its near to impossible to open the controller without breaking the 2 side tabs located near 'triangle' 'circle' (and on the up left buttons). hats off to anyone who shows a technique to open without breaking them. . Btw its a good channel; answers most of my ps4 questions; especially fan sound and temperature videos. thanks.
There's no way not to break them. They're extremely thin and very brittle. Thankfully, they don't really matter because the screws do the major share of the work holding it all together.
You will. The small snap catches on the left and right are nearly guaranteed to break. The springs used for the L2 and R2 buttons are almost guaranteed to fall out while disassembling. Putting those springs back into place is tedious at best.
Watching this from four years so shows how much you’ve improved in showmanship and production quality. Many thanks for all the years of informative videos.
I think an in depth video of upgrading the hard drive in the ps4, backing hard drives up for the upgrade, or replacing a broken/cracked case or any of the consoles! It's awesome that you guys listen to your viewers/customers. I know a bunch of us requested this. Keep doing awesome things guys!
“You can hear...” You can hear it alright. What you’re hearing is the actual snapping/breaking of the plastic hinges that keep the controller shut tight. Almost every single person I’ve ever seen open a DualShock 4 absolutely neglects opening it perfectly, without breaking any part of the controller. iFixit warns about breaking them but it doesn’t teach or show the layperson how to do it.
Even though this video is quite old, it's still really helpful! Thanks a lot! I often broke all of the clips because I didn't know how to safely detach them.
I really appreciate the way you actually described where the plastic pieces are. I actually broke all the plastic pieces in both my controllers because nobody said anything about the pieces just pushing down on the r2 l2 buttons. Thank you though. Now maybe I can spend another 40 bucks and not snap the plastic if the battery won't power up
Thank you very much for this. It was super helpful. I didn't have the pry tool for this, but I used the one for my bike tubes, and it did the job. In case it helps anyone.
This helped me alot and also one thing you didn't mention is the hidden reset button make sure that hasn't fallen out and is in place when you re assemble
Followed this but because it was so far away I couldn’t see properly and ended up breaking the 2 triggers. Thanks for warning us about them being so delicate when separating the case.
It's you and yours teams Chanel do videos that make you happy. Continue to pay attention to the comments! If you see a lot of people that need help with a particular thing then do a video on that. Stay true to what you and the team want!
This did help. My controller was very hard to get apart, but watching these steps and seeing how it comes apart was enough. I removed the LED on my controller to help save battery and it worked great. Ripping out the LEDs can ruin the controller if not done right.
Wow.. watching this in May 2023 and my, how far you've come since this video was uploaded, Steve! So barebones in here compared to the repair & test area you use now! Good for you! (and us!) Congrats on the progress 😍🎮 EDIT: mine was a total pig to open.
"the hardest part in the whole video is not filmed at all". What does that even mean? No explanation of what you're talking about is less helpful than this video. Laaaame
I'd like to continue seeing how to videos. I would suggest some closer views though, to help with some of the tricky areas. Such as the tabs, plugs and such. Right now, my problem is the sprint function in black ops. I heard disassembling the dualshock 4, and using compressed air in and around the L3 button helps. It may actually need complete replacing. I can find a module online, and do it myself by soldering and save a ton of cash. That would make a great video for you guys to do. Thanks : )
I'd love to see more videos on fixing controller problems. For example, on one controller, the R2 barely works; even when I took the trigger off and pressed the rubber myself.
Feedback here !!! I’m new here, found out your video about opening DualShock 4 without breaking, unfortunately just saw it after trying to open one and breaking the plastics locks. Anyway I would ask for you to record your videos with a camera closer to your hand, so we can see the details, it would be so much better. You have a great content here, keep up the good job, and if it’s possible do another vídeos opening controllers with zoomed details.
Just a fyi the cases from the original black and green camo are different, just tried to swap guts as the black has rarely been used and the green camo L3 is in full grind mode, also the ribbons are inverse to the black one...but thanks for showing me how to pull it apart
I took it apart and I but of glass at the front snapped off. Just wondering if that will drastically change anything in the controller. By the way great vid man thanks 👍🏽
Hi great instructional videos, just wondering have you repaired the PS4 Scuf controller? Can they be fixed? They have a special security screw on them that stops users taking them apart without damaging the screw or the case. The usual failure is the microswitches under the paddles. Thanks
+TronicsFix they are basically the same as the ps4 same main board same charging port pcb but the additional pcb they add in for the bottom paddles the microswitches fail over time and they are very expensive to repair as you haven't send them back to Scuf for them to fix security screw is the main issue as it is a screw type I've never seen before if you Google Scuf 4ps security screw under images you will see what I'm talking about, maybe you know what it is?
+TronicsFix any idea what type of screw it is? Users on Reddit users think it's a pentalobe screw but impossible to find a driver that fits it and Scuf won't sell you a driver for it, I myself think it's a specially commissioned security screw otherwise it would be easy to buy the proper bit off eBay to take it out
My friend has this ps4 new series controller, z axis on L stick acts abnormal, should he replace the whole stick or its a board (permanent) problem?. Thanx.
Can you do a video on how to fix the buttons? Have an issue with my O button and it's a fairly new controller. I see a lot of videos with people having issues with the X button with no permanent solution.
For all people complaining and crying about the controller already being loose and can't get the screws out. This is my first time taking my controller apart and I had no problem, I used a husky brand ratcheting screwdriver set with a crvph0 bit with a star shaped head. I used a mini Phillips head to pry open and no damage whatsoever. Just because you have those smooth baby hands don't make excuses against the video because if your low skill levels.
Hi! I have the Razer controller, and I have a problem that my L3 button is completely loose. But the Big problem is that it's not possible to screw it up cause there is no screws... Any idea what to do??
For some reason, the screws don't budge when I use my philips screwdriver which fits in fine. I didn't want to force it at the risk of stripping the screws. Suggestion video: When PS4 Neo comes out, do a video on how to change its HDD (if allowable) in case it turns out to be a different way to the current PS4.
+Eraezr If it's the right size screwdriver then just push down hard while you are turning...this should get them loose. Yes, we plan on getting the new PS4 once it comes out and checking it out.
I have the same problem and I tried using force too none of them are coming out I tried on an old controller so the screw driver works but none of the screws on the other controller are budging
at work i use a regular screwdriver with the star end to get it started then i switch to my power screw driver sometimes dirt glues it in there so a bit of torque first frees it up.
hey can you help me? i watched another video on fixing my analog stick but my controller light wont turn on or charge. i plugged everything back in to my knowledge correctly. what else could be wrong now?
What if u have a a little piece stuck where u plug in ur headset can I just remove it from screwdriving the top of the controller and it will fall out?
No, hidden screws he said, not like other controllers (am assuming he meant Xbox). WHAT ABOUT THE HIDDEN SCREW UNDER THE BATTERY? If I hadn’t removed the battery I would of broken the control card and need another new controller thanks to you. So much for no hidden screws!
my quick menu keeps popping up and after a while, the controller will disconnect. if i dont touch the controller, it will reconnect itself. i hope you can give me ideas what to do
I got a controller with 2 buttons not working (D-Pad down and L1), they are not sticking, they just don't register any input. Took mine apart and didn't see any dirt or any noticeable things that would indicate the problem. Put it back together and the buttons are still not working. What would the next step be?
Hi friend, I know I'm a little annoying, but this is the last question. My dualshock 4 suddenly started to fail. the X button doesn't work, so I took it apart, but I realized everything was ok, but I dont know what happend because sometimes it works only for awhile, then start failing again, I have bought another new dualsock, but I'd like to know if I can repair it or I'll have another paperweight. thanks for your atention.
Sometimes my right joystick moves to the left quickly but briefly decently often I'd say like 3-4 times a day I play competitive shooters need my aim thoughts please help
I have a PS4 controller that has a busted USB port. I replaced it now it doesn't turn on or anything. I'm not sure what to do now. Any help would be great thanks.
DixieBoy380 is not about the controller being open to many times it would be the same if he was opening a brand new controller the difference is that he has opened to many controllers and he has a lot of experience opening controllers so he makes look easy but it’s he the one who makes it seem easy because he has a lot of experience and not the controller having been open too many times
