I just went to msi and the new train exhibit got rid of the tour and the animatronics. I came right here when I got home to relieve my childhood. Thanks so much for documenting this great exhibit!
When I was young I used to have the fear that if I touched the engine on this it would just explode instantly. But seriously I'm proud to have this around my home city, great piece of railways history
Is the cab isolated from the engine and generator. It looks like the generator is almost in the cab. Surely it was partioned off, the noise from the engine plus the heat of an engine room was incredible
@@travelingtom923 I thought there would be. The train appeared in the exceedingly corn 1934 motion picture The Silver Streak. Well the train is rattling along at In excess of 125mph on sharp curves and head on trains but diverted onto sidings at the last moment, very Buster Keaton I thought. The cab didn't have doors so I saw the generator. Woe I thought, the cab would be like hell with the heat and noise. Been in a few engine rooms on diesel locos and the Temperature is that hot you could almost roast meat.
Good news the Wisconsin northern railroad is restoring the mark twain zephyr to running condition they've bought the whole train including a 5th rail car and are planning to run it on there track.
