STORYLINE:
The presidential palace in Manila was filled with swooning fans - not for a Hollywood superstar, neither was it for a Filipino star - it was for Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan.
While it may be difficult to see Taiwanese government officials visiting the palace officially because of the Philippine's "one-China policy", Yan was not only at the palace, he was even met by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Screaming fans lined the halls of the presidential residence, waiting for a glimpse of their favourite actor, who stars in a Taiwanese soap opera aired locally and dubbed in Filipino.
The crowd was not restricted to the young - even Gina de Venecia, the wife of Congress Speaker Jose de Venecia, was at the palace to see Yan.
Wen Yan emerged after the meeting with Arroyo, mostly women fans, couldn't contain their emotions.
Yan is in town to shoot an advert for a local clothing company.
His TV series called "Meteor Garden" was a surprise hit, and continues to gain following from Filipino audiences.
