@@Void-fb5ts No that's what I mean by it was known by Bumbo. What im saying is that it wasn't in the binding of isaac video game till now. If you wanted to know about the narrator being isaacs dad you had to play Legend of Bumbo since it wasn't said in the Binding of Isaac. But now its said in the binding of isaac.
My understanding is that Isaac DOES die, and his conversation with his father and seemingly happy outcome is him going to heaven and living out the life he deserved there, with loving parents, in a small house on a hill. It's clearly and strongly implied by the cutscene directly following the beast fight that he is, in fact, dead, and it SEEMS very much like he's rising up to heaven, with the radiant light and wings, and his earthly regrets in the form of ???, Lost, and Forgotten falling away from him. Honestly, with this interpretation, I REALLY enjoy the ending. Feels dark enough to be befitting of the rest of the game, but still lets you feel that bittersweet happiness of knowing he's in a better place.
He's dead, but he went to heaven. His heaven is getting to be with his dad in the times before everything fell apart, creating stories like what was shown in Bumbo.
I was thinking the exact same thing, isaac died in the closet, dilerious and alone, due to his mother's carelessness and his father's absence, the only thing he ever wanted was his parents to be together and happy. That's why the story clearly states "And they were both happy" his mothers happiness mattered alot to isaac, even after the mistreatment. Alot of his drawings of his mother were very grotesque, but he was imitating her too, the character Magdalene proves that. He only wanted to be closer to his mother and father, and because the perspective of a child is one that is often misunderstood or ignorant, we see a somewhat fragmented view of what really was going on.
@@rinbin4234 I think that Lazarus could also be Isaac imagining that he's just like his dad/his dad reborn/repeating his same mistakes etc (similar to the saying: like father, like son).Especially when his mom tells him he's "just like his father" But to be completely honest the entire life of Isaac (and part of the reason why I love it so much) is that it's all up to your interpretation. Its all pretty vague and you only get certain information if you complete the game a certain way. Although there's the obvious biblical references etc to me the style of the Isaac storyline is the biggest correlation with religion, it's all up to interpretation. If 100 different people read the Bible or Qur'an or Torah or any holy book they'd probably have 100 different interpretation of the passages (plus different translations/social standards influencing your view). I really think this is the best part of the games lore and is one of the best and worst parts of religion
@@alix6xgorg839 Legend of Bum-Bo. Its a spinoff game meant to be a prequel showing why Isaac's mental world is like this. (Its on Steam, if you're interested. I haven't played it myself, though. So I don't know what its like.)
@@risinghonor7 Most damage you take comes from one hit every couple of rooms. Holy mantle dramatically increases survivability because it mitigates one-off mistake damage, which is where most of it comes from anyways
Honestly even the "happy" ending is sad, because canonically Isaac died. When it goes over the memories of his life, the happy moments that he had, it's basically his life literally flashing before his eyes and him coming to terms with it before thinking of his stories with his father and passing on... That's how i see it anyway.
I'd like to be more optimistic, and believe that while he did die, his father was there to see him ascend to heaven and forgive himself of the sin Isaac believed he had.
@@gooseman6882 bro, edmund the creator of the game literally has said "Isaac is dead" like canonically. the game itself is a snapshot of time, events that are out of order and shrouded by metaphors, buy literally the most concrete aspect of the lore is he dies.
The nail in the coffin for whether or not Isaac is dead is the item unlocked when you beat 100% of the game. It's an active item that let's you take literally any one item in the game from a dev area. Even ones that aren't normally obtainable like Mom's shovel or the Dogma item. The item is named Death Certificate.
Yea he got sad so he crawled in a crate in his room and died of asphyxiation then went to heaven and the entire game is in his head (same with bumbo) This is a rough explanation but it’ll do

The part that hits me the most about all of this is that having watched Hutts since way back when, the part where the narrator says that Isaac was reunited with Guppy stings because I miss seeing Lenny being in the videos RIP Lenny, you'll always be missed
Something I recently realized- Dogma's first form is like a fetus from the TV, probably because Isaac kinda feels like religion is his mother's 'second child' and that she loves it more than him
It all makes sense. Isaac has a wild imagination. He made all these monsters but deep down he thought he is the monster. And after death, he was finally happy. He made himself a world where everything was perfect.
No matter how many times I hear this ending, all I can think of is Issac's Dad reading the "Issac of Issac" mod version. "Issac and his Issac lived in a small Issac..."
Isaac's story has hit me hard... I currently am struggling with my mental health. As a kid I thought that I was the reason that my family was fighting all the time. That I was the reason that my family was torn asunder. I really feel weird atm...

I’ve had to walk out on a girl who I was with for 2 years she has a daughter who was 1 when I arrived, it got toxic and we were arguing, as soon as I saw it was affecting the daughter I told the mother that it was time to call it a day, the little girl called me dad and I saw her as my own it was one of the toughest decisions of my life

@@scarez3423 Yeah they are great defensivly and offensivly and honestly I always liked the Angel Room's items aesthetics and the Seraphim transformstion more then the Devil Room's and the Leviathan transformation so I love this switch up
while true it hurts not having godhead unlocked which is now HARDER to unlock as it requires killing mother and dogma (I can't even get to mother, dogma is one thing but that mom ghost chase ignores extra lives so my best lost run ever got ripped to it)
Well considering how they killed uh, basically 90% of all items to "try and balance" them in a PvE game it is cool as hell to see at least one item pool is still good. Even if it's the Angel Room pool, which has never really been good beforehand.
Anyone else feel like there should be an Easter Egg where Crack the Sky can kill the beast (at least the post-Horsemen phase) in one hit, a la Bible and Mom/It Lives? Anticlimactic, but fitting given the ending.
I like to Imagine that, Isaac died in the chest and all the stuff about his past did really happen, like how he saw his shadow in the closet, how he portrayed himself in the mirror as evil, and stuff like that, but after he died, he stayed in home, it's soul would not rest, slowly turning to blue baby, then to forgotten, then to lost, and then, he basically saw his mother crying for what she has done, he realized his mother WAS really bad, and stuff, but like, he accepted it, remembering the things from his past, as we see in this ending, then he went to heaven, and since heaven could be just a manifestation of what someone's best place of his life was, maybe he's living with some healthy representation's of his parents in heaven, like some kind of replacement copy that will stay for as long as it needs in order to give Isaac's happiness, or until their real counterparts come, maybe they were bad but they didn't actually kill kim, so if they stay in the path of righteusness, maybe they will go with Isaac too.

What I find very interesting is during that last memory of Dad how him saying "I'm sorry, Isaac" was very low quality audio, identical to the vanilla Binding of Isaac Dad voice lines. Could that technically be like the start of Isaac's descent into suicidal depression and how the vanilla Binding of Isaac starts to become a thing in his head? Something like that? Maybe?
beast is also referenced as the mother of harlots. my theory is the beast is how isaac sees his mother. another (probably most definitely true) theory is that the beast is, well, the beast. from the bible.

The ending dialogue between Isaac/Dad to me is like this: Isaac has died, he's raising to Heaven. His life is flashing before his eyes, seeing all the bad stuff that happened to him/that he thought he caused. As he got closer to Heaven, his worry and shame left him, he then starts seeing his own personal Heaven, then when he gets there, nothing. He comes to again and Guppy is alive, his parents are happy and he feels safe. The part with Dad saying "Are you sure this is how you want this story to end, Isaac?" and telling him he can make it happier if he wants, is Isaac fully in his own Heaven, rewriting his story and being peaceful for eternity. It is a happy ending, he's not in pain anymore, he's happy.
he looks like the sheriff in a cartoon thats always asleep with the keys to the jail in a chain thats conveniently open to anyone that manages to reach their hand far enough
Idk after rewatching that ending at the very least it feels like Isaac had a near death experience. Like based on that last ending I would assume. That (wether he died and is in the Afterlife or he survived barely and is now in custody of his father does not really matter to be honest) he is now one way or another with his father or a father figure working through the trauma that happened to him by retelling the story with imagination and we are essentially in the game playing through the story. So no matter if Isaac is alive or not he is now mentally healing which is nice. I would like to believe that in the chest he only lost consciousness and that after going to the hospital, since no matter how bad his mother is she would at least not have him just die right there, she lost custody and he is now with his dad. However does it really matter? The ending shows that he is coming to terms with whatever happened I think it is fitting either way.
I love that Tim isn’t as loud and has a calmer tone, as well as an updated animation. And the fact that hutts showed old Tim hi fiving new tim, showing they’re different people. Or maybe they are the same the same person? But hey, that’s just a theory, A GAME THEORY-
Since we know Isaac canonically dies (suffocation in a toy chest), it's sort of implied that the very end cutscene is Isaac and his dad in heaven retelling the story? IIRC the Hanged Man are references about his father.

Coming back to this 2 years later, I stand with my opinion that I don't care that the other endings exist. Sure, Ed said "No, he's dead". I will always die on the hill that "If you made a happy ending, it is as canonical as all the others". There's nothing for me to discuss here either.
Ive seen the ending so many times now, and it still gives me chills. So much nostalgia and callbacks, and finishing with the opening words makes me nearly cry. We have played this game for years and its an incredible ending. Beautiful, Ed.
That ending feels to me like its one of the flashbacks isaac has before ascending, like how in the story isaac makes, after beating the mother of harlots, isaac ascends and his life flashes before his eyes, this whole dad telling the story may have been an important part of isaac's life when he was still happy, and now he sees it again for one last time before he passes away
Honestly the way I see it Dad isnt meant to be a perfect person. He’s sinful, he’s done wrong, but Isaac’s mother was just the worst with how choking her devotion to christianity was. She was a zealot. A monster. The way I see the end, is possibly a case of Mom having custody until Dad managed to get him.
What this game needs is either a golden ending or a sequel with a golden ending but as if Ed got any time or interest doing that. Let's just call the final ending the good ending. I don't care what Ed says. He clearly doesn't know what's best for Isaac.
If you pay attention. Hutts took Devil Items, while trying to get Angel. And then suddenly, he gained more power through the Angel Items. And with the way the story ends... It's like Isaac's Faith is realized
Just out of curiosity, what happens if you DO take a red key up to home as a tinted character? Can you just open the character unlock room and there's nothing there? Or can you not even open the room? Or is there something cool there to see?
I laughed so hard when I saw you dying on that curse room door, but I didn't recognized that you can go to it for free if you transform into the lost. So I tried that on my next run, and exectly that happened to me. So I also died to a curse room door

with the ending, I like to think it’s showing us that perhaps in another time, where isaac’s parents’ divorce wasn’t messy and his life didn’t end up a tragedy, isaac’s dad has joint custody and just tells stories with his son. somewhere isaac is happy. :’)
Isaac and his Isaac lived alone in a small Isaac on an Isaac. Isaac kept to himself, drawing Isaac and playing with his Isaacs, while his Isaac watched Christian Isaac on the Isaac.
Hutts you forgot one thing that made this run not reach the maximum. The ladder is useless after the final(first) floor so you could have vacuumed it and been stronger with another item.
