@@deserthorizons Robert, I bought a one acre horse property with a 26x68 modular home, 2 car garage, a small chicken coop, and a couple of run-in cattle and horse sheds. The place needed everything. It was one of those places that border on being a tear down. So after a heck of a lot of work on my part, and help from family members, contractors, and a local farmer, the place is now in tip top shape and we spend all our weekends and most holidays there. It is on the outskirts of a small Utah farming/ranching town, we border BLM land on one side. The desert I am in is juniper, pinion pines, and sagebrush, anotherwords the Great Basin desert of Utah. I want to move there full time when my wife retires in 4 years, with our 4 horses and two dogs. Is it my final homestead? After all that work, and at the age of 73 I hope so, but you never know . . . I just got an i-phone, and can send you a few pics back channel if you want.

I deal with it by Knowing the "bad actors" are there before they even get close.. starting almost 1/2 mile away I have cameras , some still and some vid and some streaming, I have 2 dogs named Ruger and Remington that do not like other critters (2 or 4 legged) on or close to Their property,, I also keep several Smith & Wesson's in the cabin and RV.. I have 2 caches buried out on/by the property with water, jacket, pants, and guns plus some edibles .. (1 has my EMP protected stuff like a small laptop,, phone,, batteries,, flashlights,, and solar charger ).. Where I am is kinda isolated from traffic and quite a ways from pavement so there is not much reason to be coming around here and as such very few 'visitors'.. .. IF I did have trees than the "bad actors" could use them for cover to get too close.. It is nice having an almost unobstructed view.. I've had time to "sight in" several landmarks for distance with my rifle.. The dogs can hear anyone coming close to a mile away and I can hear over half a mile if a vehicle is coming.. Can't do that with trees.. Ohhh , and trees burn in massive forest fires.. ..The main reason I chose "here" was for the sun.. In August I had to turn on my space heater,, the last couple of mornings I used the furnace,, so as you can see I hate the cold.. I used to live in Washington state where I described it as living in a green tunnel with a gray roof.. Green tunnel because of all the trees and the gray because of the sky,, and I lived on the coast.. I lived in Minnesota and Colorado but I like the "expansiveness" of the view here much more.. Good your ok wondered how your life is there the solar pannels i havent seen before you had them on the roof before funny i have that problem with my stomach in the mornings i put mine for im diabetic i drink tap water im just glad you still kicking haha life in the desert is good for you there post some more can you ill wattch anything you post its intersting to me thanks for letting us know ok !!!wow that storm was pretty bad to do that to the other shelter can you get some one to fix it for you then you can catch the water from the rain
Hey Howdy.!! yeah, doing great here, supposed to have gotten rain this weekend, but nope.. but now it is going to turn cold with highs only about 90.. which is fine but that means the nights will get down to 60.. Isn't that freezing temp.? I had to run my space heater during August so it is time to turn the gas back on and get the heaters ready. ok, i am going to call you out,, because if you "wattch anything you post" then you should have seen my last vid from May of 2023 right after I installed the panels and hooked it all up.. It is possible youtube did not show it to you, as they kinda dropped me.. then they said they were going to demonetize me, so I don't have any incentive to do more.. but I still have the original 12V panels on the roof which I still use to run a few things,, but almost everything is run off the 48V system now.. ..Instead of water, drink something else in the morning from a can.. see if you still have the problem.. I know of a way to "redo" the awning without having to dismantle, just not by myself.. we'll see.. otherwise maybe move the tank closer to the cabin and plumb it in somehow to the rain gutter.. Thanks for the update, only a year since your last lol. I figured you went 'dark' like so many tubers have lately. Do everyone and thing a favor and pull-down that awning before it hurts, or kills someone. Regarding the Berkey filters, they are designed to allow minerals to pass through the filter, thus your high particulate count. Many other filter element brands around that will capture those minerals, metals and flourides.
close, but no cigar,, the Berkey is a water Purifier not a 'filter'.. it is supposed to make the water safe to drink and take out everything,, NOT add to it.. Whether it is supposed to allow minerals "through",, it should not add over 10% particulates,, remember, I checked from the faucet before I checked through the Berkey.... I was betting my life on it.. All this time the problem has been bad water and Berkey didn't fix it.. ..I did go dark because of RU-vids policies.. The last one was to demonetize me because I took a break from doing a vid,, so that took any incentive away to do another one.. I am going to take the awning down as soon as there is no wind in the forecast.. like at the beginning of this vid,, it is now.. Thanks for watching.. ..Happy Trails.!!
@@deserthorizons I don't know how a Berkey filter could "add" anything to the water, but maybe there's a reason they stopped production of their old elements.
@@ChooseFreedom-o1e well the water went in around 240 ppm and came out of the berkey with over 270 ppm.. I have never heard of their "old" elements,, but I got this setup after the uproar about leaking filters back in '15.. I can attest to the fact that my filters never leaked because there was always several cups of water in the bottom of the top container..
Former RU-vidr Richie from Boston said once you can reuse the filters by blowing them out with compressed air. Maybe yours was just plugged up for some reason, they also have to be "primed"? Did you do that? Also, about the awning, maybe you could just replace the metal on the awning with shade cloth or netting? @@deserthorizons
@@foxmulder7616 possible they were plugged but when I put in brand new ones and saw NO improvement.. ..and Yes, I primed them with their kit.. ..I am still debating on what to do with the awning but every time I even think about it a gust of wind reminds why not yet..

Good update , nice to see the family too!😊 I don't know if it would work in your neck of the woods or on pack rats but I buy a small bottle of peppermint essential oil and put about 20 drops in a pint of water in a spray bottle and spray it all over my vehicle engine or what have you and I have had zero squirrels rats or mice nesting and crapping in my engines for years! Loads of RU-vid vids on this concoction. Thanks .... 😊👍
Hey, how's it going.? been there done that with peppermint spray.. If I don't spray it every couple of days I see evidence of their visit.. When I sprayed it under the motorhome a few year ago to piss them off,, they could not have cared less.. and I made it strong and sprayed for days.. so good to hear from you. i was jealous of your having a/c . this is another summer in phoenix with just swamp cooling and some days it gets to be ruff. but my electric bills are almost nothing compared to my neighbors 300 or 400 dollars a month. that gila monster looked like it needed more orange coloring. you got the wind instead of me this year. usually my r.v. gate gets blown off the hinges into the alley twice a summer. no pack rats but the sewer rats were god awful this summer. every other day you wake up and smell one in the trap. finally the city came out and cleaned the sewers. did the county tax man stop by to see if you had any improvements so they can jack up your yearly real estate tax? they gonna need some more money to build a school so your neighbors kids can go to it.
Yeah, but fortunately it has been a cool summer in Phoenix, right.? The car that I drove for my first 5 years of living in Phoenix had black vinyl interior and NO air conditioning.. Now that you mention it,, it has been almost 7 years since I paid an electric bill.. or a rent or mortgage payment.. and no, no tax man visits yet.. but 3 Points already has the schools it will need until the freeway gets put in.. Then this will look just like Alma School and Southern, or Broadway and McClintock, or Camelback and 43rd Ave.. (amongst the many places I lived there) and then I won't be able to afford even just the yearly property taxes here.. We carefully purchase reverse osmosis water at .25/gal, but use local community low pressure stored water for cleaning and washing. The taste is poor but it tests safe. 👍
They "shout" right back at ya'.. figured it was time to show I was still alive.. .. I tried Culligan bottled water for about 3 weeks and it did not help enough for me to notice.. So I hesitated for about 6 months in getting the SimPure.. (since I have been using it I have had a hell of a time getting a 'great' cup of coffee.). it just doesn't help the flavor.. I'm sorry to hear of your gastrointestinal issues. May I recommend getting your blood workl done. Get and idea where acid base balance is at. Your issue (without knowing your medical history or diet) sounds as if your in the alkalinic side of the acid-base balance, this due to the fact you tried drinking a can of soda (which type?). The acid in the coke made you feel better, I think. Perhaps you should ttry apple cider vinegar (with the mother) daily (diluted with water) to see if this helps at all. Also, take probiotics with multi-billion cultures per capsule. A carnivore diet sounds in order as well. I'm not a physician. Anyway, I'm sure you've received lots of treatment advice, so you can delete mine if you wish. I hope you feel better. I'm not sure if I heard if your reverse osmosis water treatment was actually helping you. I did get your numbers as to your water testing.
Blood work has been done,, a scope as far down as they could go,, another one up,, had ultrasound,, did a SEBO test where I drank some nasty stuff and had to breathe into an apparatus every 15 minutes for hours,, and a few other things.. There is something in Tucson water that does not agree with me.. I have no problem with Phoenix water.. It is very alkali here with lots of calcium in it.. The Coke I had did not make me feel "better",, it just did not make me feel "bad".. Tried probiotics,, no long term help.. After about 2 months I can tell when it is time to change the filters because the issue starts coming back.. I appreciate your advice but I do believe I have it licked now.. Yeah, if your over producing bile, it's so alkaline it can burn your stomach, and acid would neutralize it. My mother had the same problem for a while I think.
@@deserthorizonshave you tried drinking bottled water? I use berkey water for cooking, mostly, I drink bottled spring water, though you do have to careful with that too. Depending on how much water you drink, you can get glass bottled spring water for a little more.
@@foxmulder7616 big problem with bottled water is they won't deliver it at a decent price.. and I am trying to get it set up to only have to go into a store or town every 6 months.. (other than Dr's.).. I buy quite a few gallons of bottled water but my Jeep is only so big and I need room for other supplies.. The machine should last 5 years so that comes out to 50 bucks a year plus 200 a year on filters.. btw, the cheapest gallon bottled I can find now is 1.59.. So it effectively cuts my cost in half.. (365 x 1.59 = 580.) Just as a side note,, when I was using the Zero filter with the Berkey,, the zero filters would last about 3 weeks using the PPM meter.. Now that I run it through the SimPure I have been using the same one for well over 6 months now and still shows "0" on the PPM meter.. I have had 2 colonoscopy's and both times the total clearing out of my gut did not help.. at most I would get 1 day of relief and then boom, another punch in the gut.. but because I had tried "purifying" my water through a Berkey I knew that water could not be the problem... wrong.. @@deserthorizons ahh yeah, that's true, it is wayyy more expensive.. And heavy! Lol simpur huh? I'm gonna have to look into those. Cause we use a Berkey and my mom was having issues for a while.. I think they stopped making them even didn't they? Have you tried water fasting? It can heal really old, like decades and decades injuries.. of course you'd have to have a weeks worth of really good clean, trustworthy water... Sad we can't even trust the water we have to drink anymore, even when we filter it! How did you have your water tested? I might be interested to see what ours is like. Does it test for aluminum? Cause the aluminum is off the charts because of all the "contrails" I know we have a problem with chromium and arsenic up here in the PHX area.

Just know that I am still doing exactly what I was on most of my videos, loving the desert, loving living out here, and loving the company my puppies bring.. It just does not make financial sense to continue doing videos.. If I make more than 30 bucks a month (which is about average income for my channel), I have to pay for my medical out of pocket.. So, in essence,, the U.S. Gub'ment is paying me over 175 a month to NOT make videos even though I would need to get a 7 dollar a month raise to be in the Poverty level.. That is why I put this place together was I knew I would not be able to afford living "in-town" paying rent or a mortgage.. @@CherG-222 the county you ultimately settle in will have considerable impact on the choices and sizes for a tiny house.. and then if you want the desert it can still be a little cooler,, or hotter than where I am depending on where.. also the size of property you can get is determined by where.. (Unless you got lots of $$$$).. I understand the "determination" part of it,, that is why I am here now.. You CAN do it,, it IS possible.. Good luck.. @@deserthorizons Hi Robert , no we can't see the fireworks from here on mid Vancouver Island but once or twice a year when the conditions are right we can see the top half of Mt. Baker which is about 120 miles from me. Gotta keep the puppies in during fireworks or you may never see them again! ........anyway , happy 4th of July 😎
I have thought about getting one for them,, but then I remember how much Ruger absolutely hates getting wet,, and then I think how long it would be before algae and dust accumulate in it,, (maybe 3 days) and decide it is not worth the water.. it comes down to money.. If I make 30 bucks a month or more on videos I have to pay 175 bucks a month for health insurance.. (Our gub'ment doing what is best for the people.). I agree 100%.. It is very beautiful here but most people do not see it.. The desert has a beauty all it's own and I am thankful more people do not understand it because it would look just like downtown Chicago or L.A. if they did.. I am very blessed to have this little sanctuary for the time I have, and looking forward to a few more years of solitude and beauty, and contentment.. Does pima require septic? I don't see that in your breakdown? I was looking in Mohave county, but they require a septic, which is 8,000$ to stay on your land any longer than two weeks, camping.. and that's the main thing holding me back from buying some land. The cost of that. You can use composting, but they still require a system for greywater.. smh.
After I was reported to the AZ Dept of Environmental Quality,, they came out and talked to me.. I drain my gray water onto a tree basin and I "bag-n-burn" my 'black' water.. I drain my sink into a bucket and pour that on trees also.. They said that was perfectly acceptable as long as there is not any "standing water" of waste, no problem.. You can put in your own septic as long as you do it according to code.. Much cheaper..
@@deserthorizons oh wow, that is awesome! That That's how it should be, water is our most valuable resource in the desert here, you shouldn't have to throw it away into a septic tank. Use it on your trees, or garden etc. and you burn the compost from the toilet huh? What do you think about incinerating toilets? Do you prefer composting?

Howdy A M.. How are you doing.? How are your off grid aspirations coming along.? Doing FANTASTIC here.. place is kinda running on cruise with little input from me.. I have 2 AC window units but only ran one today.. (it only got to 106) and the puppies spent most of the day inside with me.. I am just so thankful that I am living here as I would not be able to afford 'a n y t h i n g' in town.. (thanks brandon).. Fortunately I have no desire to live in town.. Plan is to hang out here until "town" gets out here.. (or the freeway).. fwiw, I am constantly thinking of new videos but if I make any money at all I will lose my free health insurance.. I have had to pay 175 for each of the last 2 months (plus at least for next month and the month after) because I made 30 bucks a month for the first 4 months this year.. ahhhh medicare ,, gotta love it.. @@deserthorizonsGlad to know you're doing well out there, and that the babies are staying cool 😎 pretty funny you saying "Only" 106' degrees, which I'm sure is nothing compared to it's true potential. 😆 As for my off grid aspirations, yes I'm still working toward stacking the funds to buy the land, and the shed... But, my first move will be to purchase a cargo van, and trailer, hence I need to focus on getting ready to have a mobile station while I work on everything once I acquire the land... These government agencies try to trap us between a rock, and a hard place with needed health insurance, and it's my opinion that everyone should be able to obtain healthcare, regardless of you finances (Or, ever the lack of)... Such a Evil government we are under... And the cities are definitely getting worse... Everytime I go downtown, there are so many people just screaming at the top of their lungs, shouting at thin air! It's getting bad Robert, and I'm sure that isn't reserved to just Kansas City so, I'm glad to know you're great and I'm glad to have learned from ya... If making videos will hinder you, I understand and will still reach out from time to time... Salutes brother😊
