When I saw the scale of this hot garbage next to ZETA, Moon Studio whatever I knew it was not going to stack up. They would be great in train next the REAL king of the rails. It's sad really though.@@zoretorjenkins
3P has been handing Takara its @$$ for years now. Par for the course. Moon vs this is just the most obscene example. I can honestly say there isn't one Takara figure since Sunstreaker that I personally prefer to its "best" 3P counterpart.
Short legs are one problem, but poor guy is basically missing all of his torso below the ribcage. Either way, if I belonged to Takara's design department and saw the Moon Studios version of Raiden, I'd die from embarrassment. To think that TF fans used to basically pray to the Takara half of HasTak while being dismissive towards the Hasbro half! And nowadays it's Hasbro that's being surprisingly TF fan-friendly - well, as much as a mega-corpo can be friendly, of course - while Takara arrogantly assumes that everything they release will sell, so there's no point in upping their game. And yeah, I get that Raiden was made predominantly for the Raiden-loving Japanese part of the fanbase, but no amount of fannish love can fix... this.
They've been shipping trash for years, and the fans keep gobbling it up. They know exactly what they're doing. People who buy their toys are getting exactly what they paid for at this point.
Takara and Tomy made more and faster money from simple toys...and still can not compete with other toy maker. I think this is the best they can do. And, as most Japanese companies, they only care about Japanese market, the WHOLE WORLD is just good to have, "oh-well" if missed.
excellent review. Ive been collecting all of the mp line from hastak. at least one copy of each mold. This is the first time i passed on their offerings. I got 2 trains in and said…. nope. no more of this. Their retail stunticons are better than this set.
My thoughts exactly. Has Power Rangers written all over it. I feel they made this for their Japanese audience. Not that’s any excuse for how bad it is.

This set was designed for train mode, everything else was sacrificed for the altmode accuracy, they even made it so the train fit the popular H0 train model scale. This wasn't made for transformers fans, its audience is train fans. Don't know how well that worked for Takara.
As a model train enthusiast who bought this set I can tell you that it's disappointing even if you wanted it for the trains. The locomotives themselves look great but only 2 of the 6 bots fit on ho track the other 4 have some weird smaller gauge custom track in between HO and N scale. The can't even roll on the tracks they come with because the wheels fall out of gauge due to them transforming. Overall it's not a good set. I'm disappointed I spent the money investing in these figures. Whish I had of bought the moon studio or even the original g1 release instead.
That left is extremely off putting. IF they are doing LioKaiser, I hope they do collab with some military force or it will be the hottest of all hot messes. I will keeping the praises of the Moon Studio piece.
The way it's just slumped there in the review was giving me flashbacks to you cw menasor review. Then I realized this thing is like 5-6 times the price. WTF takara?

Right? You can get Legacy Menasor a lot cheaper than this, and it looks better even without the DNA Design upgrade kit. Add 30 bucks to your budget for the upgrade kit and you're still only paying a fraction of the cost of this mess and you've got a combiner in roughly the same scale, that's a lot cleaner looking in all modes apart from the basic vehicle mode, has better articulation, can actually stand up without looking like it's hunched over like an old man. I don't collect mainline but I know which set I'd rather buy.

Even when several people were popping up with breakages, when people proved these aren't really any more "accurate" than the Moon Studios releases, and the fact that it's called Masterpiece but is tiny and overpriced. Actually, it was chug line pretending MP to catch Japan's train robots hype all along...so they need to be fast and sell 50%+higher price by naming it MP that Japanese willing to pay. Bottomline, it was not for any fans, it's just for money grab.
This figure fails at being both a Masterpiece combiner and a chug combiner in terms of both scale and quality, quite the accomplishment if you ask me. Can’t wait to see them do Devastator or LioKaiser next.
And there are still Takara fanboys that claim that it's better then the Moon Studio Raiden because it's more toon accurate 😵💫😵💫😵💫. It's a piece of junk that in no way whatsoever deserves the title Masterpiece on it's box.

How it attaches to itself weird. No real solid connection points. I can already DNA thinking of ways to make this better. DNA don't waste your time putting lipstick on this dead pig.
You had a lot of the same trouble I had in my review, I tried to put the sword in his hand and the whole thing fell apart. My left leg ankle is so weak it wont stand. I wanted to like this thing. I really think they had a lot of issues with the train companies these are licensed from. Especially with the experience that Kōjin Ōno has designing Transformers. This thing is a total disaster.
Oh wow. This should have been a CHUG and it would probably have had much better quality. Just look at the Legacy Menasor, it destroys this "Masterpiece".
The term you’re looking for to describe how it holds together is “Sloppy Garbage”. This was frustrating to even watch. They’re not Takara products, but this how my Make Toys Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet were. So if you want a statement regarding the current state of Takara’s quality, it’s that their product are on the level of a mid-tier third party company.
I look at this hot mess and then I look at the work of art that is Legacy Menasor and the two are decades apart in design concept. While Legacy Menasor is not prefect, a few party add-on fixed him without a problem. But, this... I am hoping this is rock bottom for the master piece line, with the team doing master piece taking a good hard look and going in a different direction. Good video. Thanks for saving me and other TF fans a few hundred dollars in finding out.

Wow, what a mess. And THIS is the first attempt at true Takara masterpiece combiner. At least there’s a better option for a masterpiece scale Raiden combiner out there .
I am tremendously glad I stopped buying these after 3 trains. I am embarrassed that I didn't stop after one. I regret that I bought one. When one of them broke, that ended it all for me. The combined mode looks amateurish at best. What a waste of money, time, and plastic.
Honestly, when it's this bad, Takara should offer a program for a full refund and take them all back if somebody wants to return them. Why even have a masterpiece line if the engineering is equal to Combiner Wars Menasor?

I knew this thing was gonna be a disaster since the first bot got revealed. This is why fanstoys feels justified charging over 1000$ for their superion.
The Moon Studio Raiden was $300 cheaper ( got mine preordered before the price hike), almost twice the size ( Raiden stands at 29cm while Radiatron stands at 50cm), and almost too sturdy. (them joints, Mac) If they both cost that same and I would have to choose it would be no contest
I feel so bad for anyone who bought into this for the combined mode. This thing has a whole bot that’s supposed to be the lower torso, waist, and thighs…and they take the majority of that bot and hang him off the combiner’s butt. It looks unstable at best, and the way the connection points don’t connect is concerning. Idk whether to laugh (at people who bought in) or cry for them.
“Masterpiece”. Man, this thing breaks my heart just like it did my wallet. Folks invested a LOT of money into this pile and Takara couldn’t design it to combine and stay together better than this. Sneeze and he collapses :(

That’s a mess, a complete train wreck like you said, that toy complete is not cheap either, you pay about £150 -£200 a bot, I’m from the uk that’s why I’m using pounds, still that’s 6 bots in total so over a £1000 and have the main function of the team *to combine be an absolute mess, you are right takara need to have a long hard look at themselves for the future, things like this are atrocious and it should never be released in that state if you cannot display it in one of its primary functions as a display piece.
3P companies have been making combiners for years now, MMC, Zeta, etc. is anyone surprised that takara’s first attempt is not good. Even detached from 3P combiners this thing is ridiculously bad and redundant. Also people say they should do devastator and, sure they could would we like it no most likely, There’s too many 3P Devastators to choose from. For me MMC is working on there’s and I’m excited for that, not hyped because hype make you stupid.
Nope and the timing was wretches also by announcing when Moon Studio showed off their Raiden, which is cheaper, taller, isn't held together with hopes, prayers, sweat, anger, and shame.
Bobby made a great comparison with TFC Hercules though, the first 3P combiner back in the day (1st attempt vs 1st attempt). It has it's issues, but nothing like Raiden here.

This thing is so bad, it's like a hyper-expensive Combiner Wars figure - it's a disgrace. The Moon set absolutely schooled this thing. It's an embarrassment how inferior it is. Fraction of the size, fraction of the aesthetics, 5x the price. Is these were both third party, Takara would be out of business after this joke. Their complete lack of combiner experience at MP level shows badly.
I wish I could go back and not comment this set. And Takara are doing a REPAINT?!?!? 😂😂😂😂😂 I’m stuck with it, though, because I’ll just lose money if I try to sell it!
I'm glad I stopped collecting Takara Tomy Masterpiece figures, because my feeling was that things are getting worse and worse with these Takara figures.

Quality and functionality aside, I don't think this thing looks cool. It's very frumpy, like a sculpture made out of junk. It's interesting to look at, but when I think about how it works, I just think the designer has no idea how to design a combiner.
This figure is an unmitigated disaster. This is my biggest purchase regret by far in the entire masterpiece/3rd party G1 lines. Unreal how terrible this is from Takara no less.
Some of the initial individual trainbot figures of this set when it first started getting reviews looked decent. Theyre going for a particular aesthetic and its not really my aesthetic but it looked like they achieved what they wanted to achieve. This though, god damn this looks terrible by any standard.
I was curious on how this would turn out. I have no attachment to the trainbots, but I thought it would be at least cool to invest in owning Takara's first MP combiner... I will not be investing, lmao.
The last pose you had it in with the two swords actually looked really good. I don’t have all the bots yet, but I’m disappointed I got this now lol. Still, as individual bots and trains I like them… so there are options… really wanted the combiner mode to be the strength though.
Honestly this is sad, it is unfortunate but i do believe that there is a way to better lock in the arms in a specific way but Honestly this guy sucks which is sad since i do feel like the look of the trains and their robot modes were amazing better then moon studio in my opinion but i do feel he would've worked better as a chug figure or if they wanted i feel like they just needed to fix the tightness of joints maybe some engineering but most of of all have kaen acutally be the waist instead of having him become raiden's big fat dump truck. At the end of the day i do feel like it was mostly having to keep the HO scale and accurate trains but for a little more then $1000 I expect way better.
