An intelligent educated and fair minded Boston Bruin fan? Wow I didn't think people like you existed. Learn something new every day 😅🤣 Btw, great video. As a diehard Habs fan the only thing missing here is giving proper credit to Captain Suzuki who has led the team in scoring every year for last 3 years including the playoffs in 2021. Slafkovsky's season turned around after he was put on the 1st line with Slick Nick. Also RHP Scored 14 goals in half a season after he was put on the 1st line with Suzuki -due to injuries. He's been a bust ever since. Nick Suzuki just makes everyone who plays with him better but never gets proper credit. PPG Player

not a habs fan but they are a team i like to see do well. i like the rebuild that gm hughes has done so far. this team is still 2-3 years away from a p-off spot. but there's a lot of positives. blueline is stacked with young talent. my favorites are guhle and arber. as the team gets better, montreal should look at using some surplus draft capital and d-men to take advantage of assets from teams against the cap. i liked the draft with demidov and hage. ivan demidov is considered to be "the whole package" and the talk is he's coming to MTL in a year's time from the KHL. i think for this year, if they can slice down the league-leading # of 1-goal loss games (24) from last year, and flip half of those into wins, that would help the team's confidence. coach MSL has done a good job thus far, with getting the best he can out of guys and having them work hard in games. wishing MTL all the best, except when they play tampa. 😉

@BaconNationChannel appreciate your kind words. 💙 i'm actually a tampa guy. been watching nhl since 1980 at 6 years old. montreal and edmonton are the canadian teams i like to see do well. MTL has had an impact on my life as a hockey fan. the fanbase is passionate and can be crazy at times to be polite lol. thing is the fans actually care about the team and want them to do well. attendance has been consistent even in the lean times. believe it or not, MTL was actually in danger of relocating in 2000. the team was put up for sale and no local buyers wanted to buy the team. fortunately an american guy named george gillett bought the team and promised to keep it in montreal. he did a fantastic job fixing the business of the canadiens and sold the team back to the molson family in 2009. it would be a shame if MTL had left but am glad they are financially stable. i really hope they can make the p-off's in a few years time. i enjoy talking about the canadiens from time to time, and most of the habs people are polite if not nice. 👏 all the best with whomever you are rooting for, except when they play tampa lol. 😉 -cheers, steven

The Habs' points total is misleading. It was an incremental improvement over the previous season, but they had A TON of overtime losses. That means a lot of those games could have gone the other way and the Habs would have been on the doorstep of a playoff spot. High hopes for the coming year.
@Tyler_Chicken

Plenty of Habs pointing at OTL and 1 goal regulation losses but the lineup is simply too flawed. You're not going to win much playing Matheson 25mins and a weak right defense. 23-24 was entertaining and 24-25 should be as well. I'm just not optimistic about team success.

Rest of the team will come along and I trust Kent Hughes and Martin St. Louis to pull the trigger to push for a return to the playoffs at the right time, which sounds like it could be as soon as 2025-26. This is the team in the East that most are sleeping on in my opinion. Towards the end of the season they were starting to show signs of being difficult to play against. Good that you mention Harvey-Pinard, unfortunately he got injured and this prevented him to build his momentum on his last season, I would see him has a 3rd line winger but can be put on the 2nd line if injury occurs because of his work ethic and offensive touch, he showed his offensive skills playing with Suzuki when everybody was injured 2 years ago ! If Montreal has to move another defense, I would trade Barron before Struble or Harris !

Habs probably have the best defense prospects group in the league. If they can find a couple more top 6 forwards, they'll be laughing. Demidov potential wise should definitely slot in there. Newhook, Dach, etc. I don't think those are guys you'd want to be in your top 6 on a contending team. I'm sure within the next couple of years, though, they'll be able to find some better top 6 options. Kent Hughes has gotta be looking at cashing in on Matheson at the deadline this year. A contending team will pay handsomely for him, and they have in house options to replace him.

As a lifetime Habs fan I think there is a lot to be hopeful for. Dach of course is a cause for concern and perhaps Xhekai as well. They both have shown themselves to be injury prone. I know it's a bit early to predict what will happen this coming season: Improvements yes, playoffs no. My thinking is they'll hang around until February maybe even early March but they will fade from a playoff spot. As was said improvement will be incremental.........unless they overacheive. Will want to see them be better at turning leads into wins especially in regulation.

@HarryRiceHockey 2 месяца назад
Montreal has a ton of potential, I still think they surprise a lot of people by being competitive for the wild-card for most of the year, I'm hoping to just be playing meaningful games come March and April, and not just playing spoiler for Detroit again. I don't think Roy or Gallagher gets the 2nd line role, I could see it being Armia given he had a very respectable season last year, as well I think they want to work Newhook to the 2LW given he looked a bit uncomfortable at Center last year, and seemed to play better during that very brief time we saw him with Dach at the start of the year. As for the blue-line I still think Harris is getting traded, it's been basically known since last year's trade deadline that we were trying to move him given we have such a logjam there. I think Reinbacher and Mailloux are sent down to get top 2 AHL ice time, Hutson I see being on the 2nd pair with Savard to pair up his explosive offence with someone who has a much more defensive game. Barron I'm iffy on if he gets sent down or is used as a 7th D like Kovacevic was last year. I believe the top line of Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky is going to explode offensively this year for at least 80 points each they all look so natural with each other. I believe Demidov comes up next year and gets the 2nd line spot immediately, but I wouldn't be surprised if we start him 3rd line just to break him in the way we did Slafkovsky 2 seasons back.
@4u2nvHock3y

Gallagher just continues to get undervalued. He played in every game other then the 5 games he got suspended for and had 15 goals 12 assists at 5 on 5 for 27 points. Playing 3rd line minutes with low help shows to me at least he's just as good as his 2017 days just without the minutes. I also see them adding him to line 2 with Newhook. At the end of the season the combo of the 2 worked great. Gally posted 5 goals 5 assists in 9 games and Newhook had 3 goals 6 assists in 9 games. Both looked fantastic. Do i expect both to be PPG? No. But if you give Gally 2nd line 2nd PP minutes and he stays healthy with Dach and Newhook I can see him reaching the 20 goal mark no problem. Newhook hitting the 50 point mark and Dach hitting the 30 goal 65 point mark.

Habs fan here. THG calls it well this time - no argument from me whatsoever. It's a slim possibility that Montreal would take enough of a leap forward to vie for a WC spot toward the end of the season. They are in a tough division but so are Ottawa and Buffalo. Last year no other team in the league had a worse record against divisional rivals. Montreal was 5-13-8 vs the rest of the teams in the Atlantic. If their young players develop enough that they find a way to win more games against Ottawa, Detroit, etc. , then yeah, they should improve in the standings. All other things being equal - which, of course, they rarely are.

Once Montreal can trade/release/buyout either Gallagher or Anderson that is when they will be able to go to the next phase of the rebuild. I’m guessing this year if Dach can stay healthy they will finish around 20-25 overall. Between Dvorak savard Evans and armia contract leaving. Montreal's rebuild has been unusual. Typically, at the beginning, a team has a bunch of declining or simply mediocre players on contracts for too much money and too many years. On the way down, they trade those players for draft picks and prospects. Montreal has had all three at the same time. They've been at the top of the list of team salaries and at the bottom of the NHL standings. Was Marc Bergevin trading out his previous bad contracts while simultaneously signing new bad contracts? Perhaps you could update your Bergevin video from 2017?
@benoitrobitaille5235
@benoitrobitaille5235 2 месяца назад
Montreal was simply unable to get out of most of their horrible contracts so far, so they are ending naturally 1 by 1 or are traded on their last season like Hoffman was for the Petry deal. Last season Pearson was acquired and they failed to flip him at the deadline, this season Armia and Dvorak are going off the books. After that only Gallagher’s and Anderson’s contracts are left among the terrible contracts and they are both among the worst in the entire NHL. Almost forgot, there is the Carey Price contract that LTIRetired, that’s one more the Canadiens were unable to trade away do far.

So Im new to the sport and I have to ask: why are Montreal called the Habs? Where does the origin come from? Thanks for the insight.
@vondoktor
@vondoktor 2 месяца назад
The Canadiens were founded in 1909 as the "French" team in Montreal to compete in the Montreal market against the Maroons who were considered to cater to the English speaking community in Montreal. That is why the name is spelled "Canadiens" and not "Canadians". The term "Canadien" was used at that time to refer to the french speaking community. And because those french speaking people (mainly living in the province of Quebec) where considered by English "bourgeoisie" as farmers, they were called the "Habitants" which litterally means "resident" or "inhabitant" but in Quebec means farmers or settlers, So Habs meant at the time french speaking Quebecers!

"lose Price and Weber to injury, neither has played an NHL game since..." Correction: Price did play 5 games at the end of the following season (though he was clearly not at 100%). However, he never played in the NHL after that.

Honestly, MTL has a lot of picks in the next draft in the first 3 rounds, so I would prefer that if they have another year at the bottom of the league, would rather it be this one. Would be nice to have some improvement, but top picks in the first three rounds have much value.

Habs need another top six forward otherwise they are pretty decent and a good bet to make the playoffs. Daniel Sprong would be a good option for 2 years. Habs open the year with.. Caufield- Suzuki- Slafkovsky Newhook- Dach- Sprong Roy- Beck- Gallagher Armia- Evans- Anderson Dvorak, Pezzetta, Harris Mathenson- Guhlie Savard- Hutson Wifi- Mailloux Montembeault Primeau

Hutson and Reinbacher should start in laval until chrismas after that we'll see. Mailloux must outshine the competition and i think he can if not laval too. Gallagher can not be top 6 the legs can't follow any more, if Armia (a big if) continues to play like he did at the end of last year could be a fit on the top 6, but Roy should grab that spot if he's ready

24-25 will be the habs 3rd year of the rebuild, they are nowhere ready to make a push and this is fine. people need to relax with trading matheson and Anderson. Kent Hughes's plan is in the cap : Anderson and Galhager contracts ends in 2027. so 27-28 is where they make their push to the top.

Something I find interesting is that so much of the hockey world is trade talking with Marner, but I never hear anyone talk about trade proposals to the Habs. As a Habs fan, I'm not sure how I would feel about him on the team, but Montreal seems to fit all of the boxes for a Marner trade: - Needs more forward production offensively, Marner has that - Has the cap space to spend on him - Toronto needs blue liners and draft picks, Montreal has tons of blue liners and draft picks to trade - Age wise, fits their rebuild window pretty well

Montreal is going to have a problem 😅. To many players, they cheap when they start... They aren't after tho, we love the team now. But when all the sacrifices arrive, they'll piss fans every time someone leaves 🤣

That is why you trade players. Also why you sign your core to steal deals. Habs will have no real issue with salary cap as long as they don't sign bad contracts. Not every player on that list is going to pan out or remain on the team. No one thinks they will.
