This makes me sad, because my mom taught in public schools for over 35 years and she was an amazing teacher. I know that overall the public school system is failing , but that doesn’t take away from the fact that she worked so hard to do good. And she made such a positive impact on so many children’s lives.
Her character likely limited the negative effects such a system has on students. Unfortunately sometimes our character has to save us from certain principles we learn.
It's been slowly changing over the course of decades. So slow in fact that we didn't notice until the entire thing became batshit insane. It's how the Nazis got Germany to the place that it ended up at. One tiny terrible thing at a time over a long period of time. I'd recommend reading Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning. It's a good thing your mom taught when she did because these liberal democrat schools can't have teachers teaching critical thinking. It runs counter to their indoctrination. Look at Warren Smith, a teacher in Massachusetts that got fired for doing just that. He's not the only one. He's just the most recent that we know about.
If any of y'all are interested in this topic an excellent book that details the history of the American school system is "Underground History of American Education" by John Taylor Gatto
@@JP2GiannaT You are going about this the wrong way. Any large groups of people can, have and will suffer bad apples and even groups of bad apples (doing bath things together). We must use statistics to evaluate large organizations. *Christian schools perform better on all available metrics: attendance rates, graduations rates, reading test scores, math test scores, AP test scores, sports participation rates, college attendance, college completion rates and so forth.* We have DATA. Lots of data. We know how and why Christian schools perform better. Humans and human organizations are nothing like cars, where every sample of every model "is the same" and "comes out the same." And not like DVD recordings where every little disk "is exactly the same." We have to use statistics to make good judgments about real life organizations. Not one metric.. We must measure a broad variety of metrics. "Happiness" is not a metric. What we "like" and "don't like" is not a metric. If we "like" cup holders, the cars with the "nicest cup holders" are not "the best cars."
Public schools teach to the average/below average student's capacity. If your child is exceptional, then he will be lost and bored in public schools. Also, whatever your child's academic level is, he will be at risk of drugs, violence, and sex. Public schools are only slightly preferable to your child working in as an illiterate in a factory.
Yes, this is the truth. A policy of inclusion has various levels of mentally/physically handicapped students being placed in classrooms with healthy children. The end result is that the class time is constantly being interrupted by the handicapped students' behaviors, and the material for the class has to be simplified to meet the disability of the slowest child in the room. Thus, the healthy students are learning little or nothing and will not be able to advance to the degree they could. This is intellectual neglect. We are mass-producing ignoramuses because of this inclusion policy. It is a social agenda that undermines the whole educational mission. If only parents knew what goes on in those classrooms.
I had 3 Nuns as teachers the first 3 years in public school in New Brunswick. We were taught what we needed to know, learned to read, write, play music, sing O'Canada & pray the Lord's prayer. We learned about the Bible, God, righteousness, respect. Canada is now a marxist hellscape. Thanks trudeau. home schooling is the only way to ensure your child gets an education.
My wife teaches music in the public schools. As bad as they are, they sometimes provide a bit of normalcy for children growing up in homes with two "mothers" or two "fathers." (You know what I mean; I can't use the proper word or tolerant/diverse/inclusive/open-minded/non-judgmental RU-vid will delete my post.) Boys and girls that are so unfortunate as to grow up in such circumstances are love-starved. They come to school needing the affection and attention that only the opposite sex can offer. My wife tells me of boys that make up all sorts of excuses - they fell and hurt themselves, so on and so on - just to get a little TLC from a mother-like figure. Although she cannot replace a real mother, my wife tries to offer them some gentle motherly compassion. It's tragic; no, it's evil. But some good does take place at some public schools in that the society that now surrounds them is even worse.
Does anyone have some resources in this topic, true origins of western public school idea? I know some key names, ie Elizabeth (?)Peabody, John Dewey was a hegelian for example. Books, exposé videos?
I can't help but recall 2 things here. The first being this period of I believe late elementary where we learned about the origins and stories behind the different major religions (Siddhartha's journey, Muhammad's teachings, etc) and I the diligent Catholic boy was actually very fascinated with it and I grew to appreciate and consider all these other walks of life. Now my niece goes through school and I hear all these things her teachers kept pushing on her and I was so baffled. My own mother nearly had a fit when she saw my niece's project on Vietnam and how they presented the war (my family ran away from the Communist regime). Second thing that came to mind is the movie "God is NOT Dead", decent enough movie but it was kinda silly, and one of the main critiques people would point out, me included, is that the University Professor was too comically antagonistic and it was unrealistic. Unfortunately, I'm told that apparently a lot of real-life Professors and public teachers are unironically like that guy. I don't think pulling out of public schooling is the answer. There are a lot of social and communication skills that can be lost. Somebody pointed out to me that homeschooling actually allows for more extra-curricular-type time than public schooling but I'm skeptical on how much most households can provide that attention and there's the matter of not being around different sort of people outside your family. I definitely think there needs to be some sort of reform and evaluation on what public education should be.
No, pulling out of public school is the answer. Socialization outside of public schools is possible and options are readily available. Homeschool groups, extra curricular sports, free play time outside are all available and preferable to public school “socialization.” Which basically means the least socially mature people possible are socializing your kids with bad influences. Think sexual deviancy such as trans, gay, fornication, porn, etc.
There are other ways to socialize, like local sports teams. But yes, generally speaking, schools do play a vital role in development. They just need to be reformed.
I would not worry about that, plenty of kids go to traditional school and feel isolated. You would just need to be intentional about social time and extracurriculars can be really helpful with that.
My son was failing in his 2nd year of high school, so I took him out to homeschool him. It was one of the best decisions that I ever made. He went from barely attending school due to bullying, kids misbehaving in class, being bored, to becoming an engaged student who graduated with a 3.8 GPA and is now a Marine and in university. He went from failing to thriving. As for socialisation, he had friends in the neighbourhood and on XBox as well as his brother. We never did this, but homeschool co-opts offer meet-ups where kids can hang out and engage in local activities like museum visits.
Not a problem. Dance class, homeschool class (yes, we have in-class time with other homeschoolers), church youth group, local playground, neighborhood kids, etc.
What always surprise me is how easily they will criticize public education as a form of making obedient workers, how they are trying to make you "another brick in the wall", and that sort of thing that I've heard like a million times, and yet, how much they almost worship public education to the point of attacking you if you even suggest that maybe getting your kids there is not the best idea.
School was easy for me but I couldn't stand it. I wound up passing with little effort and playing a lot of sports. I always wanted to push the conversation but teachers were too tired for extra thought. They just want you to learn what they are told to teach and leave, sad. Even in college
Not sure it's even possible to "train people to be entrepreneurs." There's no linear playbook for starting a company. I am of the opinion that entrepreneurs are born rather than made.
Maybe you're right, but Jordan Peterson did an interview with someone on his own channel some months ago who has been developing and implementing a new type of school system directly geared towards encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and problem solving. Of course it is all probably financially out of reach for the average family, but... interesting to consider the outcomes on the kids' lives and careers who are able to go to those schools.
Even if it was created by fascists, it wouldn't matter. Liberal democracy is the system of governance that exists in America, not fascism. The fact that people like Jordan Peterson will blame fascism and communism for everything just illustrates how unserious they all are about addressing the real problems. The only priority of these influencers is protecting and preserving liberalism.
Actually I'm pretty sure he is correct here. Yes, Peterson often speaks out of turn on things not in his field, but yes the public ed system was designed first and foremost as a pipeline to factory jobs. Even now, it's often advertised as "college prep", not "life prep" which is in my view unfortunate. I'm a science teacher myself.
I’m a teacher and I’m tired of our profession being dragged through the mud from people who only read sensational news and have no idea truly what the institution of education is now. It’s almost a cliche trope at this point to bag on Public Schools. There are still many apolitical and noble, hard-working professionals in schools across the nation. JP really is not describing the modern education system in any honest light here, I am sorry. On a day to day level, this is just not accurate. He should know better. Or better yet, join the field and improve the system from within. Be the change yourself if you believe the institution is so bad. If you’ve been in a school anytime in the recent decade, you would know many teachers have abandoned straight rows of desks for constructivist teaching models and project-based learning. Most classrooms I see are more of in a collaborative “U-shaped” orientation or desk groups clustered by 4’s than anything.
@@andrewhaley9592 Except that standardized tests would fall strictly in JP’s argument of a purely rigid and fascist like sorting of children through meaningless performances. Modern education wishes to pull away from that infrastructure - not perpetuate it like JP believes. Many comprehensive scores are invalid based on the poor assessment design alone. Have you ever proctored or administered common core standardized exams? Have you been involved in decision making about what questions are asked on those tests? Even the math portions with the word problems are poorly chosen & written. Many of the questions don’t assess children with all funds of knowledge in mind nor are some of them even culturally competent. They’re the antithesis of creative thought and it’s modern education in 2024 that would like to pull away from that old model. Students are taught only to perform on tests and learn to think and retain knowledge in one way only. If you’ve worked in schools recently, you would be aware that many educators are resisting this.
Right Wing dark money plays into this, they want to privatize everything into their preferred charter schools. Peterson is just a talking head for those interests.
Yeah, been there; done that. During my graduate education as a teacher, we were told in no uncertain terms that only 1/2 of our job was to educate students. The other, more important half was to create model citizens. This meant indoctrination in the LGBT and DEI agenda. When one actually taught in schools, any deviation from this agenda would be met by a severe reprimand from the administration. I left when I refused to acknowledge the nonbinary nonsense (sorry, hon, you're not that special. There are only 2 sexes) and voiced my frustration that students with several learning/psychological disabilities as well as those who couldn't speak 5 words in English were pushed into standard classes, to the detriment of themselves and the average students. This absolutely is a broken system which will likely not be repaired in our lifetime. If one has the choice, then he absolutely should remove his child from this mess.
This is the first ad Jordan pushed on me on May 16 Jordan needs to address as part of a disciplinary probation order, a period of suspension may be imposed prior to the effective date of the probation. The Board's Disciplinary Guidelines provide details of the conditions under which a suspension may be made a part of the probation order. During suspension, licensees may not practice psychology or refer to themselves as psychologists. The Prussian school system is also the one which our school system is based on here in Poland. And it was designed by the same people thaf tried to eradicate Polish culture & Catholicism, through deportations, kulturkampf & forced germanization. They also are the ones that first introduced compulsory universal draft, compulsory public education, & compulsory state pension system to make people more dependent on the state rather than their families. As you can see, I am not big fan of the Prussians.
Lol. If the schools were fascist, teaching children to love their family, race, nation, God, etc... I would want to send my kids to public school. Stupid thumbnail.
So fascism is the only ideology that teaches that? Hmm surely you are a well rounded person thats very very smart. Well even if that was the case they really sucked at it. I mean where are they now besides larpers like you on the internet 😂
A sharp looking suit used to be a big point of pride in Jordan Peterson's image. Taking your kids out of Public school is _exactly_ what you'd expect to hear from someone looking like this character.
This is the 16th video pushed on me today. Jordan needs to address the fact he cannot practice psychology or be a psychologist until he fixes his license. As part of a disciplinary probation order, a period of suspension may be imposed prior to the effective date of the probation. Peterson a sloppy thinker? Seems to me thats obviously not true. Hes speaking about fascism in its actual definition. Not at all using that word loosely.
@@LaminarSound He’s a very sloppy thinker. The definition he utilized is descriptive - he never transitioned to make the attempt to pursue a search for a real essential definition. Without adequate competency in formal and material logic, one ends up with a figure cutout very similar to Dr. Peterson. The rhetorical effect appears to work well for the pseudo-right.
@@BonySopraneaux I’m not even close to a genius - I don’t have any writings or teachings. I would suggest reading the writings of anything from the Thomist philosophical school (classical realism). That’s all I do!
@@Reactionem given that fascism did not exist at the time, I see no reason to pursue a "real essential definition" of fascism in this context. It's pretty obvious what he meant, big business partnering with government. If you think JBP is a sloppy thinker, thats fine. It's your opinion. And it's my opinion that he's not sloppy at all, far from it. Even if I do disagree with him on plenty, I think he's a refreshingly ASTUTE thinker.
I don't disagree with the facts of the matter, but I don't fully agree with Dr. Peterson's analysis. Kids as a group can be quite unruly, and imagine a bunch of kids in a room that don't know each other and are probably mostly disagreeable. Man, a bell is a hell of a thing to help bring order to kids. Public education may have it's issues, but there is a reasonable application of it, if we really do care about the future of this country. We have to reject politics in education and bring back the thing that made us great which is raising a bunch of curious kids equipped to take on the world.
It's like he has no anchor in his life. He may speak a lot about something meaningful, but he isn't able to make meaning his center. Like an eternal bystander around a club not able to find the door to enter it.
