Long, fast descents over smooth roads pampered by CalTrans, with wide turns, little traffic, and the wind is the only sound. My favorite descent. And the climb is not so bad. No crazy gradients, just heat in the summer and, yes, a very long climb.
33 is a hidden gem. Quite the scenery and very little traffic. Middle of nowhere type vibes. Great vid as always! Another one for the trainer playlist.
Thanks guys, really enjoyed watching this. I was there (from the UK) a few years ago, doing some solo touring. I arrived in Ojai earlier than anticipated so rode UP this road to the top of the second descent in the video and then turned around and coasted most of the way down. 50mph on a loaded touring bike is fine until you hit a hole in the road, which I did just before those tunnels, and your rear light detaches itself from the bike and hits the surface in a hundred pieces! Luckily, I only had to get to Santa Monica the following day so there was no need for night riding. Hope to come back and ride the Californian hills again some day.
@@aygwm with 23-28mm road tires you don't need disc brakes.. Now gravel or MTB is completely different story, but on road bike disc brakes are nothing but marketing.. If anything PRO racers crash more now due to blocked wheels..
This area of SoCal is so beautiful. I cycled Hwy 33/Ojai Trail yesterday from Ventura to Ojai return and Hwy 150. Where the traffic is like the 405. Yet on the northern side of Hwy 33 from Ojai not a car on the road. Amazing difference. Were both of you running 28 cm tires or wider?
Amazing scenery. Is that road as nice as it looks in the video? Incredible riding as well. I had a brief stint at 34 mph today, looks like you guys might have averaged that!
There was some road construction by the tunnel but it looks like that's complete, and the area burned in the Thomas fire (2017) but it is substantially recovered. Scenery very typical for Santa Barbara / Ventura county coastal mountain routes, many others similar to this but the 33 is one of the longest if not the longest climb/descent in the area, and less busy than most, though I would ride it on a weekday morning like these guys did.
@@SAFABrian Yeah ur right. Was lucky to get the addict rc 15 this year with new ultegra di2 - and man am I a lucky guy with a big smile in my face on every ride!
Brian, your videos are just epic, but you'll really have to fix the audio, one day. When you're going down fast, your aurio is really crap. It's a shame!
hello sir did you notice the error google map api on garmin virb edit? mine not showing anymore. i cant track my footage. says my browser is not supported by google maps api.
