Follow me on Twitter: / antiztheman Please subscribe: / @charactersin-depth3472 Tails has been pushed aside for too long. It's way past time Sonic Team treated him like the hero he is.
Tails was always more than just a sidekick. A pilot, a mechanic, and a tech genius, his best friend. What they did to him in the later stories is ridiculous
I feel like Tails should be more of a partner or equal to Sonic. Like the Nightwing to Sonic's Batman. Able to stand out on his own but does his best work together with the hero he was formerly a sidekick to.
I feel like he should be a little bit of both a partner and a hero! I like think of him as a heroic partner in Sonic Adventure 2 sense he does save Amy from Prison Island.
Even in Frontiers (good game, btw), while in a way, Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose (Sonic’s best friends) have their old personalities back like in Sonic Adventure (which is debatably an even better game, let alone the Dreamcast version), they could have been playable characters instead of holograms for Sonic to take hours just to rescue (I mean, hey, he was back on track in this game which might as well be the longest game in the franchise since Sonic 06 clocking at 12-13 hours according to the first couple of longplays).
Tails in the adventure games: sonic may not be here, but im not scared to take down evil by myself! Tails in recent modern games: oh no chaos 0! SoNiC hElp Me!!!! Look at how they massacred my boy...
If Ian Flynn wants to fix the plot holes and character problems. Here’s my idea. Tails has lost his confidence and is suffering guilt after leaving Sonic at Infinite’s mercy Shadow has become a lot more edgy after being scolded and blamed for causing Maria’s death And Amy just had a weird boy-crazy phase…
ngl, when Tails said "I did it! I did it all by myself!" after beating Eggman on his own, I almost cried. For so long he was basically dependent on Sonic, never really able to act on his own because he didn't believe in himself. It was really heartwarming to see him start becoming independent.
Well tbh, even if you're a sidekick you can still count as a hero. Just like how Luigi is a sidekick to Mario but also a hero at times especially when saving Mario in Luigi's Mansion, and even did certain things on his own. Tails is basically both the Sidekick and Hero at the same time. Yeah Tails in the Adventure days was amazing in my opinion. He was so helpful that Station Square thanked Tails for stopping the Missile, and that's when Tails didn't depend on Sonic. Also like you mentioned, Tails in SA2 was in control of himself especially when he thought Sonic was dead and tries to avenge Sonic by battling with Eggman. To be fair, Tails in Sonic Heroes didn't really disappoint me honestly. In fact Tails does actually overcome his fears even if he got scared in that game kinda like when Luigi overcomes his fear even if he gets scared a lot in the games especially Luigi's Mansion. Tails in Sonic Heroes was actually really helpful in my opinion I don't find it much of a step back, I find him trying to help Sonic like how he did in the Classic games and even the Adventure games. I find Tails to be a bit like that even if he can be kinda scared but being scared doesn't automatically make you bad. Too bad I find in Sonic colors he was too much of a joke telling kid, and he only supports Sonic instead of helping him out especially in Sonic Generations. I love Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, but both of those stories felt kinda left out for me. I hate how Tails acted a bit selfish in Sonic Lost World, and in Sonic Forces he just becomes a huge coward and doesn't help out not even in the final battle. I know I stated that Tails being a coward in Sonic Heroes isn't that bad, but that's only because Tails was still helping out and still overcoming many things which Sonic Forces doesn't do any of that. Yeah I hope Tails improves a lot in Sonic's 30th anniversary, especially when Sonic Mania helped Tails improve in my opinion.
This might be very of topic but my favorit Video game character is actully a side kick. He is pretty much helpless on his own where the best he could acompalish is not geting himself killed ore captured but when it comes to supporting the main hero and his team he is godlike in both story and gameplay. Used right he even turns the optional Super Boss in to a cakwalk. He might not be able to acomplish much if anything on his own but I still see him as a courages and admirable hero.
Even though it’s an animated series I was really into Sonic X and how Tails grew as his own character when he fell in love with Cosmo. There was an episode where he alone had to face Shadow, who was going to kill Cosmo because (spoiler) she was unknowingly a spy for the main villain. But I was so impressed and shocked at how Tails was going up against one of the most powerful characters to me. I honestly saw him as just the sidekick but this episode blew me away. Sonic X may get hate but as a kid watching the series, especially the season finale, I will never forget just how incredible Tails was. * The original Japanese version really expands on his character more than the English version but the English is still good
I really like Sonic X, TBH. I think it portrays the characters accurately, and it has some plots from the games and the comics. The only thing I don't like about Sonic X is Chris.
Honestly, what they did to tails really hurts. Other Sidekicks that got their own herostatus like Luigi(Marioseries) or Diddy kong(DK-series) also got reduced in importance over the years, but they at least admit that These guys COULD do stuff on their own, they just tag along their buddies either out of kindness or to cover up their own weaknesses(which is a smart reason to team up). Tails meanwhile went from classic sonics sidekick in Gameplay in sonic2 AND sonic3(he Shows up for a bossfight there even if you do not play him) to being a cool kid to being classic sonics Sidekick outside of gameplay. What happened? That is literally negative development, being in a lesser position than in the start. He is literally just like the kid who got bullied and contemplated ending it before he met the blue guy. Sega, fix your crap now
Luigi's got it good, he actually really increased in his importance, especially in 2013. Even before the Year Of Luigi, he was still portrayed to be on mostly equal grounds with Mario in the Mario and Luigi series.
@@lpfan4491 the fact that we can now say he has his own series shows hom much better Luigi got than other sidekicks and is still being shown as important to this day.
I'm upset about how they made Tails less of a character and more of someone who's just... there, like most of the other characters. And, in Forces, whenever Chaos 0 showed up, and he just cowered in the corner, it just angered me. I get that it's supposed to be the cutscene that introduces Classic into the game, but that was really unnecessary. I really would've loved a fight with Chaos as Tails. I would've just loved to have some Tails levels that could replace the Classic stages, or even have a Tails story where Sonic is never freed and Tails has to save the world by himself. I really just want to have a playable Tails in the modern games.
I think the main reason why Classic Sonic was in Forces is because of the success of Generations, and it needed to be tied with Mania. Here's the thing: Mania should be its own thing and not have it connect to Forces. That's what the Plus expansion's for, right?
@@HarmonyBunny I agree. And that's exactly why they put him in is marketability. They just wanted to get more money since Mania and Generations were successful.
here's something they could've done when chaos 0 appears tails does try to fight him but chaos gets the upper hand and right before he kills tails that's when classic sonic appears
I admit, Tails is more than a sidekick character, he may be smart, but he used to have fears in the past and he overcomes his owns. Tails is one of the most interesting characters of the franchise. But in my opinion, liked how he acts sarcastically towards Eggman, it shows their rivalry between each other and I enjoyed it. We saw Tails as a sidekick character in his debut, he was a little bit naive and scaredy, but since SA1 he grows by being confident, brave, strong and independent. I wish SEGA shows more that side of Tails, actually knowing what to do to help the others. Let’s hope that the movie actually gives him justice. Like Shadow759 said PRAISE TAILS! Honestly, we can’t let him be as NPC on the 3D games, we should give him justice.
Technically Tails doesn’t stop having fear in SA1, people should understand his fear doesn’t go away because he’s a kid but he faces his fears when the time calls for it.
Tails is just flat-out the leader of the group in SA2. My absolute favourite scene of the game is the whole fake Emerald exchange where Sonic gets blasted off into space. For so many reasons but the one that's relevant here is how when Sonic realises he can give Eggman the fake Emerald and "kill two birds with one stone", he looks to Tails who simply nods back to him. Not only does Sonic respect and value Tails' opinion, but the two are so in-synch they can communicate without any words. In regards to his Heroes appearence, I honestly think most of his problems stem from his terrible voice actor. He just sounds so WHINEY >< Him being afraid of ghosts isn't exactly wrong - he's been shown to be afraid of natural disasters before so the supernatural isn't a stretch, and the 25th Anniversary comics actually showcase this. Despite how whiney he sounds though he's at least still an integral part of the team who carries his own weight (as well as Sonic's and Knuckles' at times) so it's not like he's been completely bastardized or anything. ShTH did him well, having him raid one of Eggman's themeparks for rings and protecting the President's escape pod from the Black Arms.
Yea they've been doing him dirty for a while now, and it wasn't Chaos 0 he was cowering at, he was also cowering in front of freaking regular Eggman troops before that even happens! Now there was a comment I can remember hearing from Digi Valentine in his Who Dat series where he suggests off the back of the line at resistance HQ "Tails has lost it" that his confidence had been shaken, which would have been fine. As after all, he just saw Sonic (presumably) die in front of him and it wouldn't be too crazy to think that it could rattle anyone (even though he's more vengeful in SA2 but lets roll with it) but considering how quickly he seems to get over it when Classic Sonic arrives it kinda falls flat. Plus you also had him cowering at the regular Eggman troops even before he's trying to fix up Omega and Chaos 0 appears. Come on Sega, he deserves better than this. Thankfully though we had Tyson Hesse making him look strong, rather a weak wimp jobber, in those Mania Adventure shorts where he was getting in about it with Sonic against Eggman and Metal Sonic. Plus as well with mainline 3D titles I don't think he (along with most of the other characters) have been playable since Sonic 06, as since Unleashed in 08 it really has been Sonic or bust with the exception of the OC in Forces and the outsourced Boom. I think he's long overdue another chance to shine in the spotlight, but keep him like SA1. Don't confine him a mech again like SA2. Don't lumber him with Sonic & Knuckles so that he's stuck in constant flight, like in Heroes. Don't nerf his running speed into the ground to the point where Knuckles is (slightly) faster than him, meaning that if you wanted to get anywhere quickly flying was the only viable option. Or take away his tail swipe move like Sonic 06, replacing it (and regular jumping/rolling spin attacks) with only those ring bomb boxes. So, like SA1, let Tails run (and fly) wild and free! Because as the old saying goes, "let Tails run (and fly) wild and free".
@@charactersin-depth3472 oh I know all about that, it looks and feels great. Also the throwback to Riders is a nice touch. Hopefully the guy can get something made either by himself or maybe Sega will reach out to him like what happened with Christian "Taxman" Whitehead, for Mania, because clearly the guy knows his stuff. I was meaning to say as well about another video which you probably might have seen, Tails of a Forgotten Sidekick which pretty much sums up of how Tails has been used since Unleashed until now. It's pretty funny, but also kinda sad, though it does have a heartwarming ending with the second video, proving that there is light at the end of the tunnel with Tyson Hesse's animations and Taxman and Co should they ever get called back for another game ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UnJY5LjYe0A.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sBWeJZijfJ4.html
The gross and rampant flanderization of all these characters Sonic himself included really grinds my gears Sega is trying to hard to "be like Mario" instead of the unique characters and world that made us fall in love with the franchise Sonic should take notes from Digimon Knowing they are more niche they cater to their teen and adult audience first creating new and interesting characters and worlds while keeping the spirit of the franchise in tact Sonic team WE WERE KIDS WHEN WE LATCHED ON TO YOUR FLAGSHIP FRANCHISE I wish they would trust kids today like they trusted us back then Archie knows how to write Sonic and can still market to children.... I wouldn't even care if it was different if it was at least good
I blame Sega of America who care more about pleasing moronic critics than actual fans of the series that want the series to succeed. Why couldn't Sega of Japan kept the series under their wing & let it prosper alongside Yakuza in the aftermath of Sonic 06? The mischaracterization & "Silly Animal Cartoon" tone we've been stuck with since 2010 never would have happened! Sonic was supposed to feel like Shonen Anime, not this lame parody we've gotten because of Sega of America being complete idiots. Face it Yakuza games with Sonic Characters modded as playable characters is the closest we'll get to the spirit of how Sonic should be if Sega of America insists on treating the series this way. Speaking of which why the heck hasn't anyone modded Sonic or Shadow into Yakuza games yet?
Guys, remember when in Sonic Battle, Tails found the courage to beat *Shadow* up? Yeah Shadow was weakened but still, he had the balls to fight an enemy arguably stronger than Sonic.
Sonic Battle was probably the best written Sonic game there has ever been. It basically did every character in it perfectly and full justice to the aspect of the characters that make them what they were. Bioware, notorious historically for their excellent ability to tell stories, knew this too. Which is why Sonic Chronicles leaned so heavily on everything that was told in Battle. I know the game had it's faults but I'm genuinely sad we never got the sequel to Dark Brotherhood - which also knew mostly how to use the characters. It's a real shame it's ending kind of forces it to be non-canon now.
Damn, I miss the adventure games. We just don't get storytelling like that anymore... Tails in adventure 2 is one of my favourite incarnations of him. But right after that, he's just useless. No evolution in his character and somehow reverts back even worse. Now just a side character and wimp.
@@donathan2933 unleashed is an amazing story. But when I look back at it, I never think about Tails. He barely did anything, the first time we meet him he runs away and hides. And I'd barely call what they did in heroes a super form.
Aizakku Analysis you don’t give Tails in Heroes enough credit he actually plays a role in that game and is playable as well. Yes he don’t do much in Unleashed but as a person he’s still well written and try’s to help Sonic travel to the world and in the Xbox version you can even control his ship and fight enemies in the sky.
@@donathan2933 tails was at one point going to be playable in sonic unleshed but some dumb ass at sega tought it was a good idea to add the warehog thing to the game and replace all the playable characters the game was going to have if they want with the playable characters the game could of been a master peice
@@AizakkuAnalysis again you're overlooking Tails contribution in heroes due to your own personal dislike of his whiny annoying personality and voice. I don't like Tails overall as a character, but I'm at least willing to give him some respect when he proves himself worthy or relevant to the plot or story of a game. It's your opinion and I respect that tho
To me tails has inspired me to come out of my comfort zone and to get out there and do things form seeing how he grew but what they have done to him infuriates me
I feel like Tails shifted from a young mechanical genius who learns to be confident in his own abilities to an egotistical scientific genius who is also a total coward. Note the difference between 'mechanical genius' and 'scientific genius'. I don't think he was ever meant to rant technobabble and be some kind of megagenius like Eggman. I feel like that between the earlier games he comes across a lot more as a tinkerer and a mechanic. He can build machines and tools, but not up to the same degree as Eggman.
That was the peak of SA2 though: showing that tails *literally* rivaled eggman, as a pilot and as a mechanic. I really wish that blossomed into a sort of tails v eggman matchup. Instead they just turned him into the "science sidekick" which is why it ended up feeling like a major regression.
Finally, i am not alone when i say the instant shift from an aspiring prodigy to a megagenius who's lines other than technobabble are a snarky attitude was BS. imo his mechanical level during the adventure series should have stayed as a machine tinkerer and a gadget maker. The instant intelligence upgrade for the whole hero vs dark theme in SA2 was a waste, imo it would have been cool if instead it was used for a development arc during the story, like in a way of getting out of your comfort zone. It would have felt more natural than it appearing out of nowhere.
Tails in the Adventure Era: I beat Chaos to get the 4 emeralds. I also defused the missile and defeated Eggman in the Space Colony ARK. I, of course did a lot more than you thought. Tails after SA2: Sonic, we need to do something! Sonic, we only have 3 hours left! Tails in Mania: I defeated Eggman’s robots and the Hard-Boiled Heavies to get all the chaos emeralds. I beat Metal Sonic in Stardust Speedway again. I might’ve regained my hero status :D Tails in Forces: Sonic, help me I’m being attacked by Chaos Zero! Why can’t SEGA give the other characters more love including Knuckles, Rouge, Amy, The Chaotix, even Classic Knuckles and Classic Tails! Especially his modern counterpart.
I think this can be summed up perfectly: Tails in Sonic 2: Cute boi Tails in AoSTH: Funny boi Tails in S3&K: Playable character Tails in Adventure 1: Rescues the Station Square all by himself and kills Chaos 0 Tails in Adventure 2: Avenges Sonic's death and rescues everyone Tails in Advance games: Playable character Tails in Sonic X (decent anime BTW): Rescues Cosmo from Shadow, but later kills Cosmo to save the galaxy Tails in Heroes: Helpful and playable character. He may have been a coward, but at least he overcame his fears. Tails in '06: A very useful boy who helped Elise. Tails in Shadow '05: Protects the president and helps Shadow Tails in Riders: Cool and radical bad-ass with his great voice! Tails in Storybook series (especially Black Knight): Helpful and playable, once again Tails in Unleashed and Rivals series: Not much to say. Tails in Rush series: Decent. I also like the Tails X Marine relationships. Tails in Colors: Makes shitty jokes and is a tech-nerd Tails in Generations: Cheerleader. Not a playable character, which is a disappointment not being able to play as him. Tails in Lost-World: Always angsty. Tails in Boom (incl. TV show, a not so bad TV show): Not so generic character. Still helpful like in Heroes and '06 (Although that Zooey X Tails moment was awkward, in my opinion at least.) Tails in Mania (incl. the shorts): Defeats Metal Sonic and Hard-Boiled Heavies (decent villains BTW) and gets all chaos emeralds to become Super-Tails. Tails in Forces: Pathetic wimp who's scared of Chaos 0 even though he killed Chaos 4 in SA1. Tails in TSR: Radical bad-ass, like in Riders. I'm not saying Tails sucks, I love Tails, but I feel disappointed by recent portrayals in recent games like Lost World, Forces and Colors. Hopefully the Sonic movie sequel will portray him very well.
Totally agree on most points. I, however, love that they gave Tails a bit of attitude in Lost World. It was refreshing because Sonic often patronises him. But it does veer on the side of douchey and we don’t want that.
I agree! I kinda like the more sassy side of Tails as long as it’s justified. It gives him a bit of an edge and more of a personality than just the “smart one.”
Tails is my favorite charachter in the series depsite all of this because of the development he did have. The adventure games and Sonic X portrayed him at his absolute best, with season 3 giving him a really cool charachter arc that lead to him willingly taking on Shadow without hesitation. THAT is what Tails should be right now, he has the potentail to be a really unique fighter ontop of that but the most they've ever explored it with is the mech in Sonic adventure 2.
It's great! Tails is my favorite character. He's cute, smart and helpful. Sonic was lucky to have him as a friend and sidekick. Tails did had his own games in the past. In those games he was a hero. Tails Adventure, Tails Sky Partrol and Tails Music Maker. Without those games Tails wouldn't been known as a hero. In Sonic 3 you can play as Tails and make him a hero. I wish there were more games with Tails as the hero, defeating Dr. Eggman.
I want a real Tails. The one who was a young, humble kid, but smart, crafty and brave, like in Sonic X. Not a joke he's been for the past 10 shitty years or so.
To the people who complain about Tails fleeing from the Dark Gaia monsters in Unleashed instead of fighting them, you do know he would've gotten infected/possessed by them if he fought them, right?
I don't know what to say other than how great this explains tails' character. Also who else misses when tails sound like a young kid, it had a special cute "tails" charm I don't think any voice has now.
Robotnik: You fool. Away, before I make mincemeat out of you! Tails: I'm not scared... I'm not scared... I can do this... by myself! We need THIS version of Tails back in the series again. Lost World and Forces absolutely BUTCHERED him! A decade's worth of character development, all down the drain! What a waste.
Lost world tails was arguably better than you give credit for. He saw eggmans betrayal coming, stood face to face with sonic, and had enough balls to call sonic out on it and contest with eggman. Just like any young boy, tails was finally feeling himself, and was stepping out to establish that he was at the very least on par with any other genius. That's why the sacrifice push, imo was a good moment. Even though he clashes with sonic in the game, that moment showed that he still saw sonic as a his best friend, and as the true hero, and was willing to put himself in harms way to make sure that his best friend was safe. _How_ he did it is objectionable, but tails clashing with both sonic and eggman in lost world shows that he was (or should have been) finally coming into his own character.
In Lost World, Tails was so self-centered like his ego is more important than the state of the world. Sonic never expressed interest in working with Eggman, but Tails goes off like the doctor's his new best buddy.
@@charactersin-depth3472 i know. It was terribly written, but it does resemble how most young boys tend to change when they start to growing out of their old selves. The way they wrote it leaves a hell of a lot to be desired, but the overall characterization can be justified. By then, he has fought alongside sonic against majorly powerful foes, and has fought against eggman enough to know eggman is a backstabbing bastard. They could have written it far better, and not made him come off as a jealous ass, but the overall personality, alongside the fact that he was right about eggman, made it work... well enough. Unlike forces, where even after everything he's been shown to have handled, with and without sonic, he still somehow is terrified of enemies who he has already taken on while at the absolute peak of their powers. Tails is my favorite character, and lost world, while badly written, to me, made enough sense. He's been around the block more than enough to call sonic out on trusting eggman.
@@vla1ne I feel the difference is that Lost World does so much damage to Tails` character; I agree with your general sentiment, and it wasn't a bad idea to take Tails in such a direction as a character. But it being so poorly written is why it sticks out so much more, because instead of feeling like someone insecure of his position and losing out to his arch enemy, it does come off as him just being an entitled brat.
@@sonic5993 yeah, i can see that. If the writers weren't so godawful, so many sonic games, and could have been so much better. But that's not the case.
Tails can't be a little kid forever. Sonic Adventure proves he can't always be dependent on other's nor Sonic. He will have to over come his own troubles.
The utter butchering and fladerization of Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow (whose death shouldn’t have been retconned in the first place, a major misstep even before the dark age) is part of why I don’t like the series as a whole anymore. The characters are the *identity* of the series, and now just like the characters, the identity of the series is an unfunny meme that will die this decade if things don’t start improving and soon
Shadow when written right was easily the best character in the franchise keeping a character as good as him dead despite his potential would be asinine.
This also applies to Sonic. In the past, he was a cocky, but adventurous, caring and compassionate man. He wasn't a hero, not even a villain. He did what is right. Nowadays, he's a shitty comedian. Thanks Colors.
I actually like when Tails is a little smug. Not a full blown douche, but he hangs around Sonic since forever, some of the edge was going to get him. Also is nice when brotherly figures exchange sass
Playing and beating Tails' SA1 story was a huge deal to me as a kid, partially because I felt like I'd actually grown with the character I was playing as. Now though, it saddens me to see what Tails has been reduced to over the years. Whiny, cowardly, boring, confusing, and even BRATTY, something we never see from him even in the early games. I just don't get it. SA1 and 2 was like the peak of Sega's character development, then things just took a fat nose dive. It's sad to see.
Screw what the (toxic, fake side of the) Tails fanbase says, he never had a right to be mad at Sonic yet he did it anyways. And no, just because he’s a kid doesn’t mean we’ll cut him slack!
Tails is my favorite character. I love how OP he is in S3&K, and despite joking about when he said "Heh, I did it all by myself!" when I was controlling him all along, I still felt proud of him at the end of his SA1 story
I've heard some people argue that just because Tails got character development in the Advertising games, that doesn't mean his dependent trait goes away. But, like, isn't the point of character development supposed to make a character move on from certain traits and leave them in the past?
I too love the character arc from the adventure. But hay, anyone would be put under presher if they need to save the world in 3 days. As for 06, I think it was about friendship. And as for later games, I think he's a late bloomer to the effects of Dark Gaia.
@@ChiefMedicPururu ...Ok? I was just trying to say that Adventure 2 (if this is what that guy above was referring to) didn't age well, especially in terms of story and character interactions. I personally don't get why people are bitching about that one Forces moment. It has been 6 months since Sonic's dissapearance and world was taken in 99% by Eggman, Tails most likely lost some of his hope by then and people expected him to be some kind of ultra badass in that moment, really? He was most likely surprised by Chaos's sudden appearance and was tired from all the fighting.
@@pawenewman138 Nice straw-man fallacy. If you want to defend that scene by saying *"He'S jUsT a KiD!!!",* then I'll let you know that Charmy was 2 years younger than Tails, and yet he was capable of combat.
@@tiruliru1189 Chill, I've slightly changed my opinion since then, Forces as a whole is a mess, especially when it comes to story and it's characters so Tails's reaction may have felt little out of character but I think that it could be somewhat explained, like I said, the world has been taken in 99% by Eggman and Sonic was gone for 6 months therofere Tails most likely lost some of his hope by then, and besides Chaos along with his clone buddies whooped Sonic's ass, and Sonic>Tails, so it's understandable that Tails would be afraid, it could have been handled better tho, and besides, thanks to "Two Worlds" we can't be sure that some of the past things (such as Tails fighting Chaos 0) happened the same way or even happened at all, blame Sega for this. And also, Charmy along with the rest of Sonic's friends (besides Tails of course) were planks of wood who didn't do shit, Tails atleast slightly contributed in one of the final confrontations by helping the Avatar.
Tails is a fucking badass. I don't care what anyone says. He was so useful in the classic games. As a kid in the 90s, I played through Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K with my grandmother playing as Tails and me as Sonic. I'd get us through the stage and to the boss as Sonic, then she'd beat the shit out of the bosses as Tails. It's funny, cause to this day I still identify Tails with my grandmother so much that I subconsciously think of him as having many of her characteristics and mannerisms, even though he's never been depicted with them, haha.
Tails is my favourite character and it makes me furious how the writers make him so useless or a coward or just use him as the "smarty pants" or the nerd one. I think he should have more developement and more personality like before.
Truth be told, I think Sega is too reliant on the Classic era that it's starting to get shoved in Modern games. I know the Classic era is what started it all, but come on, characters grow as much as we do, and Tails' arc in the adventure games was a perfect example of that. Heck, even Amy got some character growth in Adventure! Actually, Classic Sonic was always meant to be in Forces, how it was handled however makes it off. They tied it in with Sonic Mania well as the Phantom Ruby came from the Classic dimension, but how he's just on for the ride while Tails does all of the geeky stuff is poor. Which is why I think this would work. If someone was to rewrite Sonic Forces, I'd go with this idea. Sonic did indeed get pummelled by Infinite, but when Tails was seeing his best friend near to lights out, he puts the scanner aside and jumps into the frame, stopping Shadow, dodging Zavok, but is hit by Infinite, then pinned by Chaos while Metal goes in for a hit to Sonic then Infinite gives Sonic the final blow, but just before they can do anything else, Sally jumps in and saves the two boys (yes, I know Sally is non-canon and shouldn't be in the games, but the fact that Forces was practically based off the SatAM series and the Archie Comics on the war idea, this would make sense). The three fight the former foes until the Sky-Patrol comes in to pick them up, but Sally is weakened in battle and is captured by Eggman. Sonic and Tails watch in horror as their closest friend is dragged down by Metal while their Freedom Fighter colleagues hold them back. While the avatar heroes and the Resistance find out Sally is alive, Sonic and Tails have been under cover for six months, continuing the fight by going through a few of Eggman's bases, then when Sonic finds out Sally's alive, he leaves Tails back on earth to go up into space to save her while Tails carried on the fight. When soldiers are attacked by Chaos in the city, Tails jumps in and fights until he's pinned down again. Then Classic Sonic comes to the rescue and the pair take Chaos out. The story from there basically plays out similar to the game, but Tails is more helpful.
Sonics “death”should’ve have had the biggest impact on Tails, both in 06 and in forces. But iirc it might as well have been like he didn’t care. This is Sonics little brother and best friend. He deserves more respect sega.
It’s like considering his flanderization in mid-2000s - 2010s games, Tails thinks Sonic deserved to die after all the bad things he thinks he’s done and will eventually do like play with his (and Amy’s) emotions in episode 20 of Sonic X (Cruise Blues), steal his crush in the mid-2000s Archie issues and leave everyone to think he was dead just for them to decide that maybe he should have stayed dead (issues 134-179), stand up Amy Rose on one of their dates in episode 42 of Sonic X (A Date to Forget), compare him mega to belt to Eggman and especially himself in Sonic Lost World, not protect him in Sonic Unleashed & Forces when Tails is perfectly capable of himself, make Knuckles mad even though he made himself mad just to fight with Sonic, etc. Thank god this isn’t the Tails we get anymore, because Tails has been FIXED in 2022 like in the Sonic Adventure games with the Sonic movie, Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Prime!
I know that when you make these videos there's always that person that agrees after they watch the video. But tails has always been my favorite character ever since I saw him in SonicX, I know that I didn't start as far back as you did with this character but he's always stood out to me. Also yes I adore foxes and that makes me already like him but he's just so nice and pure, mixed with his intelligence. (Spoilers up ahead for SonicX) he even does what is right and shoots at the person he loves in order to save everyone. He's such a good guy, In every single game or show I've seen him in he's been nothing but pure good and I admire him
Tails is probably my favorite sonic character. And his progression from timid sidekick kid to perhaps a little *over*confident tech whiz is something I really enjoyed watching. But the problem is.... the newer games don't really do it right. They just write him either as a complete wuss or as a stereotypical "science/tech guy". Neither are right for the character. The proper way to write tails is as a side hero who's a bit unsure of himself but still entirely competent at what he does, even if he may not believe it himself. It's a bit unfortunate that the way tails shines is through this sort of character development progression, which makes it hard to stay as a static thing, which is probably why they struggle to write him consistently. I think SA2 took the right approach in that regard. And yeah, each game that comes out they just write him worse and worse.
@@insertunoroginalnamehere6189 Hey it's me yep! I'm about to pack up and prepare for my solo adventure now that the gang got back from the Starfall Islands :)
Are we going to ignore that one time he defeated an entire army on his own, and that other time when he liberated an island from a wicked witch - also on his own?
Tails is still the best video game sidekick in my opinion. I'd definitely wouldn't mind if he had more solo games. Too bad he's more of coward nowadays. Lookin at you Forces.
Guess what bruh he’s completely killed off in terms of personality in frontiers I have absolutely no clue as to why fans prefer him now guess they cried hard enough for Ian Flynn because he got rid of him at the end of the game Tails is completely different and not in a good way I miss the old him
@@charactersin-depth3472 That's one idea. Or maybe Tails upgraded the mech to be able to fly around just like him, with him being able to leave and do his own flying at will.
I have an idea for tails in a newer sonic game, perhaps he could be a playable character who's levels are more puzzle oriented due to him being big brain
Also Archie Tails: 😭 sonic is dead 😭 *HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED DEAD AFTER STEALING MY CRUSH EVEN THOUGH I AM TOO YOUNG TO DATE HER PLUS SHE WOULD BREAK MY HEART LIKE SALLY WOULD TO SONIC* Movie Tails: *me has never been so cute since me was classic tails* Sonic Lost World Tails: *YOU BITE, SONIC* Sonic Boom Tails: 😂 (RoL version: Not cool, Sonic! You locked us in! (Also Knuckles’ line and Amy’s mindset, but still)
Tails is THE prime example for how SEGA has botched their characters as of the last decade. I remember seeing his behavior in Forces and being all "Wait, what, seriously?". Honestly, Forces was the game that finally snapped me awake to realize just how bad this last decade has been for the writing of Sonic. Before, I was complacent, but after that and playing SA and SA2, I was snapped awake and finally saw just how bad the modern era is. Please, SEGA for the love of all that is good in the world, please fix these characters. And maybe watch this guy's vids, he's almost always spot-on.
Well I may not have an excitation for heroes. But props for him and Knuckles being there for him in 06. And for Unleashed, I think Dark Guia's effect was very slowly taking effect. And maybe the effect of Dark Guia was finally taking effect. Sins Dark Guia had a virus that bot out the worst in people. Maybe Tails was a late bloomer.
That's quite a stretch, since Dark Gaia was soundly defeated at the end of Unleashed and all that negative influence was taken away with him. I REFUSE to defend how badly Forces butchered Tails no matter what explanation people try to come up with. Across the many canons, Tails has suffered so much; he's an orphan, was bullied for his appearance, had a crush on a girl (Fiona Fox in the Archie comics) who didn't love him back, was SLAPPED by the same girl when she betrayed the heroes, befriended an actually nice girl (Cosmo) only to be forced to kill her to save the galaxy from the Metarex, and then the scene from Forces! 😡 I really hate bullying, both in real life and in fiction!
When I was younger I was never able to get through the classic games and regarded it as something I wouldn't be able to do. But when sonic 2 came out on Google play I got the game and I was determined to give it a shot. Now I'm on wing fortress and I can't believe that I came this far and there is only one reason why. (Well two one I got older and tried to take my time) but the main reason is because of Tails. He's so hopeful he helped smashed bots, catch me if I fell of, lifted me to places I couldn't reach and getting rings. This dude is so helpful and I'm waiting to see him at this level of helpful in the new games.
