I own a 63 4x4 f250 with the “wrong” bed. Been in the family since my late grandpa bought it new. Awesome piece of history that you don’t see too many of. Cool video man 👍🏻

My dad had one that year 223 inline 4 with a granny ,didn't need 4wd with granny long bed step side . Had a unibody with a built 292 he actually put together in the kitchen. This video brings back so many memories.

Hello, My 2nd truck was a 1965 Ford f100 custom with a straight 6. I paid $75.00 for back in 1982. In both door pockets had a plastic tub you could pull out and had a vinal cover with a zipper, basically you had a small ice chest in both doors. It also had toolbox on the passengers side in front of the wheel and the front of the bed, maybe a 12"D x18"L x5"H. All I had to do was fix 1 brake line. I drove that truck for about a year.

I'm a sucker for old 60's to 70's Ford trucks. Can't wait to see where this one goes. Also 16:56 most satisfying classic truck sound next to the exhaust

I believe you have a 1964 there with a 1961 grille. The hood is from a '63 or '64. The inside steps have trim that wasn't offered until 1964. The bed is certainly not '61. The bed is from a '64-'66. In '61 the trucks were either "uni-bed" or "flareside". The bed's wheel wells have been cut to allow for the larger wheels/tires. In 1965, they stopped the interior step. Yep, it's a 1964. Edit: Can you find the VIN on the frame? It's on top of the frame, passenger side just behind the front wheel. I just subbed. I have a '62 and I look forward to seeing the build. Thanks for posting.

My Grandfather owned a 61 Unibody F-100 that had F-250 capacity upgrades (springs/gears/brakes) but kept the inline 6. He sold it to my father, who in turn, sold it to me in my last year of HS. yeah. I was a tough girl. I loved that truck and kept it for almost 20 years. Wish I still had it. and the money to do all the fun things I wanted to do with it. I loved the unibody because I loved the swept arch of the wheel wells matching. Silly huh! I know a little bit about them, email me to discuss unless you are all done. PS: with some weight in the back, and the 1st gear granny low, I pulled a barn down with it once. that was epic.

Growing up my neighbor had a '61 Ford short wheel base step side, sky blue 3 on the tree and I believe it had a 292 v8 lots of fun to drive!!! Have a great time with that truck looks cool thanks for sharing and as always "Howdy from Texas 😃"!!

Hey Craig, sweet truck! One thing that you may not know about the lightning emblem on the hood, the lightning emblem indicates that hood at least came off of a 6 cyl truck. V8 trucks came with an emblem that said v8 in the center of it. Also the little steps inside of the door indicate it's a 61-63 cab, later models went to the newer style cab that looked more like your 71 cab. Cheers. I wish my 63 f100 shortbed was a 4x4. Alas just a 2wd, 4:1 rear gears and 4 on the floor with non synchrmesh trans. Can't wait to see more of this truck.

with these Ford truck boxes,the syncro-cones which align the 2nd-3rd gear-shift are either non-existent,or very worn.back in the day,all big boxes were mostly non-syncro,and so the driver used a technique called double de-clutching when shifting up and down thru the gears.this is when you are accelerating up to speed in 2nd gear and to move into 3rd you clutch in,move the shift into neutral going towards the gear you want,clutch out and allow the gears to engage neutral (fully left 2nd )clutch in and bring the engine revs up to speed so the motor matches the 3rd gear shaft speed and engages smoothly then clutch out to drive.this takes lots of practise,but once mastered,you can basically drive most older boxes.the design of the box is very archaic,things take time so you can never force the gear selector thru,after a while you can quietly snick thru neatly.good luck,oh,and another thing,those old boxes like good clutches.

I have some original 61 hood arrows if you decide youwant to change them, thats a 6cyl hood emblem also as the V8 have V8 not the sprocket and lightning bolt. Cool ass oldie, cant wait to see the build vids, i have a 65 with CV front and ‘18 mustang rear im working on

I had a pretty cherry 65 F250 parts truck I just sold to make room. Had a perfect uncut bed... the one on that truck bothers me because they cut it and it looks unfinished without a flange or something else welded in on the edge. You could almost use a pair of front fender wheel well edges to fix it and still have tire clearance.

Cool truck - My 66 slick (300-6) had the same hood emblem as well.

Pretty sure wrong beds refer to the ones that came with the 57-60 beds or the more square beds, someone put this bed on probably because it follows the lines better than the square beds. Happy you got a 61, I have a 61 SWB Uni.

I had a 1976 Hi-boy F-250 with a 390 bored to a 401 off road cam TRW pistons HOLLY 850 double pumper that truck had so much torque it pull the frame from under a Chevy or dodge. Remember this has been a few years ago also had a build C-6 automatic. I wish I had kept it tha file mileage sucked about 8 MPG setting in the yard I go worse when you started it. cool truck but the 61's had front bumpers with 3 bolts on each side so it may have a different yr frame you can search 1961 ford f250 and check out the front bumper bolts

F250 4X4's actually had 59 style beds on them. Somebody swapped beds for a 2 wheel drive bed. Todd the retired trucker.

Right on , I’d thought about getting that bed on my 62 replacing stepside , but , naaaa , does match good though. But the fender badge matches the bed wich is 65 “I beam” and a I6 hood badge wich is probly original although could’ve been a Y block but “has” a fe big block of some kind GREAT TWUCK MON!

Dana 44 sealed knuckle front drum breaks the gearing was typical 410 on most if it was a 6 banger 456 . Dana 24 remote case 2 to one 4 low Dana 60 coarse spline rear 360 block 2 barrel NP 435 transmission 11 inch clutch . Drive shafts run 1310 you jounts with cross breads on the rear and front shafts being there wider on the yoke side compared to the shaft .2 1/2 diameter 60 thousands wall pipe . The real bummer is the front is obsoleted . The inner shafts are not findable . The short side is prone to breaking it's a small 1310 u joint . Unfortunately aftermarket dosent offer any thing for them . The drum brakes in the front are no good . Steering box is not good either . You will end up swapping front and rear and steering box and having all new drive shafts. With something from the late 80s for running gear . Eye have been thru this with these the transfer case and engine transmission are good and strong the frame is strong. The springs get replaced to somthing stronger with the hard ware . You got a project . Good luck.

I guess if i were to build it i would definitely fix the body right ,do a good modern engine and drive train and murder it out using the existing rims powder coated matt black! its also got the wrong seat ,should be higher i think its acually missing a subframe seat support!
