Really glad you showed off taking a small animal to a vet. So many people seem to have misconceptions about it. Recently 3/6 of my mice ended up getting a URI and I've spent over £100 at the vets trying to get them better. The amount of people who've told me "but they're just mice" is ridiculous. We as pet owners have a responsibility to do all we can to care for the animals we own. Just because they're small doesn't mean they don't suffer. Thank you for filming this for us.

My guinea pig had demodex a couple of years ago. He was just my first guinea pig and still a little baby, I was so concerned about his itching and bald spots. It was the first time I had needed to take one of my small pets to the vet. He got ivermectin once a week for 3 weeks, just like Gerg, but my piggy got it in an injection. it was heartbreaking to hear him yelp from the shot but I was so glad when he healed up quickly and he has had no issues with his health since then.

I took my Syrian to the vet since she was holding her head weird. I paid 50$ which is awesome. The doctors were surprised I brought her in since not many people bother. They enjoyed the experience of working on her. She turned out just fine. I hope your hammy does good too.

I'm trying to imagine taking my Robo to the vet. I'd be lucky to get him out of his enclosure scott-free, let alone being at a vet trying to administer medications or even keep him still.

I had that with Willy. The vet didnt see mites but she treated him with Ivermectin anyway. She said no more aspen either. She said she didnt care because it was still wood. So, I just use paper bedding all the time now. Willy was fine after a few days and his fur grew back rather quickly. Good luck to little Gerg!

My Syrian hamster had the same type of mites but his got wayyyy worst. He lost a lot of his hair and I would have to give him oral and topical medication. I would have to clean him with some type of wet naps twice a day and oral medication once a day. He recovered and later die of old age. He was such a good boy and he was really handsome.

It is really lovely to see that you took your hamster to the vet. Unfortunately, a lot of people think that because they are very small and don't live that long, there is no point taking them to get treated.

Gerg is a super cute ham. Was very anxious bringing my guinea piggy to the vet. Luckily she liked the taste of the medicine also! Best of luck in recovery! ❤️

I took my syrian hamster to the vets yesterday with the same problem! Shhe found it stressful, especially as I now have to clean her enclosure everyday, but she definitely appreciates the sunflower seeds I've been giving her 😅 The vet said it may be due to the population increase of mites and other parasites, so I'm keeping my windows closed with air conditioning so it doesnt get too warm and cleaning daily so that she can get rid of them as quick as possible

Thank you for making this video! I rescued a male Russian from a craigslist add about a month ago now, he’s been itching the entire time I’ve had him. He was housed with a female Robo (don’t even get me started) and she has never been itchy so I’m still confused as to why she seems normal and he’s itching all the time. I have 2 more Russians and another Robo plus a dozen gerbils all in the same room together. I haven’t noticed anybody else scratching so hopefully it is just him but I showed this to my mom and we’re finally going to call the vet in the morning to try and get him medicine now🙏🏻 good luck with Gerg, and I’m sure my Reeses will appreciate you!

Im glad that he will be getting better. I had mites on gerbils and did witch hazel and mouth wash baths that got rid of them.

I also just sent my hamster to the vet and the vet suspected it's because of the mites as well, the vet gave me a spray to spray on my hamster twice per week, let's hope the best for our hamsters' recovery 😊

mite suck my hamsters had mites the vet gave an oral stuff for them as well i just had to give it to each of them once time though and in about a week the mites were gone i had to put them in smaller cages temp for this since i also changed their bedding every other day

Aww, Gerg! Nutmeg & I hope you start feeling better really soon! 💚 Actually, I just had to take my hamster, Nutmeg, to the vet for the first time... And then again for the second time a few days later. I'm cautiously optimistic that she is going to be ok, but she is just 2 years old. Things that I didn't do that would have made the whole process easier: 1. Call around to the local vets to see if they can see hamsters. They may see them even if they don't advertise it. If you can develop a relationship with them before there's a problem, it will be much easier to get your tiny friend seen right away. We were actually turned away by the first vet we went to because they had so many emergency appointments already that day. 2. My Nutmeg was making weird noises, but it wasn't until the 2nd vet trip that it occurred to me that I should try to record the noises on my phone. If your hamster is making weird noises, it needs to go to the vet and it will be nearly impossible to describe the sounds. When you get to the vet, your hamster will be in survival mode and most likely not making the weird noises. Audio, or video with audio will help give the vet a better idea of what is going on. Being prepared ahead of time will make things much easier when you are worried about your tiny friend!

I hope he gets to feeling better soon. I know ivermectin is some powerful stuff when it comes to mites. I don't have a hamster at the moment, but I do have two mice a neutered male and an intact female. My handraised neutered boy Atticus recently had to go to the vet because of two lumps in his colon. He has hernias that were caused during the accident that left him neutered. Vet said there's not much that can be done about it because he is too high risk for surgery and as long as they do not harden he should be able to live a normal lifespan.

How much did his trip to the vet cost. Or how much do usual trips to the vet for a hamster cost?

I bought aspen once and then never again. My hamster was scratching like crazy and I knew it was the aspen because it was the only new thing. Went back to paper bedding only and he has never itched again. He was allergic to the wood shaving.

My gerbils ear was bleeding 2 times in a week and we got him some dog mite medicine and it actually worked.

It’s not ring worm or mites is it? One of my mice was itching a lot and had bald patches, so I bought an anti-mite solution which I gave her daily and her hair grew back after 2 weeks.

ok so my sisters hamster has barely any hair on his bottom it hasn't showed up until we noticed when I got my hamster it could have already been here but I'm unsure.
