TAEYEON 태연 MV REACTION | '불티 (Spark)' + Fine + '사계 (Four Seasons)' 

She's coming back this 17th with her prerelease single "Can't control myself" before releasing her 3rd full album in February

Four Seasons is talking about the relationship and self-doubt between lovers. "Did I really love you?" And Taeyeon said she didn't connect to the lyrics at first, but then she realized she could interpret this song as her career, like that she gave her whole life and so many four seasons into being a singer, but now she is wondering if she loved singing or not. She is suffering from depression for a long time, and purpose album is a masterpiece which talks a lot about herself and pain.

I feel that out of her titles, I & Fine, Spark & Four Seasons are probably the most similar sounding pairs, the latter 2 being from the same album. The contrast will get more apparent once you get to the likes of "I Got Love", "Weekend" or "Rain" for example and there’s even more variety in her b-sides. She's not trying new things to shock and impress though. It's more of her self-exploration journey. She takes her time, she makes things her own, she holds herself to a rather high standard, so the cohesion is there no matter how different the genres she chooses to tackle are. It still sounds like Taeyeon. Live instruments are indeed her thing, one of the reasons being she's a very concert oriented artist. As a leader of one of the most successful idol groups in history, she's done it all in unhealthy amounts: flashy videos, tv performances all over the globe, dance performances with a group and pre-recorded vocals etc. She made a name for herself and enough money to last this lifetime, so with her solo career she's mostly doing what she enjoys the most: creating music and performing it in front of her fans. Her concerts always feature a live band, so even songs with a more artificial sounding instrumental end up being re-arranged for playing live.

FunFact: Taeyeon didn’t like 4Season at the beginning! But now she enjoy it and wish to recorded it again to sing more beautifully 💜

Her evolution really happened from her debut with SNSD to now. SM is also just known for doing tons of different concepts with all their artists

"WHY" is my all-time favorite Taeyeon song. The MV and the vibe is so refreshing. The Dance version video of "WHY" is so damn cool as well.

It's funny to see you try to interpret all of her releases with a storyline but just in case you didn't know she wasn't a teenager in I. When she did her solo debut she was around 25/26 and it had already been 8 years since Girls Generation's debut. I would also recommend some of her OST from dramas she has quite a lot of them and from long before her official solo debut. The most recent ones that did well would be Into the Unknown from Frozen 2 and All About You/A Poem Called You from Hotel Del Luna (if you watch dramas I differently recommend and it has a lot of great OST) from the same year as 4 Seasons and Spark. Her first one is called 만약에 (or If in English) that was released a year after her group's debut. From what I know it was a pretty big success in Korea and is still covered to this day. Also I don't know if you're planning to watch lives later but if you do I would recommend her cover of Hush, Hush, Hush, Hush by the Pussycat dolls during one SNSD's world tour and one live of UR which is a b-side from the same mini album as I. Apart from that you can rarely go wrong with her anyway when it comes to live, she's one of the best vocalist in Kpop.

Fun fact: Well I can’t say it’s “fun”. But during the filming of Fine when the director says cut, Taeyeon actually started crying there so that was supposed to get cut, but she wanted it Also, I was laughing so hard when you said 4-5 years ago there wasn’t any CGI or something like..CGI has been around since like the 60’s/70’s 4-5 years is nothing 😂 I know what you mean but it was so funny to hear you say it like that. There some SM videos from the early mid and late 2000’s that have CGI before Taeyeon and Girls Generation were even around 😆

She is not just a vocalist who can hit high notes, she conveys emotions with her singing that touches everyone's heart and her timbre is simply divine, so velvety and voluminous. She's not really a fan of "Four Seasons" at all. She thought the song was a bit hokey and didn't really suit her style, but she trusted SM's judgement. As usual, they were right. The song was a big success for her. Many of SNSD's biggest songs were the ones she hated most. She used to literally cry backstage at the thought of performing "GEE" again live. She has a new full album coming out next month. "My Voice" and "Purpose" are both masterpieces.
