'Feel like WE'RE fortunate that Taj is determined, even if he decides to eventually change directions. ... but seems it's in his blood. You know, climbing the icy fire escape in Winter to lug the gear in, etc, etc. (( you're a platinum staple in the teaching community, Fil!'
May I suggest that at the start of UTS you either give a quick explanation of what UTS is and how it differs from your regular analysis videos or put this info in the description box and let folks know it's there. I get the feeling from some of the viewer comments they're not aware of the difference.
Well there is mastering techniques and then there is the creation of personal style, there is a difference. It will be exciting to see how this young man’s personal style evolves.
I really like the right hand technique of tucking the pick and switching to using thumb and 2nd finger, and then alternating back and forth as desired...I think Chris Buck uses that same technique...I've tried doing it but the pick very quickly winds up on the floor... Excellent vid Fil, it's great to celebrate such a talented and dedicated young artist, best of luck to him...And Fil may I just respectfully add that you're a fantastic teacher and your musical skills are nothing to sneeze at either!
An absolutely stellar performance by Taj! His fretboard wizardry is outstanding! Coupled with amazing control and feel...incredible! Thanks you Fil for this and your brilliant demo as always! Cheers Mario! 😀👌🤘
Kid has a gift, Outstanding performance at that young an age. I hope he has someone to protect him from the people who'll burn him out or take advantage, so he can keep that drive. Thanks for the vedio Fil!
You could just tell that this was going to be a high-caliber performance with that first looong, slooowww bend at the beginning. Thank you for pointing out the subtleties in the performance, Fil - it made watching this again so much more interesting. Wow, what a talent!
Great analysis fil! Taj is incredible for sure and I'm very excited to see where he takes us. To be able to break it down like that says alot about your abilities as a guitarist yourself my friend! Very cool
Another great "Under the Spotlight" analysis and only fitting that you chose this young man's skills to highlight as I first heard him thanks to your introduction of him a while back...It has been great to watch Taj grow..and just amazing how you were able to listen to his lines and play them slowly so we can learn them....your musical.memory is unbelievable...I would have to replay each note over and over and I still would be off and overwhelmed...and I have been at it for a very long time...keep rocking it Fil!!!
I always thought Taj was fantastic, but when you dissect it, it just shows how much more is involved in his playing than I had noticed. He just makes it so effortless. That is the sign of a true great.
You and Taj kept us from sinking in the deep end of the pool here! It's been so moving to see how each artist has responded differently to this lovely backing track; thanks for helping us to understand just what Taj was getting up to!
Hi Fil! I discovered this child a few months ago, and I was blown away by his guitar playing! This is what I call God given talent! Can you imagine him in a few years? He will just continue to grow musically. I understand he has a very supportive family which will help him avoid the pitfalls that can happen to those who discover stardom at a young age! ✌️
I watched his stylings, then listened. superb. As he matures..wow the sky's the limit. Fil, I enjoy these UTS, because it is relaxed and great instruction for those of us just learning guitar.
This is a really talented kid ! Woah I’ve seen him before on your channel,he’s incredible, and you can tell he’s really into it ! 12 yrs old ? That’s incredible ! ❤️ 🤘
How cool to get to be so free on your instrument! And just amazing to get there so young! Fil, your analysis brought out the riches in Taj's playing. You're an invaluable encouragement to him and to all of us. Thanks! ❤️
This young man has a brilliant future. I'm still stuck on one of your many Glen Campbell videos and am still in awe , but i'm an old guy (68) lol. Take all.the electronics away and the purity blows me away. I know it's not fair , many great years young man , don't believe all the accolades and you'll be a star. Peace
Wow he sounds so good and I heard so much feeling in his playing! I wish him all the luck in the world.👏 I appreciate you Fil. I would never understand any of this if it wasn't for you and I'm enjoying it at the same time.👏
“It’s really a feature of this solo” !!! I can’t agree more .. but with a lot of solo’s. There are certain solos that with just one bend or note , I can fall in love with a particular solo. Great analysis as always 👌
Taj is awesome! Kids need to try all types of instruments. It was how one of my daughters declared as music major, then ended up a vocalist, then a music teacher.
The first time I ever saw him was when u looked at him playing Tennessee Whiskey. So thanks . I’m sure y’all will play something together, in person, soon. That would be epic
Taj has natural, god-given talent. You can see by his facial expressions while he plays that he feels every note, with every ounce of his being. So cool! Keep the music going Taj..... cheers to you!🎸🎸Super Fil👍
Taj at his age understands what he is doing. Which separates him from a lot of kids his age. With his hands being so small still, he is able to make the board work for him by using an extra finger when bending. His ability to switch between pick and fingers, allows him to use melody, harmony, rhythm in unison. Which is the three most important elements to being a Great guitar player. Taj is only going to get better with age, as long as he doesn't lose the Passion and stays grounded !!
I know,it’s weird how some people are born old souls . I’m one of them . This kid is incredible! He’s enjoying it. If your getting lost in it ,your doing just fine . 👌
@@DDFreeman' but if all souls were created at once, how is the grown population to be understood? 😗 Yes though, 'Advanced soul" and possibly prophets, both in and not in the scriptures, 'Ascended spirirts'... like Krishna and Buddah. ((What do ya think, plz? '

When I first saw Taj, like everyone it was his raw talent hit me. The more I see of him, the more I recognise he also has that ineffable thing that is able to move my soul. Plenty of guitar wizards out there with kind of empty music, not Taj. He is touched by the spirit, a gift to the world.
I don't play guitar (anymore) but I love Fils' expert analysis and supreme skill and insight. He really knows what he's talking about and shares it beautifully. He's so darn likable, lol. He has a professionalism, love for art, and connection to and for people that we rarely see anymore. Fil makes everything interesting but Taj is a great example for Fil to dissect, at it were. I'm amazed how he can see or hear something once and almost repeat it exactly. What skill. But it's cool to watch his process of working it out; and he explains EVERYTHING. What a teacher. I am often late to do something because I always get captivated by Fils' videos and have to watch them all the way through... sometimes twice. I really, really wish I'd kept playing guitar to try to apply what he shares, but I know my limitations, and it's come so far the past 30 years or so, I doubt I could ever catch up. Both these guys sure inspire though.
Ok, i relistened to the 3 performances. I feel James' was a smoother/jazzier version of Buck's performance. But Taj made the track his very own. Well done.😊
Excellent solo by Taj. His control of bends and achieving pitch is tremendous. Great analysis on your part. We talked recently about string gauge ... maybe it's time to put 7s on your strat!
Off topic question....watching you sing cover songs, you have no accent. Listening to you speak you have a British accent. Is that by design or just natural?
I’ve been following Taj for 4 years. He posts a few times a week. Hard to keep up with him. His sister is talented as well and peeks into this musical family shows a moving and supportive environment. He’s extraordinarily talented and such a happy bloke!! Yes he’s begun to sing. That’s never going to be extraordinary, but that’s okay. It’s enough that he has a decent voice which will probably improve over time.
Taj is basically, Gary Moore, Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, etc etc VIRTUOUSO IS why the word was invented.. He is a Virtuoso! And not Born but HARD Worked.. he's without doubt the GREATEST up n coming!
.. Awesome kid / player.....Fil I'm thinking a great idea would be to analyze street performers ...these guys , girls , kids are crazy good !...thx Fil and cheers 👍
I just had to check out another interview with Taj to believe my eyes and ears. Saw him performing with Santana and Seal. Just Amazing. I totally missed this on Australia's got talent, so I'm glad that you shared his awesomoness on your channel. You wouldn't want to miss this level of talent if he comes to perfrom locally, that's for sure.
Fil's Under The Spotlight shows are different from his analysis videos. He has sent the same back track to various musicians. The artists submit a vid of themselves playing along with the track. Fil then shows us the technical aspects of the person's playing. Fil has analyzed Taj's Tennessee Whiskey vid.
Love Taj playing David Gilmour!!! I like to call him “ young grasshopper” 😆 !! Everyone who knows what that means give me a thumbs up lol. You’ll be giving away your age 💜
Taj is an incredible musician! His vibrato is better than so many adults I've seen. I've been following him for a few years now and he amazes me every time I watch him perform. I love seeing kids involved with music. I'm not sure if you've seen Abim Finger play, but check him out when you have some time because he's amazing as well. Thank you for your reactions.
I enjoy your videos so much. I don’t play any instrument, but can appreciate really good musicians, very obvious you are very good. Thanks for the great teaching.
I wish I could play as good as good as Taj can. I've been playing since I was 13 years old. I started playing old school rock and country. Michael Owens
Hey Fil.... you're my go-to, but I'm not sure if you've ever critiqued Tommy Bolin. I'll leave it to you to find the material. He was greatness to me and so many others. Love your work.
You wonder if he's been reincarnate of a famous guitarists before because he does play like as if he knew how already, not to think of the hours that he's played to get this good he's what l call a perfect example of a "natutal" he's incredible, very entertaining to watch
That tasty lick Taj played would not have been easy to learn from just one listen and in 20 seconds or so by any guitarist but it was similar in structure to the stairway to heaven lead but you seem to have gotten the gist of it, I would have to replay it 20 times or so and 2 days of practicing it.
Thanks, this has become a great showcase for people, and you certainly have set the bar high. I'd love to see with Derrick Trucks, since that would be a combination that could go places. I mention him since I saw a video of his when he was also 12 or 13.
