I am new to the Shakuhachi (just joined!) but I am learning the Quena . The maintenance advice for these (they are made of cane or wood) is to oil inside and out. Why not oil inside with a Shakuhachi? I really like your channel by the way, a mine of information nicely done :)
Welcome in! I am so sorry it took me so long to respond to you. Your comment was held for review! We don't want to oil the inside of the shakuhachi because it is lacquered with Urushi. Even the outside doesn't really need oiling if you are playing it everyday. Your hands have natural oils that will protect the flute, and also give it a wonderful color overtime. Happy playing!
