I love how the whole fandom is divided and are fighting about whether a serious Godzilla movie is better than a funny one and these two dudes are like "I love your Godzilla." "Me too."
well i for one don't believe you gotta pick ONE way for Godzilla, to me it's about.. does it make sense to showa era the 2014 Godzilla ? does it feel natural as progression? or should they maybe have changed Godzilla's design completely to something more muppety and goofy like the showa era did? ya know.. to avoid confusion cause now... it feels like you're just turning it all into a messy soup
@@ludocrious7898I do kinda wish the Monsterverse stayed mysterious and grounded like 2014 but you can’t deny how much more fun the action is in Adam’s movie
@@YodaOnABender let alone the screen time we’re getting.. my biggest gripe with 2014 was the little amount of screen time he got. But to have different perspectives is what the original eras had, you had 3 different eras of goji and I’m just hoping we get the same.
"We can take totally opposite directions and, together,we are maintaining the wide spectrum of this Godzilla IP, even now". Godzilla fans should take these two as inspiration, instead of fighting each other trying to prove one's favorite Godzilla's tone is the best and the franchise should ONLY go in that direction,Godzilla is now almost 70 because he can be both and much more
What the Godzilla Community can be. This warms my heart by a million, seeing these two get together & express their experiences, love, feelings towards the entire Godzilla Franchise is truly something the entire Godzilla Community can learn from! We all love the same thing at the end of the day. Godzilla Fans, UNITE! Thank you Takashi & Adam! You guys are real ones!🤍
We now live in a world where G-fans can have their cake and eat it too. There's something for everyone, thanks to the works of Yamazaki and Wingard alike. It's fantastic.
It’s amazing to see G-fans united and not arguing about legendary Kaiju being weaker the Heisei ones or legendary fans and toho fans seperating themselves
@@darknemessis6880 or maybe you could try to learn some Japanese and stop being a stuck up American asshole. (I’m American myself, so I feel this way about myself sometimes.)
Adam Wingard: Presents Godzilla as a force for good to maintain the natural order and balance to the world. Takashi Yamazaki: Presents Godzilla as a painful reminder of our destructive tendencies, wrongdoings and our trauma. Both delivers Godzilla in different spectrums that we can all enjoy and be at awe.
Man it feels like a dream to see these 2 different directors together for us Godzilla fans: Adam Wingard: the fun, silly and enjoyable spectrum of Godzilla Takashi Yamazaki: the horrific, serious, and devastating side of godzilla
It's amazing to see how serious the Monsterverse began with Edwards 2014 Godzilla and to see it evolve (or devolve in some fans eyes) to Gvk and GxK. I'm 53 so I grew up watching the Showa Era and the Godzilla/Godzuki cartoon in the late Seventies. It wasn't until the mid 80's (my teen years) that I first saw the 1954 Gojira so I've seen it all. I love the serious stuff but also the campy, silly over the top films. Loved G-1 and saw it in 4DX. That shit was wild. I can't wait to own it in 4k and I can't wait to see GxK in IMAX and definitely can't wait to own it in 4k.
@@antoniochasten3192 Well said! We're both around the same age and like you I appreciate the Showa and Heisei eras and I see both in the Monsterverse. But I also love the original 1954 film, SHIN GODZILLA and GODZILLA MINUS ONE. It's the Big G's versatility that's the reason why he's lasted for 70 years.
Always felt he was a good representation of atomic power. It can be used for good and be beneficial, but once in a while we get reminded it isn't always our friend
Absolutely iconic. Never in my life did I think I would see two directors talking about a shared character like Godzilla. We live in a world where we have the two best sides of Godzilla. Let that sink in. Before, we NEVER had this kind of privilege. Now Godzilla (and Kong) are more popular than ever, and we the fans are the recipients of this great privilege. What a time to be a fan. Long Live the Kings.
See, all this bickering in the fandom and we have two gentlemen fighting to keep the spirit of Godzilla alive while the fandom the fandom tries to shove him in a box. YES we can and we should have both Godzillas!! STOP TRYING TO SHOVE GOJI IN A BOX!!
110% right there 🗿🍹Fandom is literally braindead, for the most part, and are super toxic and so quick to get pissed as if you stabbed their puppy or somethin 💀
Seeing these lifelong Goji fans becoming Goji creators and inspiring new generations of fans while delighting everyone with their creations is bringing me so much joy.
I like how the community rages for over a simple opinion while the directors in the other hand, just talk randomly and chill with eachother like a father-son bonding relationship.
Godzilla is the key to coexistence between campy and fun & serious and foreboding, for he can be both and neither at the same time and still be considered Godzilla.
I had the same childhood as Adam Wingard. I loved dinosaurs and grew up on the Showa Godzilla films being aired on tv. I've been a fan of Godzilla longer than any of my other interests. I love what both directors are doing with Godzilla. What a great time to be a fan.
This is the most wholesome interview I have ever seen. You can see how both of them are excited talking about each other projects and how shy and flattered they get over it. It’s so precious 😭
I can agree it’s so wholesome to see a Showa era Godzilla fan and a serious Godzilla fan met together and talk about there love for Godzilla so cute 😊 but if they played Jacob and the stone which is without doubt the most wholesome song in existence it would be way more emotional and wholesome but it’s perfect regardless
The Directors: chilling, sharing their Godzilla Design, telling their favorite Godzilla movie, being awesome. The community: at each other throat, try to atomic blast each other ass for having different opinion 😂😂😂
It’s such a great time to be a Godzilla fan! I especially love how the filmmakers of both the Monsterverse and Toho films have such a respect for both incarnations of Godzilla. No fan gatekeeping nonsense.
@@nicolestimothy9921 And thats the best part. I like how they're both in the mix of making these movies and just not lending the license to someone who doesn't care.
@@Eva01-jy2qu7pu9r Legendary knew they had to find directors who had passion and loved for Godzilla to the box office and gladly they find the right people to do so. I really hope their cooperation continues where Legendary making their Monsterverse movies or TV shows and Toho bringing more ideas for Godzilla in Japan. This is the best comeback since 2014 where Legendary bring back Godzilla for the first time.
What a frickin privilege it is to have so much Godzilla. I remember Godzilla being a niche thing even among nerds and geeks. I’d scour video stores and movie channels just to somehow watch a movie. Now it’s this growing franchise and I wish I could tell my younger self.
I feel like we, the Godzilla community should really take lessons from this. For the last weeks, lots of us have been arguing over how a Godzilla movie should be done when in reality Godzilla's appeal has always been his versatile. These two are very much coming out in public and saying we CAN have both Dark grounded Godzilla AND Fun action Godzilla movies. We should all learn from these two incredible artists that have so much love for the franchise and have respect for one another. We all have our differences and preferences but in the end of the day, we're all G fans. There's a version of Godzilla for everyone.😊 That's what makes it a wonderful franchise.
While I'm a King Kong fan that also likes Godzilla, I have to say I absolutely agree. The key word is "preferences". People change overtime and develop interest in different things or even gaining retrospectives. So while it's completely okay to choose the Godzilla tone that's more appealing to you as of now, it doesn't have to be the only way to approach the character. That's while I personally am not really eager to see GxK, and had a phenomenal experience watching minus one, I hope those who like the campy and more showa style Godzilla will enjoy the film.
I remember that stretch between 2004 and 2014 where no one was making Godzilla movies. It felt like forever but now we have new movies, tv shows, anime, etc. The fact we got 2 movies and a TV show in the span of 6 months is incredible and I honestly don't know if it will ever happen again.
Its really awesome to see two different Godzilla directors with two different kinds of movie's, talking about their takes and Godzilla and what the franchise means for them
This interview is incredible, and knowing that these two have such an awesome looking friendship between their love for the Godzilla series is just incredible
I love seeing this two talk and being friends , also I think there Conversation expresses why Godzilla has been around for so long, he didn’t just stick to being one thing Godzilla went to explore many avenues and ways of telling story’s he can be in a serious movie that a message about nuclear power, but he can also be in a story where he teams up with a giant monkey and fights other monsters and the message can simply be stand together, or maybe it can be just a fun time with lots of cool fights, whether you like it or not it’s up to you, but That’s why Godzilla has so many fans because of everything he can stand for
I would love to see an interview or podcast with Yamazaki and all the Monsterverse directors because they all share passion for the characters. I believe the most interesting aspect to the Monsterverse is how each film is aesthetically/stylistically different yet retain the spirit of the characters consistently.
Two nations meet at one table. The Oscars victory just boost his popularity to the top. An amazing time for G Fans and I myself loved this very much. Hats off to both Legendary and Toho making Godzilla return. ❤
I just think it’s really funny how people crap on legendary for making godzilla a “superhero” when Toho literally made him a superhero decades ago first 😂
I mean really!!! What a great time to be a Godzilla fan!!! Freaking awesome movies, a Oscar win, and 2 directors who love the King of the Monsters as much as we do!!!
This nearly brought a tear to my eye. Just seeing the love and the reverence that both these guys have for the King makes me so elated to be a G-fan in this day and age.
I just love watching directors interview each other and talk about perspectives, especially geniuses like James Cameron and Steven Spiesberg. It's really inspiring! And please, can someone in charge of the Imax RU-vid channel learn the art of uploading vids in 4k? Considering imax is all about immersive experiences, experience begins with top quality marketing.
Honestly I would totally see Gojira(1954), Godzilla vs Destroyah, Godzilla Minus One, and Godzilla vs. Kong in IMAX. I think Wingards take on wanting to see Godzilla vs Hedorah in IMAX very interesting because you never hear that. It’s different and cool.
This puts a smile on my face. Two film directors who are big Godzilla fans talking face to face with each other. I love it how they talk about their Godzillas and respect each others visions and takes on the character.
What’s so cool about this is that when watching both of their hands you can see how excited they are to just sit down and talk about Godzilla and the joy that their passion brings
Amazing these directors work in different styles but they try to showcase one CHARACTER GODZILLA which is really amazing ❤❤❤❤❤Love to see them rule cine industry
This is why it's an amazing time to be a Godzilla fan. We got to watch a masterpiece of filmmaking. The Godzilla movie we always hoped to see. That being Godzilla Minus One. The serious horror of Godzilla We get GxK representing the Showa series where MANY of us started our fandom. A all out kaiju brawl. Destroying cities and rejoicing when Godzilla popped up to challenge the big bad of kaiju. We have Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which taps into both worlds of Godzilla. Unfortunately, I had to endure years of being a kid with a father who drank. He wasn't a happy drunk either. For a kid, it's a nitemare. You look to anything to help you cope. Godzilla movies did that for me. Ask a scared kid dealing with an alcoholic father. I imagined Godzilla showing up to help me (I was just a little kid).
Despite the world continuing to be a non-stop landfill inferno, I am happy we are also living in a golden age of kaiju material. Never would I have thought there would be a day where both sides of the Pacific would have good Godzilla movies at the same time.
In case they both can't have goji's ip from toho, would love to see them both collaborating on a different project one day, another kaiju movie or not, I wanna support it and pay a good fortune to see it!
What a wholesome interview this is. Both these guys have made a Godzilla movie basically at the exact same time. You wouldn't expect to see them sit down and chat, because naturally you would expect alot of competitiveness and tension between them both but that's not the case at all. It's just two amazing directors, expressing their love and passion for Godzilla and monster movies. There even complimenting eachothers work. So wonderful to watch ☺️
Awesome conversation! Me and Takashi have similar tastes, 54 and GMK are number 1 and 2 in my top 10. Loved how minus one combined them in a way. Looking forward to GxK in a few weeks too!
