I think it'd be funny if Lazy Link got more progressively into boats as the LP progresses, so at the end when asked "Hey Link, do you like Boats?" He screams "Hell yeah, boats are great!"

Interesting tip about the grappling hook, if an enemy has a chance to drop an item like a joy pendant or chu jelly using the grappling hook automatically steals that item. This makes later side quests way easier.

at this point a bonk counter will probably be a good reminder for link (and more importantly nico)

Since you went to the auction, there is one item you must get. It will make sailing the sea much much faster. If the item is not the one you want, you can just lose the auction and reenter to start a new one. Don't make my mistake and start exploring the sea withouth it.

It’s usually best to make a huge bid at the last ten seconds. That way, all the bidders won’t have enough time to make a bid by then. That makes getting what you want a lot easier. Also every time you make a bid, you can see the timer on the top of the screen.

Nico saying he still doesn't understand what the Pear is for followed by him looking at the exact thing the Pear is for is the reason I've been watching this channel for 8 years.

Advice: -Absolutely keep doing the auction, like, immediately. One of the items there you will want to have as early as possible. You'll know it when you see it. There's like, 5 or 6 items you can get from the auction, too, so knock yourself out if you have money to spend. - You can press ZR (or in your case R2) on the boat to move slowly without the sail out. This is great for approaching salvagable treasure. Those glowy spots are very sensitive so you should try getting your position juuust right. Also, ZR is what you're _supposed_ to use to drop objects you're carrying. Pay attention to what the buttons say in the top right. - You already have a few Treasure Charts. Treasure Charts are _unique._ There is a finite amount of them. Some of them are a pain to find. On your Map Screen, look to the left to actually _open_ them. You'll need to do that to actually know where to look, assuming you even have the appropriate tile of your map filled out by the fish... person... things. Do try to get comfortable with the Map Screen and _all_ of it's functions, you're going to use it a LOT. There's a number of unique Charts that show things other than treasure, as well, although most of them are really hard to find. Make sure to open them whenever you get one. - You CAN explore the Great Sea freely now, and oh boy is this thing big. a LARGE portion of it is completely optional, and a lot of it you won't be able to do yet anyway. I recommend focusing on the main story until about after you finish the third dungeon. But if you want to explore a little on the side, go ahead. And make sure to fill out your map while you do it. Bonus: - 100%in the Great Sea is a monumental task. There are a lot of things _besides_ islands that _technically_ have unique treasures, like those little towers with enemies on them that you saw. Those treasure chests only spawn once. And they don't show up on your map, so true 100% completion would require very meticulously sweeping the entire map from top to bottom to make sure you've been everywhere (Or alternatively, noting down _every single thing you find,_ and which tile of the map you found them in, as you go. Maybe at some point you'll have some form of guide to compare those notes to without having to look up the exact locations...) This is not to discourage you from exploring on your own. Please do, there's a lot of cool stuff to find. Just don't worry too much about exploring _every possible nook and cranny_ unless you _really_ want that full completion. It's a lot of hours of extra work, I would know.

I recommend Z targeting more when fighting most enemies, cause not only does make it easier to hit your target and perform combos, but it helps keep your bearings and you'll sometimes able to perform Parry's if you wait for them to attack, which can do some serious damage. Plus they just add a lot of flavour to the combat.

At the rate this running gag with the mailbox in the "Previously" bits are keeping up, I'm fully expecting the mail box to shoot Komeada in the Finale.

So, a few fun facts to note! 1: The stone caller was the boat, not Tetra, and if you idle in front of the boss in this dungeon too long, he will actually give advice on how to beat it! 2: The Wind Waker was originally designed to be a 'theremin' which is a kind of instrument that can be controlled, and able to make sounds, without physical contact. However, the design and idea for it ended up being too complicated, so they scrapped it for the baton, instead. 2A: You're getting the hang of it, but I notice you're still trying to time your baton movements to match the timing of when the red dot goes back to the middle. You don't need to do that. The moment you see the note pop up, you can switch to the new direction you're trying to conduct for. For example: Up, Left, Right. Pressing Up starts it, so you can immediately switch to Left. Once it hits the middle, you can then switch to the Right, and just wait for it to be completed. 3: For the Auction, bidding 10% higher than the current bid will stun the crowd for 10-15 second. 20% higher adds a few seconds longer. So the overall strategy is to place a bid to stun the crowd, get the gauge back up to almost full, and place a new bid to re-stun the crowd! 4: The GC version of this game came out right before my Moms birthday (NA Release: March 24th, Moms Birthday: March 26th), and we gave it to her as a present for her birthday. What a surprise that the game starts on Links birthday too!

Don't forget the ZR button on the interface! It will show some pretty useful things you can do, including but not limited to: -Putting down a held item directly in front of you! -Cruising your boat slowly when your sail isn't out! -Jumping your boat while your sail IS out! And many more! You also can stop your boat more quickly by holding B when you put your sail away!

I love how Nico just stays in his Link character. That’s how you know how much he enjoys being an unenthusiastic Link.

I love that the first over half an hour is just Nico being in character, broken up only momentarily to address the map and whatnot. Not even Kokichi Link was prone to lengthy monologues. This is by no means a criticism

I don't think the game tells you directly, but while sailing you can notice that the ZR button has special functions, if your sail is down you can move slowly which is helpful for positioning yourself over the treasure you want to salvage. And yeah, the map fish always show up around islands, never in the open sea

So if you complete the game you unlock a mode where you can play the entire game as link in his blue lobster attire. (They even change some dialogue to acknowledge link is wearing a different outfit) and the mode also translates what valoo and other characters are saying.

so now that you got the grabbling hook here's a helpful tip about it. As it already mentions you can use it to get around and grab stuff from the sea floor but what it doesn't tell you is that you can use it on enemies to steal items off of them. This can really help with gathering materials from enemies/spoils but not every enemy has something to steal like the magtail (fire centapiedes) and the keese (bats).

Congratulations Nico! Now, with the Wind Song and the sail, you can access much more places in the map (unless prompted by the game)! Be sure to spot the fishes near islands and throw bait in the ocean so they tell you stuff! They also draw you a map of the island too! Also, if you wish to just sail slowly towards a treasure spot or a fish or Beddle's Shop, you can do so when your sail is out with ZR! But that's not the tidbits I wanna share with you today, but some obscure promotional material for this game! There exists a GameCube disk that holds a collection of Zelda games for the GameCube, which includes the original The Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link and more impressively, both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The full games in 1 Gamecube disk! I couldn't play them cuz they were in english and I was too young to understand it (I'm spanish, so that sucked). But the disk also had a special section where you could play timed demos of Wind Waker as promotional material! If memory serves, you had 3 timed demos: one of the Forsaken Fortress, another of DragonRoost Island and then one of DragonRoost Cavern. My big sister and I got the game cuz we replayed the shit out of those demos when we were younger and craved it badly. It got so bad that with trial and error, I managed to get as far as the middle boss of the Dragonroost Cavern after zooming past all the puzzles in the way! But yeah, I find it impressive that a GC disk held so much Zelda content. Apparently, it came bundled with a Special Edition Silver GameCube or with a console bundled with either Mario Kart Double Dash (that's how I got mine) or Wind Waker. Unfortunately, I lost mine a long time ago, but it was so cool that they did something like that as an extra gift with your GameCube bundle. Too bad the GameCube sold so poorly.

I know I wasn't the only one that played around with the Windwaker and pretended that they were a conductor to a fancy orchestra. Good times.

That conversation you had with Tetra about the rats was actually supposed to happen in the Forsaken Fortress. You skipped it because you literally didn't run into a place with rats at all in that dungeon except for the room where you were sneaking around

So, the game technically never tells you this outright, but it does hint at it at one point. If you use the grappling hook on certain enemies, it will steal a collectable from them. So be sure to try out your grappling hook on enemies you encounter. The collectables have various uses, and some of them are very worth grinding for.

36:50 Regarding the Tingle Tuner of the original GameCube version, there was also a secret that only people using the TT could find. That secret is actually still in this game, but there is nothing to indicate it for anyone who didn't already know. Try coming back to this exact spot later on when you get bombs and blow up the ground. There is a secret like this in all of the major dungeons in this game in various "weirdly out of place" spots. Collect all of them and you can get a surprise visit from... someone.

I think this might be my favourite Link, I think Nico is having a lot of fun voicing him too XD

I think my favorite part about the auctions is every time someone makes a bid Link does a funny expression every time. Speaking of the auction: One of the items you can get from it is VERY worth getting so consider giving the auction another go and pray the item in question actually is up for bidding.

Nico, I’m loving this, but I swear you constantly forget you have a shield and are taking so many hits you could have otherwise blocked, and even locking on.

In addition to allowing you to swing from branches and fish things up from the sea, the grappling hook also allows you to go all Sly Cooper on your enemies and steal their things. Namely items that would be their drops like joy pendants from bokoblins or Chu Jelly from Chuchus. You don't even have to fight them. Also you can turn while swinging and if you hold R you can stop swinging and climb or extend the rope

Nico, the auction has a bunch of stuff, but there is 1 thing in particular you might find worthwhile there, I would recommend getting it.

Honestly, I love the Great Sea precisely because of the Sea Chart system. Tracking down the fish to expand the map and it giving you hints of what to do to find treasure on that Island and tackling the lil puzzles it has to get a reward, plus eventually using a Treasure Chart to get something else on top of that? Younger me absolutely loved sailing through every nook and butthole of that great blue beyond and despite being mostly water, it's still to this day one of my most memorable Zelda overworld to date. I'm glad that the HD remaster made it easier to travel, too.

Some helpful things for you, Nico, now that you're being introduced more to some of the central mechanics and items in the game - As many have already pointed out, there is an extremely useful item exclusive to this version of the game that can only be obtained in the auction house that'll make sailing A LOT less tedious - While you're on Windfall, why not go over to where totally-not-Elvis is by that gravestone again? You can help him with the thing he was asking for when you talked to him last time now that you have a certain island. You can talk to him again if you don't remember what that was. I promise you that what you'll get from it is extremely worth it. - The crawling maze in the prison seems like a nightmare, but it'll rewards you with something when you clear it that is definitely worth the effort if you are looking to get all the items in the game. It will also allow you to do something else later on that will probably be explained to you if and when you come across it... - Finally, concerning the Sea Charts: They can only be accessed while you are outdoors, more specifically in places that allow you access to the Great Sea without warping you back to where you fell (like what happened when you fell off of the cliff in this dungeon). These charts lead to exclusive treasures that are associated with specific islands (1 island per chart); Some of them lead to rupees, but others have items that are absolutely worth the search. The best part is that when you obtain said treasures, they will be marked on your Sea Chart, as well as on the charts themselves - making keeping track of which ones you've gotten much easier. Don't try to find all of them now, as you won't be able to get all of the charts now anyway. Anyway, that's it for now: hope this information is useful. Have fun on your voyage NicoB!

Nice part. The boss of this fire dungeon was very creepy. Also it is cool that you can sail now to different places. I recommend that you follow the advice from the fish and look for the other fishes, because they can show you different things on the map. I also recommend that you do the auctions for some valuable items and there is a trick to win at the bidding: Place a bid 10% higher than the current bid to freeze your opponents for 15 seconds. A good technique is to place a 10% higher bid (e.g. if the current bid is 110, add 10%, or 11 rupees for a bid of 121) at the 30 second mark, then wait for someone to get un-stunned. Mash the button to place another 10% increased bid around the 10 second mark

Just a a future tip Nico, read your icons at the top and what they change to! When you sail you have a stop and cruise function! and when you have a grappling hook out, you can stop and pivot your position! lots of tools and items later have more than one use so make sure to read the icons at the top to see!

Just so you know, Nico, the "orcs" are this game's version of the Bokoblins (which you've seen before in BOTW). This is actually the first-ever game they appeared in, which is surprising since they're pretty much one of the "staple" enemies in Zelda games now.

Man, watching this let's play is so nostalgic of course, but even though I only got the opportunity to play the game myself when it released originally on the WiiU I watched my older sister play it all and it was a really great experience to watch her play! Nico, it is I, the voice of reason. To save yourself a headache later go to the auction house at night, the dancing guy at windfall will help with that. The auction house is full of insanely good items, and there's one that's exclusive to the HD version. You'll know what it is when you get it. As it is a MASSIVE QoL improvement

A few things. The orcs are Bokoblins. Also, the one who called you is not Tetra, it's the boat itself. You should've hear a deep "Hey". In battles, always lock on the enemy at the start of the fight for a better combat. In fact, with the Grappling Hook while locking onto some enemies, you can get items like the butterfly necklaces you're getting from the Bokoblins. At the auction house, there's an item in the HD version that I highly recommend to get. And finally, use the wind waker in front of that Elvis wanna be near the grave.

Here’s a tip for the auction; Always increase the bid by only 10 or 11. It saves on rupees for you. When the other auctioneers are stunned, build up the meter just enough to immediately bid once the others finish being dazed.

Some tips for the auction: the stun lasts for about ten seconds. Also, you stun them when your bid is at least 10% higher than the current bid. Also, an item you'll definitely want is in the auction pool, so I would dedicate time to getting it. You should sing for the disco man. You'll be glad. The boat has brakes, despite what boat man said. Hold the B button to slow down, or pull out either the Wind Waker or your sister's telescope to stop instantly.

This is so awesome! The old boat and young Link and salvaging....do you know who reminds me of? Azudra and REX!!!!!!!! I wonder if Link too, will get the master sword and some sick wonderful pants. Oh! The journey!

There's actually a very important item in that auction that was put in for the HD version of the game. You'll know it when you see it, and I don't think it's gone for good if you fail the auction (That and I think saving might work too). Also, should we keep a counter for every time Link rolls into a door or chest or something? I think that might be funny at this point.

Please upvote this so nico notices: There are two things you should know nico, one is that you should show your wind waker to the dancing guy. The other is a important thing with the grappling hook, using it on certain enemies gives you their drops, when you use them on the normal goblins you should always get one joy pendent from each you grapple hook if I remember correctly, this works on most enemies that have drops

Do note that if you press ZR without the sail you can slowly cruise on your boat, it'll make fishing for treasure easier than trying to stop the boat on a dime.

I highly recommend checking out the auction place again. Wind Waker HD added a really useful new item that makes something a lot less tedious.

Heres a tip about the the grappling hook, it also gives you a high (if not guaranteed) chance to steal an item from an enemy to get rare "Spoils". of the enemies you fought so far..... Chu-Chu jellies drop Jellies (R/G/B) Bokoblins (goblin creatures) drop Joy pendents Moblins (Pig soldiers)drop Skull Pendents and Kargarocs (the goat sounding birds) drop Golden feathers. also if you take out the grappling hook while your sailing it completely halts your momentum, so you can use it as a break to better stop at the glowing circles.

Long-time Wind Waker veteran here with some advice! - When sailing around on the sea, you can use the ZR button (or R2) to jump with your boat to avoid obstacles! Not only is it fun, there's some enemies you can avoid when jumping with the boat. - Like many others have said, DEFINITELY go to the auction nights. There's a very useful item available in the Wii U version that was not available in the original game. You'll know it when you see it. - Treasure Charts! Since you're using an emulator, you don't have the ability of looking at the screen and a Wii U gamepad the whole time to see where you're sailing on the sea. The lights you see on a sea are quite sensitive and fade away once you inch closer to them. Pay attention to the glimmering noise and how loud it gets as you move around the area. To see how close you are, you can always pause the screen to look at the map and look at the chart section to see how close you are. - You'll definitely get the tempos of the Wind Waker down soon, just read what the other commenters have said about it. If you haven't already, go talk to the Elvis lookin' dude, and go on with that. - Lastly, EXPLORE. Explore as much as you want with this game. I know that's obvious, but this game rewards you for exploring as much as you can. To me, Wind Waker is like a small taste of what Breath of the Wild (and soon Tears of the Kingdom) eventually came to be.

A fun little implication with Beedle in this game is that he doesn't actually get that much business. He goes to a bunch of islands with sparse populations to try and peddle his wares but he seems to have little success. As evidenced by the sad look he has on his face. He does come to Windfall Island which is a merchant hub but he only ever gets there at night, meaning after hours when nobody is out buying anymore. This would basically mean Link is his only regular customer and therefore keeping him in business. So buy buy buy lol

I know there’s a few tips on the grappling hook. I’m just gonna add one more. You can stop the momentum of grappling hook and then change the direction of where you are swinging as well as the height of where you are on the hook

Something incredibly important to know about using the windwaker. You do not need to perfectly time the movements with the dot in the center. So long as you are holding it in the right direction it counts. You could move the stick the moment after the first input and hold it there.

Small tip about slowing down while sailing: you can press ZR (or other controller equivalent) to slow down and move a little bit forward without sailing

Before leaving Windfall, you should explore more the tingle cell branching paths.
