I appreciate the distinction between "getting used to" and "like". These cats definitely weren't _happy_ with being bathed, but they knew to tolerate it.
true, and they learned that it will end, that it will not harm them, and that afterwards there will be something nice. Though some cats realize they enjoy water once they gotten over their fear. Its just the same as with children. If you treat them right and have them have lots of positive or at least not scary experiences with water, they will at worst maybe not love swimming, but most will enjoy it and some will love it. But when you wait till they are 6 or 7 and the first experience is being thrown into a swimming pool, while everybody laughs about how afraid they are, they will HATE water and will build up fear over their live time. The issue for cats is not that they generally cannot like water, the problem is that humans have a tendency to not give a shit until the cat is sick and needs a medical bath urgently and then force the poor thing into a shower, that is cold, slippery, makes hissing noises and people hold them down and yell at them. And because humans are often just happy when its done, they let the cat go as soon as she is no longer dripping wet. Which makes her hide while still "in wet cloths" which means she is freezing like hell. So is there any wonder that so many cats hate the idea of getting a bath?
I must be so lucky that I should just start playing roulette in Vegas. Our persians just stand in the water; they hate it, but they endure it and take their bath. All my springer spaniels I've had have been the same way. I need to go buy a scratch ticket. (did I just make a pun?)
i really like when cats do a slow mo walk when theyre in the bath, mine does it where he chills in the bath but thinks if he walks slowly enough with enough purpose that the bath will end lmao
Lmao my cat’s learned that it’ll go quicker if he doesn’t fight. He’s the favorite cat at the salon bc he’ll be making biscuits for the veterans’ breakfast while being brush brushed. He’s a Maine Coon
Thank you very much, Vanessa, for taking my two adorable kitties and grooming them. I am very surprised that Lil Bibi did not resist when you trimmed her sanitary area and hind paws… maybe because she knows i easily get frustrated and give up at the end. She looks SO CUTE in your video!! I’m going to share this with my friends and family
You surely have beautiful, beautiful cats! They are incredibly well trained, it's clear that you care for them a lot and you're a great owner. We need more human companions like you!
I called him bububear because he would get into a lot of accidents, hence “boo boos”. He was a rambunctious kitten that was always getting into trouble. But i also liked the name Boo-Boo Bear (I wrote it as “Bububear” instead) from that old cartoon TV show Yogi Bear.
Yup, I totally agree, getting your cat used to a home bath as a kitten is a GREAT idea, for all the reasons mentioned in this vid. Cats may not "need" baths in the wild, but they also don't live much longer than 5 years on average, often dying of things like mange - so natural and better aren't always the same. Slow and gentle grooming and bathing when young and more open to new experiences will make it easier on you in the long run. Even Domestic Shorthairs can benefit from a bath twice a year or so. Too many people think nail trims are the same as declawing, and that baths are unhealthy and too stressful. This doesn't need to be the case. These are lovely cats, and they reflect well on their owners.
There's not much better than a very floofy love bug cat except for more than one floofy love bug cat. I don't prefer the flat-faced cats, but both of these felines won my heart, and the black German Shephard wasn't too shabby either. So many pets, so little money. If I had the funds, Lord only knows how many lovely critters I'd have.
@@tawnyeyes368 - Kazoo’s beautiful. But he loved complaining (which was very entertaining and befitting his trash-goblin status😸) These beauties and Tolstoy didn’t even go that far
Like all activities cats have a time limit regardless if they enjoy it or not. Bububear seems to love the attention, mad props to the owners who took the time to teach these lovely siblings that a professional grooming appointment doesn't have to be scary.
Glad to hear you've been to Kazakhstan, my home country :) I hope you liked it! Our animal laws are getting better, so hopefully we'll have more and better shelters for animals. Love your videos!
@Maika Cool info about your country and its animal laws. Glad she went there to help cats and dogs and does so in other plsces too. Greetings from Chicago in the US
Calm kitties are adorable, while watching you do battle with some feisty one's is hilarious and I get a good chuckle you do deserve easy gooms every once in a while. 😂 🤗
Since he’s a mix already, I wonder if he might not have the father his breeder planned him to have. After all, a litter can have multiple fathers, and it’s not unheard of for purebred cats to end up with a few kittens that look like the neighborhood stray. ;) Regardless of how he came to be, he is very handsome!
@@CatsAndPokemon Contrary to common belief, smooshed faced cats don't have breathing issues like smooshed faced dogs do. Instead they have eye infections and leaking due to to the smooshed face and overly large eyes that sometimes bulge.
We had a silver-shaded Persian growing up, and her face wasn't smooshed. Her muzzle was still pretty short, just not smooshed, which seems to be common among the shaded types. She was such a gorgeous cat,
I rescued a flame point Himalayan many years ago. She was filthy from living outside in the woods. I bathed her first thing she didn't like it, but she tolerated it. They are laid back, good natured kitties.
I rescued my cat from the busy highway in May and I’m determined to train her to get used to things like bathing, ear cleaning, and nail trimming. Cats can definitely be trained. It’s true.
Meghan, cats sure can be trained. Most people don't give felines nearly enough credit for what they can learn. It's just that sometimes they're not in the mood for what mommy wants them to do.
Such excellent advice about grooming and bathing cats. I have a Blue Point Birman who was shown to a Grand Premier title in CFA cat shows, and I can tell you that it is absolutely possible to have a cat that is accustomed to being bathed and groomed regularly. I’m not saying they ever learn to LOVE the bath, but they will tolerate it! I also have a Siberian (who has never been shown), and both cats willingly jump up onto the grooming table to be brushed and combed. They actually push each other out of the way. It’s all in what they become accustomed to a young age.
So true about getting cats used to the grooming process bc you never know when you’ll need to bathe them! Our little black void has been bathed since she was about 5 months old, and doesn’t mind it anymore. My in-laws have 6 year old cats that we tried to bathe once and failed. One of them is really chonky and can barely groom herself now :( can’t imagine at age 12 what that will be like
I have owned up to 7 cats and 1 dog at once. I’m now down to one 17- y/o dog. I adopt for life. I bathed my cats from early on so it wasn’t difficult and they didn’t freak out. I must say I’ve recently found your channel and the first night marathon watched for hours! It’s informative, instructive, you treat your clients with kindness, and have a delightful and comedic touch of sarcasm personality that I find so entertaining. Thank you for doing what you do for community as well, helping those animals and sometimes their owners, in need. Selfless and inspiring! God bless!!
I had a Persian cat in my childhood. She loved the water and would often ask to be let in when someone was taking a bath, sitting on the edge and having her tail float atop of water. She was perfectly fine with taking a bath herself. From what I have learned, Persian kitties tolerate water procedures and grooming very well.
Great example of Great parents teaching them that some human grooming is necessary from time to time...Ty for sharing...Blessings to them & their family!!!
so well behaved and beautiful! I'm a first time cat owner and I didn't know about training for bath from kittenhood. since he's an indoor cat, we rarely bathed him. sadly after 3 years, I have been forced to bathe my cat twice a week for months with medicated shampoo because of a newly discovered allergy that caused bald patches 😔 watching your videos has been very helpful in this learning process! my cat still obviously dislikes baths and runs out of patience when I get to towel drying, but he rarely tries to escape now 😅 thanks so much for all of your tips! 💕
You are absolutely right about teaching your cats at our early age to love water because my cat he’s I think he’s about six years old and he is terrified of water, terrified of sinks, but loves to go in the shower and just sit in the shower with no water one it’s the weirdest thing ever
I got my 1st cat at 19 half a life time ago and even then I got him and later on his longhaired brother used to water. They were both accepting of water, to say they enjoyd it would be 1 step too far but you could bath them without any problem (besides them both singing the songs of their people to you LOL) Ever since then all animals that entered my home have been trained to accept all handelings of grooming (washing face, shaving, scissors, brushing and so on. You never know how it may come in handy) my 1st cat had to have bowel sugery and for months after that he had verry thin bowel movement and I was soooo glad he was used to being bathed. That made his and my life so much easier. So yes, get them used to it as soon as possible, you will thank yourself for it some day!
We never bathed either of our two cats, mostly because we didnt need to. However, our eighteen year old boy started experiencing some health issues in his final six months, which meant going to the vet a few times. Poor boy experienced car sickness and a nervous tummy, so would also poop all over himself. So we had no choice but to try to shower his down. Turns out, not only did he cope with it, but he enjoyed it and he relaxed. Had we known that, we would have given him chilled out soaks more often. Bless his heart, he was such a mellow dude, so I shouldnt be shocked that he coped so well with the bath. We won't be having cats again, for various reasons, but if I had my cat days over again, I would start them on monthly baths from kittenhood. Such lovely cats in this video.
I’m glad you pointed out that cats can be trained. I think people try to train them like a dog and are unsuccessful. You gotta make a cat thinks it’s their idea to do what you want them to do!
They are so beautiful and silky!!! You can absolutely train cats. Mine run to me like dogs when I call and wait for me at the door when I come home. Love them to much.
God, Lil Bibi just looks so SAD the whole time. She doesn't scream or fight, she just looks like she's been betrayed by her best friend ever. She's breaking my heart!
I have two rescued Persian Cats and they LOVE going to the pet store! They love being bathed, a flat faced 6 year old girl and a Doll face 6 year's old boy. Persian are the sweetest thing 🧡🧡🧡
I rescued a white “Doll Face” Persian / Himalayan 17 years ago this November, from a storage building at my work... Very similar looking to BuBuBear. He just showed up one day, with a black short-hair. Coworker took the black one. I actually rescued another cat (almost identical to the black one I found him with) 2 yrs later. Still have both, and a 4 y/o Doberman too !
Wow those cats were super good kitties. They deserve a kitty treat. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾😺♥️♥️♥️ We need more people like you in the world. Thank you for doing these videos and your care and compassion for animals.
What polite cats! I feel sorry for Bibi's flat face (which I'm sure comes with all sorts of health conditions) but she deserves just as much love and care as any other cat. It's clear she and bububear are getting that attention :)
Absolutely well-behaved and tolerant. Kudos to the owners and to the kitties themselves for being so reasonable. Which, with such high-maintenance coats, is an immense relief... Just imagine taking care of those furs if they were a little more spicy...
Thank you for talking about bathing older cats who just can't do a very good job grooming themselves. I got so much hate from my local cat group with people calling me names for bathing my elderly gentleman. I hope people see this and get a clue.
100 agreed that you CAN TRAIN CATS, people need to stop thinking they cant. It takes trust, patience and sticking to routines with cats as well as dogs. Bathing cats at least once a month is good for their coats and possible getting stray fleas esp in the summer. Like she said the sooner you get them used to it the better, also like with toddlers you dont need deep water to bath cats. Shallow water is best with cats and having a cup ready to get the soap out extremely well so they dont get soap build up in their coats.
