A couple of videos from now I am going to do a cost comparison between On Grid and Off Grid housing/living expenses using my numbers from both scenarios.. (I am past the break even point) .. It is a little more difficult than that.. I take good seeds,, put them in a wet paper towel until they germinate and then plant them in potting soil.. The problem is very few crack open (germinate),, fewer still start to grow a "tail".. The few that do pop a tail never grow more than 2" or 3 ".. I am putting the seeds in a good potting soil.. and again,, this is with "weed.. They call it that because it grows like a weed.. I need it to help alleviate back pain as I can't do the oxy pills,, but I can't afford to buy it at the local "store".. Are they not beautiful where you are.? When I lived in Washington state I never saw a sunrise or sunset,,, just Waaaaaaayy tooooo many trees.. (and I lived 1/4 mile from the ocean.).. ..Happy Trails.!!

Only advantage to an RV is everything is right there,, (furniture, plumbing, electric, etc) done already and when you get tired of the weather, the neighbors or the scenery you just get "on the road again".. I lived that life and was faced with the decision of staying in the RV and saving all the money I would spend on getting a cabin done enough to try to insulate the RV and put in better heaters.. Obvious which way I went.. ..Everything else being the same,, amount of electric I needed,, amount of water used,, and the amount of propane used,, the only thing dramatically increased is the propane.. 100+ gallons vs 30.. (100 in the swiss cheese rv and 30 in the cabin.) If you actually like it cooler,, than an RV would be perfect,, but not for me.. I try to keep it above 80 in the cabin,, no problem.. ie: Today when I got up I was just as comfortable inside as I would have been in the RV,, with the heater (or 2) running in the RV.. I lived in the RV for 2 years here and did videos the entire time.. some even with costs associated.. I am putting together a video of the projected costs of staying in town vs the costs of setting up out here.. A hypothetical from April 2018 to April 2022 in town paying what I was,, to live there,, and then a true cost breakdown of what I spent to live here for those same 4 years.. should be eye opening for some..

Yup,, winter is about to whup you upside the head,, finish the preps.. They are saying it may only get to 70 degrees next week so yeah,, winter is coming fast.. I have proven time and time and time and time again,, I can't even grow weed.. I used to know a woman that if you gave her a cell phone,, it would die almost immediately.. I have the same problem with plants.. I can kill them almost immediately.. I have a "black thumb".. There are only 2 plants I can grow,, Chinese evergreen and Prickly pear.. I was thinking of facing it east,, but I know for a fact I will be awake for every sunset.. Sunrise,, ehh,, not so much.. Besides the view is much better to the west.. (I had the RV facing both directions,, twice.).. This way I can watch the sunrise as it races down the mts towards me.. . .Less than 1/4 of my solar panels are facing south.. jus sayin.. .The farther north you go the farther south your panels need to face,, but here I get much more usable energy on the east and west facing panels.. My back started acting up about a week before the move was scheduled.. It is a new area and a new pain,, but I know it is because of the nerve damage.. a few years ago I did a video about moving the RV from Summerhaven to Winterhaven.. They are 2 legitimate places here in Tucson.. Summerhaven is up on top of Mt Lemmon,, less than an hour from downtown,, Winterhaven is in what is now almost downtown.. Well,, when I moved the RV it was about 50 feet,, to get it out into the sunshine for winter.. aka Winterhaven west.. Well,, yes, and yes.. I have 2 phone numbers.. One goes directly to voice mail and is the number I put in all my vids.. I enjoy doing the sunsets,, but it takes about 5 hours work to get less than 1 minute of footage (2 hours of recording, 3 editing) so if no one cared,, ya know.. @@deserthorizons can you set your camera on the sunset, walk away & come back after sunset? Save time doing other things while it's recording.

@@artemisiagentileschi2400 My camera only records in 45 min increments then it shuts off.. So I set a timer.. It still takes those 2 hours plus to record,, then about 3 hours editing.. Most of the editing time is for 'fast forwarding' the vid,, so I don't sit there while the computer does its thing.. i have to do it at least twice as the most I can FF is 16X.. so I do one pass at 16X then I redo that one at 8 or 16X to get it fast enough.. it depends on which mts you are talking about,, but the closest mts are about 2 miles away,, straight.. the farthest i guess are about 50.. I have hills on my property that I suppose I could dig out a little,, but that would be on the slopes of the wash,, so it would/could be worse.. I was starting to get worried about you.. Hadn't heard from you,, asked GBear,, he hadn't either,, so,, yeah.. Glad you are still kicking.. Last time I put fuel in (2 weeks ago) it was less than 3.50.. dunno now.. When I first moved to Phoenix in 1981 gas cost me just over 1/2 hour of work per gallon at minimum wage.. To equal that today here with minimum wage at 12 bucks,, it "should" cost about $6.35 a gallon.. Guess what,, IT WILL soon enough.. ..If the "discussion" reference was to me, I apologize.. I only answered questions about my opinion.. (which, in case you hadn't noticed,, there are several topics I don't like to give public opinion,, ,,unless asked..). .. .Greatest thing about RU-vid is,, the videos you missed,, are still there.. Thanks for sharing.. Yeah,, destroyed plans of finances really make you reevaluate.. I had the same problem a couple of times.. Fortunately I was a truck driver and I could see the economy tanking before everyone realized,, so I sold the company.. (at a small loss).. This was in '08 and then I did the math on what it would take to keep going.. Taxes,, food,, and housing are 3 things we can't do without regardless of price.. And seeing people kicked out on the street because they didn't get enough on Soc Sec to even cover property taxes,, I reevaluated and started planning to move off grid.. Yes, done Quartzsite, Lake Havasu, Flag, Mongolian Rim as go to's. AZ has so much to offer for all seasons for comfort location wise. I guess one thing I realized is the only immediate need for shelter & comfort is the space myself and pooches occupy at that immediate moment, thinking about back in home ownership days & training wives (graduated two) all that space paying to heat/cool/maintain never even used, because that is what they drilled into us during our formative years.

Puerto Rico by the countryside, Moca.

I have done several videos showing my food pantry,, how I cook,, and what I eat,, but they are not easy to find.. I am waaaaay rural,, but not as far out as some can be.. I usually go into town for fruits and veggies about every 6 to 8 weeks.. The 3 main things I get are bananas, onions and tomatoes.. Bananas will last at least 10 days.. onions will last about 2 months,, and tomatoes will last at least 2 to 3 weeks.. One thing to keep in mind is,, I can't cook.. I was a baker for over 40 years using precise measurements of ingredients.. Cooking makes no sense to me.. So almost everything I eat comes out of a can.. I eat Pizza 2 nights a week and a can of chili every Friday,, so that only leaves 4 nights I to come up with something different.. I have a good selection of soups,, stews,, raviolis,, hash,, tuna,, chicken, etc.. YES, I do have a 11.6 cubic foot refrigerator,, an electric one that runs on solar.. So I keep frozen hamburger and chicken patties in it.. 2 days I eat eggs for breakfast,, 2 days cold cereal,, and 3 days of oatmeal.. I use chocolate YooHoos for my cereal as it lasts for months and months.. Most of my food I get from WalMart and they deliver it here for free.. Wherever FedEx and UPS go,, they go.. Start writing down what you eat for a month,, that way it is much easier to figure out what you need.. When I did that I realized that it would not be all that difficult to have enough food to keep me happy.. Originally when I moved out here I had only a very small refrigerator/freezer and as such there was not enough room for loaves of bread and my biggest concern was how I could get my bread to last long enough.. Now having a big freezer really helps.. btw, I have no oven here to bake my own.. Hopefully this helps alleviate some concerns you may have.. Feel free to ask for clarification if needed.. lets see, the entire list of what I can't get to even germinate or grow beyond 3" is : Lilac Diesel Gelato Big Bud Zkittlez Alaskan Thunder Moby Dick AK-47 Ripple Mt Pie Girl Scout Cheese.. I was able to actually get one (out of 4) of these to grow,, blossom,, & flower.. I am enjoying it as I type.. Plus a couple others I couldn't get to grow that I don't remember.. @@underdog8896 I have been trying for over 2 months to get one to germ.. 1 a week.. any ideas.? I use rain water,, dark containers,, wet paper towels.. Only a few crack,, a few of those just start to push out their tail,, even fewer of those grow beyond an 1/8" .. .. 1 actually started to grow longer so I planted it,, a few days later it popped to the surface and grew about 3" and totally stopped.. That was over 2 weeks ago,, it is still alive,, just not growing.. I planted it in miracle gro potting soil in a jiffy pot..

@@deserthorizons sounds like you're doing the right things. Planted in mir. gro and stopped at about same height. Then 2 weeks later boom they took off.

if i weren't living here,, i would be homeless.. stopped working (back injury) Sept 2016,, was not able to collect SocSec until March 2020 and I would have run out of money early 2019.. @@deserthorizons i had to stop working in 2016 because of my crohns disease i had to live off my 401 k for three years to see is i would get my disability and i did but used up most of my money if not i was going to have to sale my home and move to my property in the sticks and live like you are doing. this is not by choice it is the reality of it no one was going to give me a job and i could not work a job. i was ready to do what i had to do and was ok with it. i will in time have to move because they are going to tax me out of my home.

@@georgeshotrodbarn2113 That was part of the equation,, property taxes.. Along with either mortgage or rent and my soc sec of barely 1K a month, before too long I would not have enough left to get anything to eat.. I currently take no medications but I can see a time in the not too distant future where I would not be able to afford that,, let alone everything else.. Payments on the house I sold to move out here were less than 500 a month.. Utilities ate up another 150.. That leaves only 350+ for everything else.. Not gonna happen,, especially with the cost of everything shooting up.. When electric prices come down I might have been able to afford it but Tucson Electric Power just asked for another raise.. I eat as cheaply as possible and still it is around 200 a month.. So the last thing I needed was higher property taxes.. Unless they come down too.. lol.. I have heard of retirees being evicted from their homes because of not being able to afford the property taxes.. Then what.? Here now I pay about 4 bucks a month but I have lived in homes where it was 250 a month just for property taxes.. That was 12 years ago.. I wonder how much they have come down since then.?

@@deserthorizons At this time i am taking seven thousand dollars in meds a month for witch i pay four hundred but before i had Medicare my part was twenty five hundred a month that i payed for eighteen months before i was on cobra for eighteen months and i payed six hundred a month for the cobra and four hundred a month for the meds. plus i had to pay all the bills for three years and it wiped me out.
