the Taino people are not dead. the DNA still flows in the blood of people from all over the Caribbean. We may have been stripped of our culture but we are still here! That being said, this is just a tourist attraction and probably has nothing todo with the real music or dances of the Taino. Research on all of this is fast and free and easily verified online nowadays.

@@AdventuresofGonzo That's my point. Tourists shouldn't be replicating anything from cultures they aren't a part of. It does not pay homage to the culture, it mocks it. No one knows how Taino's danced because they were mercilessly slaughtered. But now "tourists" are going to tell us how they danced. Sometimes those same tourists look like those who slaughtered them. I'm not here to argue, I just wish people who did this would understand that.

My dream from my 6th birthday is to meet people like Taino people. I am European but I always felt a deep connection to first nations culture. I'm just afraid that I will never have the opportunity to live that... I'm 27 years old and have no clue how I can meet Taino people 😢

I swear, folks are getting butthurt about what they themselves aren't even well versed in. How do you know what the Taino natives looked like or what their culture was about? Too dark? They lived in the Caribbean... This is as real as the "Japanese" chefs at the resort's hibachi restaurant lol!... If I recall correctly, their name-tags read (NO JOKE!!): Honda, Mitsubishi, and Toyota!!!! ha! I love my people! Anyways, as some have pointed out already, the music, dance, and even people in this video indirectly reflect our African heritage more than Taino.

It’s just funny to me that most people of color (brown, yes, brown “mutts” like ME) in my dear country of birth, the Dominican Republic, claim that our pigmentation comes from our Taino genetics, when in reality it mostly comes from our African genetics. I’m not saying Taino genetics have been eliminated completely! I’m pretty sure it took Africans, Taínos, and Europeans mixing to make our beautiful “Mutt of a breed” 😝. If you are Dominican, I just want you to realize and admit that Dominicans don’t really want to be known as being from African descent… especially the old school folks (must be a Trujillo era thing 🤷🏾‍♂️) I love my people, but I came to this realization when my obviously black, Dominican grandmother encouraged me to “marry white”! 😂 At the end of the day we are all mutts anyways. Tainos emerged from some other peoples who mixed and so on and so forth all the way back to our original parents. . . so does it really matter?

Yo me hice una prueva de ancestros por adn y salio que tenia 5% europeo 15% asia este, 22% africano y 48% resto es de origen especificamente nativo arahuaco y luego aprendí que los tainos muchos tenian esa desendencia el reto decia *no especificado asi que en eso pues no se 😅. Pero desde así comenze aprender muchas cosas y mentiras que nos dicen en la escuela sobre los Tainos en Puerto Rico. Mi familia viene de centro y costa de la isla por lo que explica como mi herencia se ha preservado. Los rasgos de las personas de costa y centro de Puerto Rico son distintas a los de la temprana y ahora metrópolis

This is a hard question to answer as most people would say that being Taino depends on your blood. Tainos did not believe in blood making you a part of their people. If you spoke the language and knew the culture as well as lived with them you were Taino, blood is a European ideology. This is mostly an African Dance because there isn’t much evidence of the Tainos and their dances, much of it was erased and not many people do know of their ancestors and connect with them in the DR.
