Comet NEOWISE is the most exciting comet in the northern hemisphere since Hale-Bopp in 1997.
I sit down with Alyn Wallace to discuss photograph tips for this comet, and the emotions this astronomical event draws out.
NOW is the time to look for Comet NEOWISE in the early morning sky - soon to be DUSK!

I live in India.. here the rainy season is in action, and for that the sky remains always cloudy!! I am a student but I just love to explore space!! I have no proper equipments to see or shoot stars, nebula, or any galaxy!! everytime I see in to sky it just excites me !! but having no proper tools everytime I got disapointed... I have only a DSLR and a cheap tripod and nothing else!! so I really cant set an exposer more than 20 sec, otherwise it starts to trail !! Though I do watch your video from very past!! it really encourages me !! but unfortunately NEOWISE will be missed for the bad weather!! EVERYTIME THIS AMAZING THING HAPPENES BUT ESCAPES AGAIN WITH A DISAPPOINTMENT ..............Take Care

Hey andrew when astronomers down under are trying to describe where a planet is. or where a comet is. or where the small magellanic cloud is. do they ever use magic words like. north of the sky. south of the sky halfway up. Or do they think they re helping you by telling you that it lies 2 degrees from beta cephei. Like i would help them find caen france by telling them it s near that cliff overlooking the atlantic

I go to college in an amazing place. We have a clear view of the horizon and a beautiful night sky. I am at home right now because of the pandemic. I live in a big city and you can probably imagine what the sky is like. Sirius looks like a dim little speck from here. It's frickin depressing. And somehow, right when I had to come back here, everything special decided to happen all at once. I missed the annular eclipse because of clouds (just like I've missed every other eclipse in the past 5 years). And now I'm just going to have to sit here as the comet does it's thing and returns back to the outer solar system... I hate this crap so much I wanna cry. Ik I'm ranting and nobody cares. But I don't give a damn, I just can't keep it in anymore. This is so damn broken.

I remember Hale-Bopp very well because I saw it while driving to Los Angeles and since I was in a dark area of the Central Valley of California, the comet was big and beautiful. I think most people who see a comet for the first time have no idea how fast it is going and likely think it is crawling along since you can't detect it moving due to the vastness of space and distance. It would have been nice to mention it's speed and also how long the visible tail is. Thanks for posting this and yes, comets can be thought provoking and make the cosmos come alive.

I got into astronomy in 1993 at the age of ten. My first comet was Hyakutake in 96. My second comet was Hale-Bopp in 97. I got REALLY spoiled for comets early on. Just a few weeks ago I was bitching to my mom about how bad this long drought of great comets has been. I may have lost count of how many comets I've seen at this point, but nothing has even approached that "great comet" territory in the northern hemisphere since 97. NEOWISE is truly spectacular, definitely what I would consider a great comet, and by far the best I've seen since Hale-Bopp and DAMN it did my soul good. I doubt I'll ever see a comet like Hyakutake ever again (it put Hale-Bopp to shame but was only visible for a few days) but that was probably a once in a lifetime thing.

Right now (12th July) we could see it in the evening sky from English Bay in Vancouver! So, everybody that is there and is lucky enough to get clear skies: Around 10pm to 10.30pm, take a look to the northwest. It's almost circumpolar now so, you almost see it the whole night. Still bright enough to see it with the naked eye. But with a camera: Hell, what an amazing view!

Went to see this comet with a couple friends and Since it was 3 am we decided on a spot that unfortunately had little to no visibility towards the sunrise. So we decided to race across to the other side of the mountain. We got to a spot sat down for a while watched the sun rise and then it was day time. We decided to pack up to start leaving until I looked up to a bright dot. Was visible for a bit then went away. Very interesting experience. Today we plan to go to the highest mountain in the area and watch the sunset from there in hope to see it again.
