For a 15M$ Budget, this literally is a peak movie.

0:27 The movie was relatable to many because of the human aspect of the story, we can relate to/sympathize with the tragedy, and also inspired by the heroic actions/sacrifices. All that and showcasing Godzilla. So much better than the recent Wester movies, that's why Godzilla: Minus One was such a hit!

Took decades for the Big G to get a star on the walk of fame & now he's gotten an Oscar Nomination, win or lose the recognition is well deserved.

Godzilla minus one is amazing. I hope if there is a sequel they will keep the movie serious and a little grounded. This is one of the greatest era of godzilla ever, because we have minus one, monarch, godzilla x kong the new empire, and sequels in the future. Great time to be a godzilla fan.

Im still just dumbstruck of how he managed to make make such a awesome and thought provoking movie with such a small budget, compared to most of the marvel movies (even tho i haven't watched all of them)

He wrote, directed and supervised the VFX. So when he says he wants to get mad at the director and the writers, he's talking about himself.

I think it would be fascinating to see him translate something like Biollante or Hedorah into a sequel. Considering the radiation fallout and how Godzilla might have affected the environment. A freakish byproduct with maybe a folklore significance. That would be cool.

This man needs to be recognized for creating the greatest Godzilla movie ever.

Godzilla-1.0 was produced with only 35 VFX artists and on a budget of less than $15 million, but the resulting images are as high as Hollywood's. This is a technique that can only be achieved by director Takashi Yamazaki. It deserves the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director. What's more, Spielberg gave me the best cheer. The 96th Academy Awards for Visual Effects is no exaggeration to say that this is within director Takashi Yamazaki's reach.

Japan-based Godzilla getting time in the spotlight (especially in the West) is great! Hope they can keep this momentum!

I loved this movie. I think it’s the best Godzilla movie after Gojira. With that said I hope there is not a direct sequel. I feel like the story was self contained in a single narrative. So even though it ends with the possibility of Godzilla returning, keep it as a one off and just do another Godzilla movie in an entirely new universe.

I kind of feel it would be better if we didn't get a sequel. I think the movie went very well, told its story and ended.

I saw Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Holdovers, and Godzilla: Minus One. Minus one came away as Best Picture for me. I said it the moment I left the Chinese Theatre. Unfortunately, it was overlooked for that category.

not just the US was interested in that story, europe too was, it's the history of the world at this point which is why people loved it

what makes this more celebratory is the fact, they didn't have to localize in a form of remake and having Hollywood actors, like other Japanese movies in the past, the Ring and Grudge

I didn’t know he saw Oppenheimer. Damn, no wonder both films are so similar in theming. Imagine Godzilla Minus Two with the man himself saying “Now I am become death, destroyer of worlds.” That quote fits perfectly for Godzilla, but we’ve never seen it officially

I’m excited, and more nervous to see more Godzilla from Japan. absolutely nailed both Shin & Minus 1 imo, There was a ton of older Godzilla movie references right ? I mean I felt like the tons of the movie was a ode to older movies. I hope to see another 30+ Godzilla films from Japanese creators, hopefully maybe being able to make stories across the world too. But I always felt American Godzilla was done poorly, or just not in the actual spirit of Godzilla that Toho created and I grew up with. Nowadays I think that Godzilla is Japans like natural resource, and depending on how well future projects turn out it could be something that pulls in money from everywhere, and helps continue Godzilla’s truest mission…. to bring peace and love. The only movie I don’t own is Biollante but I’ll get it someday. Maybe soon even, it just costs a lot right now. Thanks for making something that is core to my identity. I believe in Godzilla.

Including the cast of Oppenheimer in some scenes of the potential sequal is a great idea. Amazing world building, but would Nolan be ok with it?

Hollywood should pay attention - you don't need 1000s of people on a movie and hundreds of millions of dollars to make something good. You need talent.

Yamazaki is a recognized national treasure in Japan and rightfully so. Godzilla Minus One is one of the very few films I have gone to an actual theater to see. The fact that he and TOHO may actually bring us a sequel to this film is just icing on the cake. And to all the "Western" critics in the film industry who have been dunking on this film... You're just jealous and embarrassed that Takashi and his crew created this film for less than 15 million dollars. An amount that cannot be explained away as merely lower costs in Japan (though that was certainly a factor.) Takashi Yamazaki knows how to get a production done efficiently. And TOHO Studios is an old hand at this. The film has grossed well over a 100 million worldwide (and the amount is still climbing) making it incredibly profitable when compared to the multi-hundred million boondoggles that Hollywood has been releasing over the last few years. Yes, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny grossed about 375 million worldwide, but it cost nearly 300 million to make. And that's just the reported budget. With all the re-shoots and re-edits, it may have been closer to 325 million. Factor in nearly 100 million for marketing and you have a film that lost a horrible amount of money. So, yeah. Hollywood is jealous that Japan can simply do a better job of producing a film that is within a reasonable budget without having to give up any on quality.

Godzilla Minus Two (One = Godzilla from Minus One) (Two = Two Monsters)

That perspective he gains from doing each of the roles and getting mad at how his other "selves" do things in other roles is so important. So many people get locked into one role and don't understand how to communicate to the other teams they work with, or even see the problems that other roles know are obvious.

This is a man who is all in on Godzilla and the right kinda guy to really take in the effort for a truly rewarding movie experience that he made.

There's no need to make the sequel an international cast, all the big movies in hollywood already do that. It's actually refreshing to see an all Japanese cast and they should continue to build on their own.

What made G Minus One really good is the 'human stories' told and not just a big monster stomping on things. Watching how it was created and made, makes Hollywood look foolish with their bloated staffs, budgets, and CGI that only gives one headaches trying to watch it. A sequel is very possible because of the ending....he was regenerating. But to give the story a better feel, that immediate regeneration power needs to go away.

If she were to transform into a Godzilla-like hybrid, one would expect her appearance to have changed; however, she still looks like herself. This suggests that the G-cells possess regenerative capabilities.
