kudos to you for making a channel of this! I recently tore down a pair of these same replicas to restore my old original v700 pair that I've owned since 2002. Now you've got me thinking about 3d printing lasers and accessories! So cool!

Love the video. Had no idea there were fakes of these. I have a an old pair I bought off eBay. Were mint when I got them but naturally the hinges are starting to crack. Any tips on beefing up the hinges?

Hey I have a question, what kind of difference will the angled pads make vs the regular pads (aka the flat pads)? Also, how will thicker pads change the frequency response?

That is difficult to answer but in general thicker angled pad will increase the sound stage a bit. The material they are made from, the filling and dimensions all affect the sound so you can get thicker pads that will increase the bass and some that will reduce it... you either need to have a listen or check reviews online

@@CustomCans Thank you! I think I have to try it out myself and decide if I like it. Edit: the pads are made of memory foam, have perforated leather (from Dekoni), has 58mm inner diameter and it is angled from 23mm to around 13 mm.

Here is my take to the question: Thicker PU pads may produce a boomier bass sound but tend to make the upper mids and treble shrill. Thicker fabric pads will make the bass thin and the trebles bright. Angled PU pads can help to seal the lower part behind your ears, and if they do for you, the bass will be more voluminous. Tried this out with 2 different headphones. PS: If your original pads are not perforated, my guess is these perforated Dakonis may make the bass thinner.

@@krollpeter Thanks for the added info! I am using the Dekoni pads on my DT 1990 Pro. I am not just buying an after market pads to change the sound, but also for the comfort. Since the pads are angled and it has memory foam, the seal will be much better than the stock pads. I am currently using the B pads and I don't mind losing a bit of the bass. I like the airiness sound, but as long as it's not overdone. I expect that the bass will be a bit cleaner, perhaps a bit more detail?

@@glorfindel4945 I usually buy cheaper pads from China, for similar budget I can buy 4 different styles. Then I keep the best. From my experience, the stock pads are usually the best or near the best. However, I do not much experience with open back headphones. Sorry. The Mikoni angled higher pad that I own makes the sound imbalanced. But that's for a closed back headphones.

Hey, I've been watching your videos while taking apart my headphones. I have a pair of 3M Worktunes. Nothing special really, but they're also my ear defenders so they're important and I value them a lot but they practically doubled in price since I bought them so it's not an option to replace them. The earpads have split, one of the drivers sounds a little rattly and the battery isn't what it used to be. I can find everything I need. I'm a little bit anxious about generic batteries from China spontaneously combusting but besides that. I open them expecting to see 32ohm drivers, but they're 64. What difference would it make putting 32ohm drivers in there? 32ohm are much easier to get and are also a quarter the price. Thanks.

You should be fine fitting 32 ohm ones they may just be a bit louder as they are easier to drive

@@CustomCans That sounds almost like an upgrade. Awesome. RU-vid suggested the video where you put a pair of DT770 drivers in a some 3M ear defenders. Interesting video that.
