Taking My Bird to Work | Vlog

We're never as interested in the vlogs until we saw ligaya and now we love them and watch them for her!

I've worked with birds for years. I raised my Catalina macaw, who is eight now, and was younger than your African grey when I first started feeding him (4 feedings, one in the middle of the night). But those large plastic beads are fine. She still play with them and then drop em when she gets bored. Birds, parrots, are very intelligent and as long as they are fed properly they understand that these objects are not edible. But they do enjoy the different textures of plastics, ropes, woods, metals, all that good stuff. She will be strong enough to eventually break the ringer off her bells if she so chooses for instance and once again even those little pieces are not a hazard for her as long as you don't forcefully try to take it from her. Those are where most accidents happen when parrots swallow something they're not supposed to. It's because they're trying to keep it away from whoever is trying to take it from their mouths and slip up and accidentally swallow it. Let her get bored of the items and she will just drop them.

Loving the Ligaya vlogs all the way here in Scotland. Just wanted to give you a helpful cleaning tip for her cage. If you can get puppy training toilet pads where you are. Put one inside the pull out tray underneath the bottom bars. It will make it easier for cleaning and when she's freeflying when she's older. She will recognize the pad as where she needs to go toilet.

It's so interesting watching your parrot slowly but surely growing up

I’ve raised all kinds of parrots and birds. There’s not a store around for decades that doesn’t have tons of toys with beads on them. But if your worried try some soda bottle caps in different colors. She can flip them around and play. Put water in one. Freeze one lol fill one with food. Or alone. They love them.

It is a choking hazard my green cheek conure is always trying to eat the beads! From his own toy!

having a parrot perch on ones shoulder is somewhat of a childhood fantasy of ... everybody I guess xD

(Long comment sorry, but do read the whole thing.) Technically speaking beads r a choking hazard, however, bird tend to know (that or have no desire) to swallow them. They just wanna play with it, hold it, brake it, but not eat it. My green cheek conure (the one I tweeted u a pic of a couple days back) has bead toys and has never had a problem. MARLENE MC'COHEN is a bird youtube (check her out if u want, but I do recommend it for more bird knowledge) and her birds play with beads with out a problem. She also has a fb group for parrot lovers and everyone there lets their birds play with beads no problem. Id be more worried about anything toys it can get its head in, but not back out. If ur really worried seeing as she is still a baby and still learning u can always give the toy to her when she is a bit other. Let me add that my green cheek conure broke one of my earrings once, I didnt notice right away, but once I did I was freaking out worried she ate it. Turns out she just held it and played with it in her beak for a bit then dropped it when she was done with it. And the peace was small enough she could have ate it had she wanted to. All this said I do have to add one thing, but I dont want to freak u out. I have heard horror stories for just about every parrot toy out there. Parrot toys r supposed to be safe for bird, but almost every toy out that has a lest one horror story of a bird getting hurt or dying or almost getting hurt bc of the toy. The thing is it happens, however, its like a 1 in a million chance, but it does happen. The thing I hear most often is bird getting their head stuck in something that was big enough for them to squeeze their heads into, but cant get back out #lobstertrap. Best u can do it hope one of her toys is not that 1 in a million, make sure none of her toys have anything that she can just fit her head in risking she gets stuck, and (I do this) cut anything of the toys u know to be a higher risk (modify the toy). In the short with bird everything is a risk and does happen, but highly unlikely. Its normal to worry about them, I worry about mine all the time. She is probably fine with the beads as they r one of the things I have heard the fewest problems with. If ur really worried take the toy out till she is a bit older and has learned a bit more. Remember parrots r really smart.

When she's on your shoulder your expression reminds me of my huge boy pigeon Condor lol! He was a dreadful face and hand wrestler lol, though it's not so scary like a parrot beak. There's definitely been some birds I've trusted against my face, they do touch you with their beak and tongue and explore, but it helps to, if they get rough, immediately and simply move them away from the shoulder, it's a treat to be trusted up there, they gotta earn it! If it works out (no shame if it's just not for you) it can be very special getting cheek snuggles and kisses and giving in return to a happy confident bird

Now you need to teach her how to drive ❤️❤️🕊🕊🚗🚗

I watched few videos of Marlene Mc'Cohen's Channel and she has tons of plastic beads similar to Ligaya's toy and her birds just play with it. I remember her African Grey Cody plays with it all the time.

It's so convenient to bring a pet along without holding it. Ligaya now perches on your shoulder Mikey. She looks so cute when she makes a sound, looks like she's really talking to you.

I can’t wait to watch her learn things. I’m so glad I went past the ant farms Lolol I love the ant farms tremendously but this is also a great time! Don’t change a thing!

Mikey...we have an 18 years old Umbrella cockatoo and we do not allow our fur baby to have any kind of toys that he could swallow. It's just like a baby...a parent would not allow their baby to play with harmful toys, right? You have good instincts, follow your good thoughts.

Hi Joey. I am an Ants Canada fan. I have been watching you for quite some time. One day I took a peek at one of your more recent vlogs and was hooked. I am absolutely loving them! I love how everything you do before Ligaya and after are real. Like you are being yourself. You are a good hearted wonderful young man and a great role model. You even eat on camera which a lot of people wont do, I think it's great. Thank you for the day to day vlogs with Ligaya, I do not want the responsibility of a bird but have always been interested in them, watching her grow is so satisfying. I am more of a reptile lover :). Thank you for all your trip vids, I have a lot of watching to do, and now I really really want to go to Bangkok!!!

You have not done an eating vlog since we got Ligaya. I was totally expecting you to show whatever food they were serving during the meeting and wherever you ate after the meeting.

My African greys have not eaten any beads from their toys. They do seem to realise what they can and can’t eat.

I think I'm going crazy for not watching the vlog. I have to go outside our ladies dorm just to make "sagap" a strong internet connection.. 😭😭😭

I've had a couple parrots, and neither of them ever tried to eat the beads. Marlene McCohen has a bunch of parrots of all different sizes and temperaments, and she's had birds all her life, maybe message her? She has a youtube channel. In the end, it does come down to whether or not you're comfortable with Legaya having the bead portion in her cage. I'd suggest that she only have beads supervised just to be sure, but they can be good for enrichment.

I worked for some years in a shop for parrots and i never heard that a parrot ate a whole hard plastic bead (what doesn't mean it never happens) I think the bells could be more dangerous. People told me several times that the big parrots like to bite the littli plate out, and it can cut the inside of the beak and even get stuck into the beak. You should check if the plates in the bells are closed or closed ;) (sry for bad english :P) You both are awesome, looks like Ligaya is a soulmate pet

Watching when she was on your shoulder and nibbling I was like wait till she goes for the ears 😀 sure enough she did. Mikey do you plan on clipping her wings? She's growing so fast,not a baby anymore.

It really depends on how big the bead is and if the parrot can Swallow it a parrots neck isn't exactly big feathers make their neck look alot bigger than it is I would say use your best judgment if you don't feel comfortable with her having I'd say dont let her have it, just a fair warning if she can swallow it can really damage their digestive system, sorry dont mean to scare you, this bird really could not have found a better owner I wish you the best

Beads are not a choking hazard! I suggest you go and watch Marlene Mc’cohen and her videos on parrot toys!!!
