Om with you Douglas, they might not be the Original Band except for Doug of course but they have QUALITY Musicians that still play the Music we LOVE @@douglastillett3717
When in the hell is the Marshall Tucker Band going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They deserve it for all the years of entertainment and pure musical talent. If Jethro Tull is in, by God the original lineup deserves it. Just saying!
I just saw them at Harrah's in Cherokee, NC and loved the show. I know Doug can't sing like he did years ago, but damn, he is 71 years old guys! Thumbs up to my hometown man. Love MTB always.
His voice must not be great. This is a sing I hear in my mind I hear doug belting it out, like he did in 1981 when I saw them. July 12 1981 kiel unairconditioned Auditorium. They played almost forever, think they needed Gatorade lol it was so Fucking hot n there, it was sold out !
When there's 3 guitars; 2 Les Paul's an ES 335 AND a Flute, that could mean only one thing: The Marshall Tucker Band!!!! God bless and RIP all members.
Back in the day I played several of their songs in my own little town band. But when Toy passed, so did Marshall Tucker. No one can duplicate the sound he had with the finger plucking.
Jerry Hubbard... I agree with you 100%. All of their best songs Were written by Toy, Paul, and George anyway. This is not the Marshall Tucker I always knew
Top 10 concert for me growing in LA during the 70’s. Starlight Amphitheater -1975. Wild. So very good. Toy was on fire and the band was beyond tight. I saw AMAZING shows 74-77 in LA. You should be jealous. From Zep to Neil and Crazy Horse. Jeff Beck to the Dead. Nuts
Oh My -- Just heard this song on the radio this 8/07/2020 while driving for work. Made the trip soooo much more enjoyable. 70's music is just just just 'sorry' Soulful to me. Stuff today is so much crap! I got home and grabbed my 'Album' collection to remember the best music ever.
Bryan Sadler They're not still around. Doug Gray's there in physical form; his voice hasn't been spotted in decades. Tommy and Toy Caldwell, and George McCorkle have been dead for years. Jerry Eubanks and Paul Riddle wisely departed years ago. This isn't the Marshall Tucker Band. I don't know what the hell it is.
Bryan Sadler But they aren’t still around. I appreciate what Doug has done, but they should have started a new band that paid tribute to one of the greatest bands in history. Just my humble opinion.
@@dph22013 The Tribute Band are out there but Doug and the boys still rockin' it , inna way till' this day.. and everything else that rolls along with it . The guy is 70 yrs 0)
Taint Meat Exactly. Don't taint the memory of the real music and players by listening to a cover band with an original lead "singer." Go back and listen to the music from the seventies. If you can't tell the difference, I don't know what the hell to tell you, man.
I've had the wonderful opportunity of playing with all of these guys. Amazing musicians and really good people. The music was never about the original members, it was for fans. No matter who's playing the music, MTB is forever!!! :D :D NEVER GETS OLD!!!!
+PJB1775 You're right. The music had nothing to do with Toy and Tommy Caldwell, George McCorkle, Jerry Eubanks, Paul Riddle and Doug Gray when he had a voice. It's only about covering the songs they wrote and played 40 years ago. Come to think of it, since I play a bit of guitar myself, perhaps I'll change my name to Jimmy Page and start a band called Led Zeppelin. . . then again, maybe Duane Allman/Allman Bros. has a nicer ring to it.
Would you rather these songs just never be played live again? Would that make you happy? Why do you complain so much? Jeez. Anyway, I'm looking forward to jammin' with Doug and the boys on the Rock Legends Cruise later this month. Gonna have a good time. Cheers!
Marcus James Henderson kicks some serious butt! Multi-talented artist and supper sweet person also! I remember when he first joined Tucker back in 2008. He was a wonderful addition to the band! Love my Tucker Family, all of them. Great friends
This is exactly why these guys deserve to be in the RRHOF.. since the 70s they have had such amazing talent in this band and always will ., what a great band to represent the true artistic experience in the music industry today
There's no way this band should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke considering who they've put in. This band is in a class by themselves and there should be a different Hall of Fame for real rock and roll not rap and disco and crapola. I wouldn't even want to be in that Association anymore it's a joke. Marshall Tucker Allman Brothers Band Lynyrd Skynyrd Johnny Winter Stevie Ray Vaughan the often forgotten Atlanta Rhythm Section. Just a few from the southern rock genre musicians great musicians playing instruments and singing how can you even mentioned in the same phrase Run DMC? There needs to be separate categories. As I recall a turntable what's something you played albums on through your Marantz and jbl's. When did it become an instrument? It's amazing these people calling themselves artists who can't even play a ukulele. To quote the Wicked Witch of the West what a world what a world what a world
Saw the original band in the seventies 3 or 4 times in Huntsville Alabama best concerts I've ever been to and I have been to a lot those Ole boys will never be replaced the album Where We All Belong I think was the best
Saw them Saturday 3/30 in Charlotte, and all critiquing aside, it was an awesome show! It's not the original MTB, but the group Doug assembled is great. Enjoyed every minute of it.
They were unique. They should be the first band to enter into a new category . Country - Blues - Jazz - Classical. Hall Of Fame. They had it all . The Marshall Tucker Band deserves a special place for their ammalgamated influences.
Dam right I was born in 1960 . the music was great in the 70s when I was a teen ..little Miller pony bottles. Boones farm wine..a good joint.and of course. A hit of purple micro dot. What memories
Marcus is killer! Ya'll can say what you want about these guys. I personally love the guys! They are wonderful musicians and each talented in their own right. Yes, Doug handles things a little differently than he used to. Hell, once you get 70 yrs old, I'm sure you will too. I love Doug's stories myself. It's ok with me if he kicks back and lets the other guys sing and play. Doug had throat surgery several yrs ago. Doc told him to take a year off. Doug didn't listen and was back on the road within 6 weeks. I'm sure more damage was done to his vocal chords because of this. I give respect where the respect is due. And, Doug has earned it in my book. These guys are my friends. We go way, way back.I have seen them play a gazillion times. Hope to see them many more times. Peace
It's a shame that Doug Gray has lost his voice. He just can't sing anymore. Incredible voice in his day. I saw them 2 years ago and was shocked to see other guys in the band singing for him. It's just not the same.
Just saw them play for free in downtown Spartanburg.-- my 8th time( also saw Toy 'solo' twice) . Love these songs, even though the style is s bit different on some of them now. IMO Desert Skies Ramblin the beloved Fire on the Mountain we the highlights Doug is more like the host now, and Marcus Henderson is a way-multifaceted musician. It's more like an MTB tribute band now, especially in the absence of Toy and his thumb-driven guitar playing, and no original guys save for Doug. Two things Doug said on stage hit me- (pointing) ' We started just a couple of blocks over there on Spring Street'(I had just walked down it to get to the square where the stage was set up) and (intro' ing Can't You See) 'This song's been played 130 million times' and not joking. He must be talking about all artists who have played it,live or recorded , because if he's right that puts it even ahead of Stairway To Heaven.....thanks for reading and thanks for the music Toy, Tommy, Doug, Paul, George ,Jerry and all who loved them
It was great seeing MT B in Charleston SC with Zac Brown Band on a tv concert, I taped it. they were great. they were great. the whole show was 6 howers long and worth every ounce of great intertainment.
HFTONE ...less than mediocre...I used to get my tickets months in advance and the best I could get...I wouldn't see them today for free...front row seat, with a backstage pass and Doug telling me about the Vietnam days...what an egotistical man.
I ain’t here to judge...just to say how fortunate I was to see the ORIGINAL MTB...Outlaws...CDB snd Skynyrd..numerous times at the Mecca...Winterland in San Francisco...Doug was a monster on vocals...
When he is playing the flute does it slightly remind you of Jethro Tull’s tone in terms of approach and style with regards to this specific instrument? Great song!
My wife and I saw MTB as newlyweds in 1978 at the Purdue University Hall of Music. An incredible show. We saw Doug and some guys who call themselves MTB twice in 2018 because they were opening for Skynyrd. Very sad. Doug needs to give it up. He can’t sing (sadly holding the mic out to the crowd and saying “you sing it” way too much). Just not the same and not even close. MTB had such energy. Now the sense you get is it’s all about scheduling dates and making a little bank. No Tommy bass solo during 24 Hours at Time, (hell, no 24 Hours at a Time for that matter...). No Toy “Thundering Thumb”. No Jerry sax. Breaks my heart. If you don’t know what they were like live back in the day suggest you check out Stompin Room Only. Thank God someone recorded them live. No one will ever play like that again. I repeat, Doug needs to give it up.
i know these guys i acutally got the set list from them when i went to wild bills and that is doug gray and this is the orignal band so quit all you guys that say they are a cover band this is the real deal and these guys were great i got to met doug gray after the show and he has invited me to sing with him next time they are in the area so i may do that.that would be awesome and get to sing with these guys one of my favorite rock legends.
the only original member left of the MTB is Doug Gray. This video is of several bands jamming together for the last song of the night on the Rock Legends cruise. All, excellent musicians in their own right.
PJB1775 Yeah, and I just declared myself an official member of Spinal Tap. What exactly are they official members of and why hasn't Doug's official license been revoked for impersonating a singer?
This is still a damn good band, Toy Tommy and George are all deceased so this is what we have and they are a darn good man especially that guitarist with the gold top Chris Hicks he is a huge Talent!
This is really sad. I saw the MTB open for the Allman Bros. in the 70's, next year, they were head lining shows. Saw them many times over the decades, I still listen to their old music. The last time I saw them, Doug had throat surgery, and could not sing, he tried converting the concert into a comedy hour, it didnt work. This flute solo is the worst thing I heard in many years, as well as this horrible song. They are a cover band now, no resemblance to the MTB. Like others have said, time to give it up. I will continue to listen to their old stuff, and leave it all at that.
@@richardlawson6787 I got to see Jerry sit in with a band in a dive bar in Spartanburg a few times years ago. He still had that magic too. I believe Paul Riddle and Jerry both still live in Upstate SC and can still play. At least they were smart enough to know when to pack their bags and walk away. Sorry - couldn't help myself there. :)
Blackberry Smoke does a killer version of this with Marcus.Charlie Starr is something special. Reminds me of Toy Cauldwell. Chris Hicks has a great Y.T. Channel called “Southern Rock Insider” Does background in M.T.,ABB Etc.
yeah...its pretty sad for the former marshall tucker band...although doug grey gets up on stage he does not perform...so...this is a farce as at least one former member needs to be able to perform...time to hang up the saddle and honor the original members who bled for this band
The reason Doug has lost his voice is due to singing this song. There are still pieces of his lungs hanging from the rafters of the MS Gulf Coast Coliseum from a 1978 show. The sound/pa crew have built a shrine up there, they burn incense and all that stuff, they tell me, especially before rap/hip hop shows. You can't see it from down below, but it's there.
are you kidding me.......doug grey doesn't sing this song anymore? This is NOT the Marshall Tucker Band. It is a cover band. The Caldwell Brothers are rolling over in their graves
I recently saw them for the first time......I was really disappointed in Doug. He could not sing or even stay on time with the music. The flute player is the real talent in that band!
10:25 way to merge a little Jimi's ''Third Stone from the Sun'' in there! ''If there is anything to be changed in this world, it can only happen through music.''-Jimi ''There are Artists who rest us up & place us into Themselves! These are the 'One's' who continue to wrest us up... Even beyond Their rests in peace.'' -gilpin 4618
The gullibility of people who think this is the Marshall Tucker Band -- or that Doug Gray has any business calling himself the lead singer of the Marshall Tucker Band post-1983 -- is stunning. Absolutely stunning.
This lineup is only missing FIVE MEMBERS of the original SIX: Toy on guitar, and Tommy Caldwell on bass, George McCorkle on the other guitar and Jerry Eubanks the flute player plus Paul Riddle the original drummer. That's all the band has lost over 40 years. Nothing to see here. That said, these guys are VERY GOOD even if they have to work around Doug's limitations. The Allman Brothers also had to work around Gregg Allman before they finally brought that band to an end.
jaxflfreebird please don't compare this with any version of the ABB. Gregg was performing pretty well and the whole band was still one of the best around.
The other guitar player to Doug's left has long hair in this video. I don't recall seeing him with long hair in the other videos I have seen. Maybe he had his hair tied behind his head. I think he looks a little like a much young Dave Hlubek of Molly Hatchet, from a distance anyway. And who is that guy to Chris's right?
I agree. Chris is very talented. Toy Caldwell would STILL be proud of this band. Doug is surrounded by incredible talent. And they have the wisdom and DECENCY to work with Doug in his vocally diminished condition. They treat him like the father figure, the grandfather figure that he is. It just wouldn't be the MTB without Doug. I'm glad he's still here just croaking as he does. He can't help it if time has caught up with him. A lot of older singer's can't do what they did in their younger days. Most singers suffer the ravages of time and they all show it to some degree. I think Doug could work with a vocal coach and if he got into better shape, lost some weight, he'd get back some of his ability to project vocally. The weight presses on the lungs and extra weight will affect one vocally if they are a singer.
I really enjoyed reading your comment. I'm a huge Chris Hicks fan. He's killer. I'm also happy that the band is still trucking along, especially Doug and think also that Toy would be proud of these guys.
Kurt, just look up the meaning of the word preposterous please. I said nothing PREPOSTEROUS. Just what is OUTRAGEOUS and CRAZY or NONSENSICAL about my comment. So I thought the guitar player looked a bit like Dave Hlubek from when he was young. OK, so maybe he DOES NOT look a think like the guy. OK, is that my CRAZY comment. If so, then I stand called out. Sure, Dave Hlubek in his prime had LONG HAIR. Later he got very FAT. He's been looking like a JOKE for decades now. I don't even know how he is still alive. I guess he has good genes and a strong heart. OK, so you disagree. Sorry for being so OUTRAGEOUS with my comments.
