him a real complex about the fact that people never saw him as a masculine man. It took him a long time to accept that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career as a 24 year old (He is 27 now) he was trying to make a statement about how he has now come to terms with just being himself and not caring what people think. Dancing is art and movement has no gender. Fun fact: The blue color you see throughout this MV is supposed to represent the cool, chill vibe of this song, but you also should know that pearl aqua blue/green is SHINee's fan color, so you will see aqua/blue/green shades with most everything to do with SHINee as a way to represent their connection as a group and their connection to their fans, etc. "Move" features all female dancers because the whole point of the song and dance is supposed to be about crossing gender boundaries and how just because you are male doesn't mean your dance has to be hyper masculine. Taemin uses what is traditionally considered more feminine dance moves to show how you can merge both feminine and masculine styles together to create something that can't be singled out as one gender or the other. This dance allowed a more mainstream audience to start to embrace less traditional gender roles within Kpop. "Move" is one of Taemin's most famous choreographies and it has become the dance he is most recognized for.This dance has inspired what is known as the "Move disease," and it is said that the dance is so catchy that you can't help but try to imitate it. There are literally hundreds of videos online of people attempting cover dances to this song. (It is on the level of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" dance and some of the most famous TiK Tok dance challenges.) But no matter how good of a dancer they are, it is quickly apparent that there is just something about the way Taemin moves that can't be duplicated. Taemin is Taemin and there is no one else like him. The dance is never as sharp or precise as the way Taemin does it. That is why he is hands down considered one of the top two BEST dancers in the industry. As Taemin has said numerous times in interviews and on variety shows, the key point in "Move's" choreography is literally supposed to be to stare into the camera like you are trying to seduce the person who is watching. So, you are right, that is exactly what Taemin is doing. You are right, the female dancer who is dancing with Taemin in the MV is a famous choreographer. She is the one that choreographed "Move". Her name is Sugawara Koharu and she is a famous Japanese choreographer who has choreographed dances for several Kpop groups, as well as American artists. She has worked with Taemin a lot over the years and she is the one that also choreographed Taemin's dance for his songs "Want," "Flame of Love" and "Sayonara Hitori" and helped choreograph Taemin and her performance on the competition program Hit the Stage -- "Devil" performance, etc., and she was one of of 3 or 4 choreographers who helped choreograph "Criminal." Taemin and Sugawara are really good friends. She was also the choreographer for SHINee's song "Good Evening," among others. She loves working with Taemin because they are a lot alike, and that is one of the reasons why she has been featured in several of Taemin's projects. Plus, Taemin and all the members of SHINee, are also one of the most famous artists in Japan and they all speak fluent Japanese, so they have no problem communicating through dance or language. :D

They're called "Taemin and his girl gang", lol! I love his dancers. They're famous too! I've seen him perform Move with male dancers one time, in Vietnam. Usually it's his girl squad. Notice how his female dancers are powerful and confident and bold. He busts gender stereotypes all around. You mentioned his subtlety, and he's famous for always moving to the beat. In his Nemo performance video, he's barely moving but his hands move with every beat of the music. It's just magical. Subtle movements but he never misses a "drip" (water dropping noises in the song) with his hands/wrist flicks, etc.

Taemin's dance skills amazed the choreographers who worked with him, and SM had to make an effort to select dancers who could keep up the pace and adapt. He has his own style that he has developed.

this song changed the industry. for one, i think everyone who wasn't already a taemin fan saw and understood his artistry. second, for years taemin has been pushing the boundries between masculinity and femininity in dance. he is the definition of androgyny. while being in shinee he was always called the girly one, so he took that and turned it into something creative and beautiful. i would say he's the first person in the kpop industry to do that and popularize embracing your feminine side as a man (as well as having all female dancers) in the korean music business. it paid off because now in music videos boy groups wear crop tops and things like that.

Move is just iconic! No matter how much time will pass it will remain as one of the most legendary choreos and performances In Kpop I have no doubt about it! It is still covered by different people from the industry after 3 years from its release - that’s the power of Taemin and this song! Also fun fact: Taemin spent 18 hours in the rain filming this MV! It was the first MV this director ever did and he wanted to make it look perfect so they were shooting for 18 hours and Taemin wouldn’t complain - can you imagine his dedication??? The director later on said that it was only possible cause it was his first MV and Taemin was all right with it. He would never ever dare to ask another artist to go through something like this again!

The Korean MJ as people say Taemin is so good and he's still so young too (He debuted when he was 14) and he's been around for 13 years now His group SHINee is also making a comeback next month!

Oof, I haven't even watched it yet, but I'm already gonna say that you should definitely check out Move MV #3 Duo Ver. with the choreographer, Koharu Sugawara, even if it's just on your own in your own time! She did his Move too along with Criminal etc. In #1, you can see glimpses of her. She's the lady with the short black hair. You so won't regret it!

Until now this song is a bop. Still covered by a lot of kpop artists and featured in variety shows. Eventho this was way back 2017( i know its not that too old of a song) it just seems like taemin was ahead of its time when this was released and considered a cultural reset in kpop. Taemin has never had any formal dance training. He is self-taught yet such a phenomenal dancer with insane body control. This is just one of the things that make him unique as a Kpop artist. According to the director, Taemin spent 18 hours in the rain for this MV. You can hear him talk about it in the mini-doc, "The Artist: Taemin" . Many others who have worked with Taemin, including this choreographer, talk about him also.

Move is exceptional.... Taemin is an androgynous man and this choreo is really his style.... Respect him.

Thanks for appreciating this underrated choreography. I’ve heard people refer to it as simple and soft, yet they have no idea the control it takes to move that slow. It’s easier to hide flaws with a faster routine. Not one person have been able to cover this choreography beautifully. I know dance styles are different, but no one has made it their own yet. Can’t wait till you analyze “famous” and “sayonara hitori”. You are correct, he truly is versatile.

The most legendary choreo in all of the industry. Taemin is what you call the king of kpop he is a legend and the best dancer that kpop has to offer. He is an artist not just a dancer who follows choreo like some people (it’s not a bad thing I’m just differentiating) he choreographs and really feels his role as a performer. There will never be someone like Taemin and I couldn’t be more proud to have seen him grow for 4 years now

You're right. That's the choreographer! And honestly she's just perfect for Taemin 😭😭😭 and also, Taemin formally trained since 12-13 and debuted at the age of 14-15. His fellow members would say Taemin practices a lot on his own even in his free time and this is the result. In the kpop industry, many idols claim they look up to him and it makes me so proud since I've been a fan of him for a long long time (he's the reason I got into kpop 😂) and I've seen his growth 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Yes, Taemin is very trained by himself lol, he's watched a lot of videos on youtube and stuff. No, he has not received any pro training, unless you consider the lessons kpop trainees have, while also keeping in mind that Taemin was a trainee for less than 3 years. My point is, he's very gifted and also practices so hard, since his early teens, before his voice broke. Don't know if I make any sense.

ah, the iconic Move. this song has been covered SO many times and yet nobody can do it quite like him. absolutely nobody expects the drop for the chorus. btw you don't have to react to it but watch this live - he does a performance of it at Seoul Fashion Week on the runway and it's incredible. I think for that one it's one of the instances where he doesn't sing live but 99% of the time, Taemin does his vocals live and he's even better than the studio version, so whatever you think of the dancing, he repeats that and tops the energy of it in the MVs/dance practices AND does the vocals too when he performs. sometimes he gets a lot of buzz for his dancing but not as much for the quality of his music + vocal performance, I find. ps: with regards to how he manages to blend in and stand out, I find that is where all those years of performing and growing with SHINee comes in. the group is SO known for their choreo/dancing skills on top of their vocals and as the main dancer, yes, Taemin is the most skilled but he's also up against his members who dance very differently and yet they all make it work on stage to perform as one, so it shows through his solo work too.

If I remember from the news at that time, it did rain during the MV shoot. They just used it instead of waiting for the rain to stop. Yes, the girl dancing with TaeMin was the Japanese choreographer. I think her name is Koharu. Sugarawa. This choreography created the “Move Disease” in Korea. Everybody was just trying to cover it. It’s hard for a male dancer to dance like this. TaeMin’s dance lines a very good. You should also look into his Japanese song called “Famous.”

Some Move facts❤️ -The music video director said Taemin filmed for something like 15 hours straight (I can’t remember the exact amount but in the teens) in the rain for those rain scenes 😩 -Taemin said he wanted Move to convey that art, emotional expression and appearance shouldn’t be limited by societal gender boundaries -Koharu, the woman dancing with Taemin in the MV, choreographed this. She’s amazing! She said she taught Taemin the steps but was shocked at how quickly he learned them and turned the choreo into his own/added his own style. They’re close friends and have frequently worked together on other Taemin solos

i lnow rain is no fun but what is quite funny is that, taemin together with his members in shinee, always brings with them rain whenever they perform and you can't count the number of times they perform when it's raining. and they even power through during storms as well. so shinee, legendary.

If I remember correctly the person who took the mv said Taemin was under the rain 9 hours plus (I think more), and that he cant ever imagine asking another artist to shoot and dance under the rain like that ever again and that he doesn't know how Taemin was able to do that without a single complaint.

Woot! Taemin, my ultimate favorite! I've seen dancer reactions to this and they always say how difficult this choreo is. It looks deceptively simple but Taemin is the king of isolations and subtlety. He's widely regarded as the best dancer in Kpop, the MJ of Korea. He's performed since he was 14 so he's a well trained veteran whom other idols look up to, and with good reason. Plus, he's so damned friendly and helpful to his hoobaes. Some good ones to check out: Criminal, Want, Famous, Black Rose, Sexuality, Goodbye Hitori, Into the Rhythm, and he did a cover of Despacito (because yes, my man speaks Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and English!)
