10 year old Taj Farrant was invited to play with Santana at The Las Vegas House of Blues. Watch Taj WOW Santana with amazing skills! NEW MERCH OUT NOW teespring.com/...
Not only did he give more juice to the kids amp. He complimented his playing instead of trying to outshine him. A true master and shows he appreciates the future talent and no animosity. What a great jam session. Especially love the little conversation they had with each other on their guitars at the end. Lol
I appreciate the fact that you noticed that also he sure is a very classy guy and secure in his own music and he helps this incredibly gifted young man with a bright future I do think he tries to be a lot like SRV but I couldn't think of a better influence than him when it comes to the blues music
Few decades back seen buddy guy whom had young child around same age. Buddy after a few licks told this young man come from the shadows up front and jam along side of me. That child goes by the name Joe Bonamassa... Flash back lol
Carlos Santana has nothing but class, he always has. I love him to bits and always will. "Promise of a Fisherman" Pffft, you can see God with that one.
I wonder who he used to be? I mean before, in a previous life. Because I can understand how someone this young can accomplish this technically. But when you watch his face as he's playing. The way he's feeling it. You can't teach and you can't learn that. It's something that has to from within. And at such a young age, you have wonder if it's like "unfinished business" from before. From somewhere back in time?
@@TheHitman- Forgive me for refuting your assertion, but with well over six decades of life on this planet, I've been fortunate enough to have a number of experiences that prove otherwise.
@@TheHitman- Not at all my friend. Just know what I've experienced. Besides far too many conflate God with Religion. I'm not an advocate of the latter. Happen to think it's the politics of belief. Then again, we all need to believe our lies right?
Carlos is teaching you how to let the others share the stage and shine too. Together, everyone on stage work to give the greatest performance for the audience. When everyone has their time to shine, it allows you to shine just as bright as ever. Keep learning from the masters. They will teach you how to shine without burning out. Awesome job, Taj.
I'd say all those guys got schooled a bit somewhere in there. To put it simply: the kids got it. Not when he's 20, not when he graduates from being a "M.I. guy". He just has it. & I'd say he already has musical maturity. You can see it when he stops playing then points to Santana to go next. That look on his face for example, there's no "I'm better than this guy" look on his face, which he has been told at least a million times by now... that look is just what every decent player feels when the spirit's decide to get a hold of you. How many times did your belly fill with mariposas, or those little hairs stand up on your arms or neck during that performance when "he" was playing? That look on his his face is the result of music personified. It was the reason why after I picked the guitar up at around the same age, I never put it down until recently... and I won't bore you with the pages of reasons why I finally gave up, or had to grow up.... Wow, that performance was powerful! Game changing. Awesome job kid... Keep doing what you're doing:}
Carlos definitely knows how to let others shine. He knows when to hold back and when to let loose. This is why he is the master. Watch his performance with Faith Hill.
This young man has got my Body parts moving that I forgot I had and that's what a master can do!!! I'm so old I phst dust so getting me moving is hard !!!!!! Thank you for making my life a better place to be in. You are gonna go far !!!!! This man all could listen to you play 24/7 !!
@Flyfishthebordersandbeyond - You are right, Farrant should learn to acknowledge others like Freddy Mercury did when another band member had a solo. He never just stood there or walked away for a soda, but acknowledged and danced with them and air guitared with them. He took joy in other's playing.
@@MossyMozart At 10 years of age, I'd say he gets it pretty quickly. I 've known so many guys who are great players, but either never get it because of their egos or for some their ignorance and selfishness.
My daughter knew how to strum strings on one of my acoustic guitars at 4 months. Like right away. I brought it over to her and I thought "how does she even know that these strings are meant to be strummed and to make a sound?" I'm working on her rhythm now. She plays my little conga drum while I play my guitar or whatever I have laying near me. My family goes back at least 8 generations of professional musicians. She's definitely got it. Maybe she'll be on stage with you one day, Taj. You can turn her amp up. BTW she's watching this with me now.
@@candelariadelazar4390 it skipped over some generations, for instance, my uncles could play, but they didn't take it seriously and didn't pursue it. But it goes back. Thank you for your compliment. It's the Polish side of my lineage that has the music gene. I probably have 1000 year old ancestors who played accordion in a Polka quartet. 😆
He ain’t nothing but a old man in a little person’s body. He doesn’t mine showing what he is working with. He feels every note he plays. Babyboy is so blessed he has a god given talent. My inspiration I enjoy listening to him while I fall asleep it’s so relaxing. Nothing but love for him and hopefully one day I’ll get to see him in person.
God I do love Santana he is so fresh and full of awesome kindness. This kid is in such a happy place to be. So much great talent on that stage!!! This kid has such beautiful riffs.
It was cool of Carlos to hold back and let the kid rip and show his stuff. Carlos was way underplaying so as to not steal thunder from this extremely talented young guy.
Oh my dear fluffy Lord!!! This kid plays like he's possessed by the spirit of Blues. To be 10 years old and jam with Carlos Santana is freaking amazing.
For Taj to be able to go toe to toe with Carlos-wow. This 10 year old kid is an absolute prodigy. There is no reading music or simply memorizing a song. He was ad libbing with one of the greatest guitar players in the world. And he matched him in both improve and banter and carry. That is truly incredible. Anyone that plays guitar would understand that it takes years to be able to do that. This little boy is 3 years into playing. It's hard to say where he can take the guitar - he has very flawless techniques now-
That simple little shoulder tap from Carlos as he pointed toward the keyboardist will benefit Taj greatly as he goes forward. Such a gentle lesson from the master, yet so profound at the same time.
I love how Santana was so gracious and taught/demonstrated to Taj how to appreciate and give the spotlight to other musicians.. Not to mention giving themselves a break
Carlos was 17 when he stood in front of 500.000 people at Woodstock, he was trippin so hard on purple microdot he had to close his eye almost the whole way thru Soul Sacrifice... This kid is only 10 !!! And he's already playing like the Masters. Incredible. ✌️
Carlos was 22 @ Woodstock. Even so, the Santana band's performance was extraordinary. Taj is great but not surprisingly still learning stagecraft. If he's mentored right and stays grounded he's going to be an incredible adult player.
@@busker-nh5le I think he's got some pretty impressive stage presence right now, and it's only gonna get better as he gets older. Pretty cool that he's playing the same guitar as Derek Trucks too. It's really great how all these Legendary guitar players are finding these kids and mentoring them. Like Buddy Guy with Quinn Sullivan. Seeing them at Clapton's Crossroads Festival is incredible.
It took me 20 years to be able to play like that and after 35 years I'm still not that good. Great job kid!! You just put my faith back in the younger generation. Rock on :D
Taj, One day, looking back, this moment of being on stage with a guy who rocked it at Woodstock will mean so much more than you could comprehend at this moment. I can assure you, you made these guys smile and that's the biggest compliment anyone could get. Super!
Prodigy... no doubt !!! Nice... baptism by fire... Taj, at the time, Carlos was schooling you without you even knowing it. He showed you that even though you can shred with the best of them, sometimes it's cool just to kick back and let others shine as well. You handled this session like a professional, Taj. You have soul, desire, and passion for your craft... these are the important things. You are definitely the real deal, and as a musician myself, I will be watching for you in the future. You're gonna do great things and have a great career in music, little Brother. PEACE 😎
I don’t think you can TEACH that….you just gotta feel it….after playing hours and hours. Somebody might have gotten him started with the basics but holy sheep shit…he’s jamming like a boss.
Don't get me wrong, everyone and anyone can appreciate this kids talent and skills, but only a real guitarist can appreciate and understand what this young man is truly capable of. WOW!!!
when you start playing when you still pick your nose , it's not a real achievement now , is it ? it's like all those chineese kids playing pieces that mozart would be ashamed to play , WHO ARE 4 YEARS old and younger , that play better then this little fellow ... yes he plays through the notes , but i ain't hearing ''what's behind them'' , THAT's what a REAL guitarist thinks of kids like this , if you have SOME kind of respect for yourself that is
@@ThermaL-ty7bw Huh? That sounded like a tirade of envy and ignorance. Not a very good one, either. Plays through the notes but not what is behind them....So silly. He is the notes he plays, anyone can see that.
He isnt capable of being an ordinary kid! I agree in part with Therma - this kid is practiced in a few scales that he plays over and over and over again. He has done it so often that he has gotten good at it, but that is not phenom territory!
Just think about kids like this, playing with legends, and all those legends going out of their way, to make sure these kids carry on the torch. These kids are going to listen to their idols and hopefully grow up to make their own music and maybe pass on what they learned from the legends to their followers. What greater experience than playing with legends. 😋😋😋😋
A 10yo keeping up with Santana is nothing but amazing. The kid is actually right there with him. He can't beat Santana BUT Santana can't beat him either
Yes Taj remember this lessin Carlos is teaching u it be humble show respect to the rest of the band and he also showing how to be humble cool an laid back....ur doing great u will get it but u could not learn from anyone better than Carlos humbleness along with great ness he taught u a lot in a few minutes good job
Carlos is reminding him even tho hes awesome and everyone is watching him the musicians all have their spotlight and appreciate eachothers time to shine
Not sure if this was rehearsed - if not that kid really knows how to take cues and give respect on the stage. Going to be something special. Let's keep an eye on him through the future!
As a retired tour manager I can tell you the most definitely went over it in sound check. But if you watch any of Taj’s other stuff, you will quickly realized he is not parroting anything He Has The touch The tone And the feel. He we will be around for awhile as he has a good grounding thanks to family
It is difficult to know what to say when anything that can be has. This is true from the gut ability. His tone, the runs, just nothing short of stunning. To be someone like Santana and get to watch this kid grow must be amazing. If I was his dad, I would not be able to stop talking about my son.
I’ve been a Santana fan for a long time...but Taj just showed up “The Master.” Tone is better. Showmanship is better. Instincts are better. All of which, are hard to believe, and ridiculous for a 10 year old
Can't say I agree. Clearly Taj is awesome and with the makings of a master, but Santana was running the stage like a pro, leading and reacting to every element including the crowd. Taj still has a lot of pent up energy and while he controls it spectacularly for a kid his age, it still gets him tied up for brief moments throughout his playing. If Taj keeps up what he doing, and he keeps getting that band experience, I expect he will soon Shine right along side Masters such as Santana.
I've had the privilege of seeing Carlos Santana in concert several times and you KNOW he's playing alongside somebody who is REALLY good when Carlos actually has to look at his own guitar while he's playing because he doesn't want to make any mistakes. That is a big compliment to Taj. Well done everyone. Rock on!
Carlos' greatness goes far beyond his incredible skill and feel for the music... it's displayed by his generosity and selflessness, his willingness to share the limelight with other amazing musicians, and in this case, promoting young Farrant who looks to be part of the next generation of incredible artists.
Personally, Taj reminds me of the late great Gary Moore in his playing style more than anyone else. He is a fantastic player with so much feel and passion, he's gonna be huge someday.
Early 90’s watched the best concert ever. Santana in a small old fair coliseum. 3 hours. Such class. The guy on the bongos played 3 straight hours never stopped. This kid fits right in. A new generation to follow!! (Edit for sp)
@@PoliticusRex632, hardly plays??? He matches Santana riff for riff, if that's hardly playing then he can continue with the hardly playing & wowing audiences all across America. Even Santana was wowed by Taj's hardly playing. 💜💜💜
Carlos is one of favs of all time. I grew up listening to Santana and to me it was only a dream ever to meet the legend and already in your short life, you have already jammed with him. Big props to you. How blessed you are to play with such a legend and master of universal music.
Rahul Pai, no worries. I had the pleasure seeing SRV live in the 80’s. I was standing five foot from him while he played the guitar behind his head. The house was a rockin keep on knocking. He was a blast!
I can't play any instrument and I'm not an expert in music but I must say that technically Taj is brilliant. But that is not all, even more I like his feelings and hapiness that he has when playing. That kind of enjoyment and love of music you can only see when some old blues guitarists are doing their best. This kid is Amazing, old soul in young body.
Just saw your AGT video and absolutely amazed. Love for the blues, 80's Rock, absolutely awesome. Keep us rocking into the free world. You have a fan for life, my dude.
Do you think Carlos will EVER stop talking about the night that he got to play with THE Taj Farrant?!? Great job, little dude! I don't believe in reincarnation and all that, but if I did, I'd swear that Jimi, SRV, Duane Allman, Lightnin' Hopkins, Andres Segovia and John Lee Hooker have found their ways back to us through you, Taj
@@Laura_G You're onto somethin' there Laura. Unfinished business, carrying on! I know we have lived before... Not opinion, direct experience in past life recall processing. Taj in this life is back.. Who he was? Somebody before with what he does at friggin 10 years, this maga talent ability, his meshing right in with the greats, who this person is now it is highly likely. In any case he is a stellar talent. I'm so damn inspired to play again!!!
I get what you guys are saying and I share the sentiment however... I completely disagree with all the reincarnation talk. Look none of the guys you mention were at this level when they were 10. No, Taj is an new human being and he is taking this 6 stringed thing on his own journey!
@@rudybigboote3883 I appreciate your stance on past lives. Those greats like Santana started out anew and through the love of the art, hard work development of skill they became - created themselves through a lifetime. Taj to just leap into it at his age of 8-10 like he does...? There's more to it than being new in my view. ☮️
There is something other worldly about this kid. That he can hold his own with Carlos Santana demonstrates something. His talent. But he's actually better then Carlos. His soul is laid bare as he plays. This is more then talent. Taj is a prodigy. More then that. He's mesmerizing. He could possibly become the best guitarist ever.
Yep, and he has to pull it with more than one finger because he's so young and not strong enough. And his timing is of an old soul. I just don't get it hhow. The kid truly is a natural.
@@fixitrod4969 I play and am self-taught, and I think vibrato technique is something that has to be felt, more than taught. If you love the blues you will feel it and find your technique. It's far more expressive than a whammy bar, IMHO. The kid is just insane, complete with "guitar face", as Fil, on Wings of Pegasus says.
@@victimeyes51 the Guitar Face is strong with this one. The only other reason to give face is when you're scared you're going to pop that high E string and put yer eye out lol.
I got my first guitar when I was 19. Now I am 60 and I still couldn't touch Taj with a 10 foot pole. When people ask me about my guitar playing I would tell them I'm okay but I'm no Jimmy Hendrix. Now I tell them I'm okay but I'm no Taj Farrant.
You likely saw the short bit two weeks ago here, on Taj's channel. That blew my mind. Just hoping his is a much larger bit of the show. I can't get enough of this artist!
Music is where all politicians and regulations rules come to extinction. Music doesn't care about age, gender, race and religion. Amazing kid. He is every father's dream son. Respect to Santana and the band.
The Taj is good and unrefined, the master just taught him how to control the stage and respect his musicians playing with him. I can't wait to hear more from him as he matures. Now where is jack White for the kids next lesson?
Taj Farrant is an amazing blues /rock player for any age let alone being only ten years old. Carlos Santana is a legendary Blues/rock God who established his own beautiful latin blues style and his band is full of great musicians as well. I saw the Great Carlos Santana back in 1992 in Golden gate park where he played for FREE and he was great in the open air! I heard in other posts people characterising this video as a guitar contest but I only see two great guitarists who have a mutual love of blues celebrating electric blues music together. One is a guitar King and one is a little guitar prince. Both are stellar talents but Carlos generously and kindly let the prince shine and the prince moved up to the plate with shining colors!
Notice how he constantly looks for Carlos and the rest of the band. He has the musical sensibility of someone playing for years and years. Upcoming talent no doubt! Taj my man ROCK ON!!
Both Taj and Carlos got so much credits, lets not forget Bennie Rietveld (bass)and Salvador Santana( keys) who laid down some great work here and drums Cindy Santana, always great drumming.
Nice one Jazzguts I agree with you - its that total signature sound and the engine room support that the band supplies. Not many guitarists have truly made it in the long run without a great band to support them (just imo of course). Can't wait to see where Taj goes over time in terms of having his own band - will he be the singer as well as lead guitarist like Clapton and Bonamassa? It’ll be interesting to see what comes along for this already great talent. Has Cindy Santana played in other bands as well does anyone know?
@Keith Long That's your opinion and your entitled to it. Not everyone likes the same thing, it's an individual choice, thank god for that or we'd all like the same boring thing. But why you didn't post it directly as your piece on the main comment section, is beyond me. Not many people will see it here, or is that your reasoning for placing it as a reply to me? 🤔
Taj showing out for real. Oh WOW!!! I love you Taj. I can watch you all day and night. Please let me know when you are coming to the East Coast I’m wanting to see you in person so bad. I have all my friends checking you out and everyone loves you. You are the Amazing
