I have this Monaco gulf. It’s a head turner. So many people ‘clock’ it when it’s worn. If you want an instantly recognisable, unique, iconic watch, the Monaco is unmatched imv.

I have the 2023 Blue dial (date @ 6:00) and my wrist is about your size…16.5 cm so the 39mm Carrera is perfection for me. I still own and wear my 1969 Baylor so starting life with a Heuer and finishing with a Heuer. Great chronograph watches so I really enjoyed your review! Thanks

Been looking for a Monaco for quite some time now, tried several models on, but I finally bought this Monaco X Gulf edition the day of the Monaco GP. It was meant to be :) Totally love it, the blue dial is awesome and the Gulf colors are quite subtle in this version, which I really like. Very, very happy with this one, I love to wear it!

When I saw the new Monaco Gulf Edition, I initially thought I liked the previous version better. But now… after some time, this new model is growing on me. A nice Sun ray blue dial, removing the orange stitching on the leather strap and the newer/better movement makes this a nice overall piece. I like it. Might add it to the collection! Great presentations as always!

I've wanted a Monaco Gulf Edition since seeing my friend pick one up in 2007. I've continued to watch the evolution of the design over the years and it's become harder and harder to wait. When the Monaco got the H02 movement back in 2017(?), I started to get very excited about actually purchasing a Gulf Edition. And finally, 2022 the Gulf got the H02. I'm waiting for my AD to take delivery of one for me. I absolutely love the new iteration, and prefer the more subtle stripes.

I absolutely LOVE this Monaco x Gulf iteration. I have toyed with adding one to my collection since 2005, when the racing suit inspired white dial came out. I think the blue sunray dial works particularly well with the subtle gulf colours with some fantastic design enhancements such as the deep 60 at 12 o’clock and the integration of the Gulf logo at the small seconds hand. I have the early 2000s black dial, 2003 McQueen, Calibre 12 black dial and Monaco Sixty Nine and with its current larger dimensions, in-house movement and general aesthetics, this is my favourite. Don’t mind the full TAG Heuer logo and crown at 3 o’clock as it is in keeping with having a Heuer 02 rather than the Calibre 11 movement. My only bug-bear is the strap seems a bit of an afterthought, as they have used the orange calf inner of the previous version with a Heuer logo (should be TAG Heuer shield if the dial says TAG Heuer) and kept it very simple. I guess it’s not so bad as the dial is quite busy. I was the first person in the U.K. to take delivery of mine, however it is currently in pieces due to an accident, and in for repair. Can’t wait to get it back as only had two weeks with it…a resounding success this version I would say.

I've bought mine just a couple of weeks ago and now the orange inner side of the strap says "Tag Heuer" (just the name without the shield). I guess they changed it later in the production run; yours must be from an earlier production batch.

I have this yellow/black Carrera X Porsche watch. It's limited to 1,500. It's so beautiful in person I love wearing it. I don't daily it though. It's the most expensive watch I own by far so I'm trying to keep it as new as feasible since I bought it the day it was released in NYC 🗽. Probably TMI that no one really cares about but there ya go. The Monaco is just too much for me personally but I love to see someone wearing it.

I actually like both, but as a nod to the past, would prefer the Monaco version. Would prefer to see less status inducing watches like Rolex and the usual gang (Patek etc etc…) and more of what is being produced by the quality independents. Great video Alexander.

A great quick review Alexander as always. As for the new Monaco the movement is Heuer, the strap is also branded Heuer so why not brand the watch Heuer? The new Gulf version looks great. I have the old long discontinued Calibre 12 and love it. It would be interesting to experience the Calibre 02 differences apart from having an hour counter and the pushers being off centre with the crown due to the Calibre 12 with the Dubois Depraz modular chronograph build. The Porsche version would be more interesting for my brother who is a huge Porsche fan and one I'd be happy to take a look at.

Yes, why not calling it Heuer Monaco? It makes no sense to change the well established name Tag Heuer to Heuer, but it would be magic to see every year some HEUER special editions ...

The first time I saw the Monaco was in ‘The Bank Job’ worn by Jason Statham. I prefer the modern versions of the Monaco. The TAG on the dial doesn’t bother me because I grew up only knowing that name. I’ve owned the blue Calibre 12 for about 7 years now and yet it still feels like a new watch.

The Monaco looks really good. Not an aficionado of Tag Heuer by any means, but do like the look and movement of this model. The thickness combined with the square case does make it wear thicker than 15mm I think. Still a great release and another great video Alex.

The Monaco it's a brick, a 7k brick..the Carrera is nice, but, for any Tag Heuer we can say the same: 30% more expensive than what should be, dials and arrows, often looks very cheap. But i love Tag Heuer, especially the Aquaracer! They just need, for the price they ask, more quality.

Well Heuer was the genius of the brand, so for the Monaco I think it is fitting to be named just Heuer. In my opinion both watches have qualities that appeal to me, I like thick watches (it's a pity the Monaco wasn't 44 cm too). I hope they are available in Oz soon. 😉

I think the company needs to make up their mind about the name and then stick with it. Either drop TAG from their entire branding and all watches, or just keep TAG Heuer on all watches. It's weird that some have TAG and some have just Heuer

TAG HEUER will keep "TAG HEUER" on the majority of watches of course since this is a worldwide perfectly introduced name and logo... some special editions though can also be named HEUER only... That's then a link to the history of the brand

Correct . Just with the word Heuer, the watches would both be so much cooler, for some reason , Tag cheapens them. Also the Monaco gulf , should have deleted the stripes , then it would have looked amazing . Less is more 😀

Yes, but only for special editions. TAG Heuer is a world wide known and perfectly established brand... that makes absolutely no sense. And taking away the stripes would banalize that special edition, since the Gulf colors are the major design element...

Funnily enough Invicta has made a copy of the monaco calling it the s1 Rally it is very very close to the tag one but of course a quartz movement

That depends on what angle you look at it! If you want the look of this watch for far far less money then yes why not? But from a legal point of view it could be a question of breach of copyright but that is for Tag and Invicta to deal with. Also not for you or I to say but for lawyers and courts to decide if appropriate.

They labelled it Heuer for a Carrera re-release recently and it looked brilliant on the dial, much better than the “new” Tag Heuer logo. I think the old Heuer logo would look better on this Monaco.

TAG HEUER is a worldwide distributed and successful brand... Times hav changed so has the brand name over the years... Some special editions though should still be named only HEUER...

Please change the logo to be without the Tag, then my current Gulf will be the rare one. The logo means nothing to me really. The brand name includes Tag now. The previous company failed. Too bad but it failed. If Tag fails, maybe a new logo will have some other word in it.

No. Tag heuer is right. When they merged Heuer was in financial difficulty. Now when the difficulty is over we don't them. Is just like with the Russians. Till today their money was good from today is not good. How is that?
