That place is beautiful....keep people out of it. 😆 I remember going there in the late 70's to visit somebody staying in one of the rooms. And if I remember I saw mosaic on the floor that was loose but the wood framed elevator and a wood baluster stairway next to it and thought. It'll be a shame when they tear it down. Just thinking of how people like new buildings but are just plain Jane the same inside them. The other day realized going to Howe school as a kid and all the exposed pipe and big doors and stairwells. And then moving to Ackworth around "74" and going to a new junior high in Indianola after they built onto the H.S. a year later with flat walls and ceiling board. Completely boring. But I remember Howe as being a new experience every day finding something I hadn't noticed before. Sometimes new ain't that great. And can't recall if it was younkers that had the old double gate man controlled elevators that I used to think was amazing. Now that I think about it a lot of elevators in dsm in the 60's were man controlled. Now it's just buttons and a stainless steel door closing. So was life more interesting a while back. 🤷 Probably why so many people do drugs because the imagination is dead. Nothing to look at and be amazed. I remember telling the elevator operators how cool I thought it was that they were using the throttle of the elevator andvthe door closing. They weren't impressed. Maybe more people that enjoy a place should be hired and trained to keep the vibrance in a place instead of bland trained monkeys that don't appreciate where they are but have education and complaining about wanting a new place to work in. Same as crossing over the old steel singing bridges like the one that passed over the rr tracks on 14th street. All the framework and looking through the roadway and listening to the tires making a different song every time. To now just low concrete same same bridges everywhere. I remember having or loving to cross an old steel bridge going to my great grandparents farm by Conger and having to get out and move boards around to fill the holes in it to drive over it. And directing my dad to get over it. Mid 60's I had to talk him into going over it one last time before they finished the concrete one replacing it. 😆 Bland as in the flag for dsm. 🤦 who thought that up🤷 3 or four humps and that's it? That's the cities flag, disgusting. The rivers are more iconic than 3 or 4 humps on a flag. The city wasn't named after the bridges...who thought up this flag. I don't want to fly it🤷 I mean the rivers, the old fort would have been more accepted. I'm guessing outside out of state influence and their idea of 3 or 4 humps on a flag was made for a quick decision. The rivers with the city skyline surrounded by them the old fort idk. 🤷 But anything is better than 3 or 4 humps. 🚶🏼‍♂️🚪🇺🇲 I guess they were thinking about how cheap they could make it with dye instead of embroidered. Maximum profit zero enjoyment. Natives of dsm ought to come up with their own design and see what sells. Then when the citizens are flying more of their own design and the city council says maybe we should change.....disallow them. Force them to fly what they voted on. And everybody else what they want. I mean fer fk sake we have eagles in dsm as well. 🤷 You'd think they'd put a couple animals in the picture... but no we get graphic design dyed flags with 3 or 4 humps that resemble bridges. Good grief🤦 And another thing, des moines was shaped by a glacier🤷 not 3 or 4 humps on a flag. Not only that the colors are disgusting what are they blue and green humps or something. It's friggin ugly. A glacier stopping where a city is forming, a couple rivers surrounding it with some creeks, a fort and an eagle with deer grazing possibly bison. Embroidered not dye printed 🤷 That's more like something I would be happy to fly, the history
